Early footage of XL722.

Yes. Here's another lovely view of XT770. It seems that even the 'barges' weren't immune from dents in the nose filter! The Yeovilton SAR Wessex is shown as 'Heron Flight' with no mention of a parent Squadron. I will look into this unless somebody has the knowledge. Using that as an excuse.......

Not in the slightest, after all the whole purpose of the thread was as a one stop place for Wessex variants and colour schemes. I had forgotten about Hermes in her commando role so to make up for that here's another nice photo

Hello and welcome Kristjan. Excellent models you show there.

Hello and welcome Lorenzo. Quite a few of in here never healed either (some of us got worse!)

I don't know if this is an HAS1 or 3. Sad photo but nice underside detail. I hadn't realised how much the sonar well stuck out.

Sikorsky designed this type of flotation gear for the S-58 as shown here. It was tested on the Wessex and not surprisingly was not adopted for service use.

A good read and several photos of Australian Wessex in here: https://www.faaaa.asn.au/heritage-wessex/

Ask all your Sea Fury questions here
huvut76g7gbbui7 replied to NAVY870's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Certainly are, like this for example: Wonder why they didn't paint out the 'WE' part of the serial on the replacement wing? -
XS482/D of 845. Note Canadian zap on fin on starboard side. The repainted panels (?) on the starboard side make it look as if it has two big windows with curtains there.

Ask all your Sea Fury questions here
huvut76g7gbbui7 replied to NAVY870's topic in Aircraft Cold War
I would say that you are correct. Looking through several books on Sea Fury does show a mixture of styles eg WX655/152BR of 1833 NAS has rounded style on the fuselage for all markings and underwing serials are squared off style. WZ631/101J of 811 is the same. WJ632/155 OF 802 is the opposite with rounded underwing and rear fuselage serials and squared codes. TF991/102C of 802 has yet another variation.Squared off underwing, rounded stencil style fuselage serial and 102C twice the thickness of the other markings. Hope this helps. -
Here's a couple of SAR ones without 'CU' on the tail. Did Portland ever have a green Wessex with rescue titles or am I getting confused with a Sea King 4 ?

Your cockpit looks a bit better than this one in Quarrywood scrapyard, near Elgin, where many Sea Balliols ended up. A paradise for a keen spotter in the late sixties, just wish I had had the money to buy at least one of the airframes before they were broken up.

Flying a council house from the upstairs loo
huvut76g7gbbui7 replied to Tramatoa's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Yes. Great wind up at Connel (before it became a proper airfield with bowsers etc) and Fort William (Corpach) was to have the new guy (that would be me then!) use a hand pump for the first drum and when they were totally knackered the regulars would plug in the electric pump. Only once had to bin a barrel because of water contamination so the wee shelters obviously worked well. I think the dumps were stopped when the Sea King came along as it had a better range so they became redundant. Regarding the white outlined IFF aerial. Probably an added aid to avoid scalping but I do wonder if anybody ever tried to open it for the fuel. -
Possibly USN. Annoyingly, pinterest, where the above photo is,does not allow you to read the caption without joining.

A little known user of the Wessex was Bangladesh which received two ex Royal Navy Hu5s in 1973 (XT452 and XT478) Photographs of them are very rare and this is the only one I have found so far. Another user was Iraq. Their Mk52 was similar to the HU.5. They got 12 (WA227 /Iraq 588 to WA238/Iraq 599)

These come with a couple of questions for our Fleet Air Arm and 'Junglie' brethern. Is the piece of kit shown with the HAS3 a starter unit similar to a Palouste? In this painting are the red code letters artistic licence or were there Wessex with red code letters?

Here's XT770 and XT772 in 'Admiral's Barge' scheme. Note extra window in door of '772.

RAF blue-grey (BS633) Sovereign Hobbies have an excellent match and Hannants have Xtracolour X013 which I haven't used so can't comment. I'm sure there's more and it has been much debated here over the years.

Hello and welcome. Can't see your photo though.

We need new, good MiG-17...for conversion in this:

That's really different! It looks like it has escaped from the 'Forgotten Aircraft Designer' thread over on chat. -
