  1. Looking real nice, ph. Not far off completed now. The more I see of this the more I want to do my Tamiya 32nd one in that scheme. Maybe... one day... 🙂 Kev
  2. Don't dismiss the supplied paints, Shellie. Last year I built the 24th scale Hurricane using the paint and brushes supplied with the kit. Had to use some distilled water and Flow Aid to get the paint consistency right, but it turned out 'not too bad'. Hated doing the decals without solutions or Gloss and Matt coats but got there in the end. The object of the exercise was to build the kit using 'mainly' what was supplied in the box as an example of what could be done. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Butcher Bird. Kev
  3. Ok - I now have a vision of you strapped to the Great White Beast as it glides across the ceiling summoning your fellow modellers to join the madness! 🙂 Holy Moley - 2 Kilos!??! Time to dig out the Skyhook and some wire cable to hang that baby! 😉 Great work on getting the engine pod and intakes fitted and fared in. Kev
  4. Looking very nice indeed. Seems there are many of us with one of these lovely kits (myself included, thanks to fellow BM'er Colin). I shall follow along and learn more about this graceful beast. I picked up the CMK Engine resin at SMW once I'd got the kit from Colin and have since decided to add the CMK cockpit, the Eduard PE upgrade and TechMod's decals for Roland Beamont's mount. Also gonna add ICM's RAF Personnel to make it all into an engine maintenance diorama for a workmate. Kev
  5. Thanks Snowman. Here's the latest update. Got a week off work and am hoping to get this completed and to give it to my mate (who has a Cobra which is currently having its engine upgraded to a 4.6L from a 3.5L V8 - lucky guy!). Final body work finish is almost done - just got to polish it and then add the numberplates and finish fitting the brightwork. Here's how she looks right now: Looking forward to getting her done. Kev
  6. Awesome! The Great White Beast is being tamed one piece at a time. Looking fantastic, Loren. Having seen how good the tail underside looks with those vents open I shall HAVE to do that with my 'baby' XB-70. Spent some time at Telford yesterday, but it was really only a shopping and collection visit. Hardly looked at any of the display tables and had decided before I went that I wouldn't take any pics. Did see Airfix's latest 24th scale release - the Grumman Hellcat - but it holds absolutely no interest for me. Managed to get two of the four items on my shopping list but doubt if I'll go back there again on the first day as it was loud, tiresome and far too crowded to enjoy a browse. Possibly Sunday will be quieter so I shall try that next year. Fortunately the two items I failed to acquire are easy to get online at a sensible price. Some of the second hand kit prices in the show were appallingly high! Mind you, the HpH and Zoukei Mura stand had some pretty shocking numbers after the £ sign, too! 🙂 Hmmm.... a big Valkyrie, a big BUFF AND a big Seamaster? I've got it! You have a large glass fronted warehouse nearby your house and are working on making it into a 'scaled down' museum for your local community and surrounding area - that must be it... isn't it? 😉 Cheers Kev
  7. Sorry Neil, no thread on that one yet. When I get back to it I'll start a WIP, but that may be a while yet. Kev
  8. Okay Badder - it's about time you came clean with this! I think you have a Time Machine and that you're determined to build something that has 'evolved' over a couple of centuries into a scale working of a few months. Your processes of building, stripping back and re-building are so like every builder I've ever known that you MUST be watching them... somehow! 😉 Whatever it is you're doing, it's wonderful - keep doing it, please! Kev
  9. OMG! Your masochism has been TOTALLY confirmed! 😉 Wonderful work to re-engineer the under gondola. I'm in awe of your dedication to this great beast. Just say the word and I shall supply you with the PE scan in 48th and PDF printable format. Great solution for the intake floor, but a load of work (like I need to tell YOU that!??). More please. 🙂 Kev Getting heartily drunk for a Saturday night
  10. Lovely work. I really must get one of these. I recently did the "itsy-bitsy" 72nd scale version (OOB in Pakistan markings) and found it to be a wonderful little kit. Kev
  11. What he says ^ except I'd go for Tamiya's 32nd scale F-16CJ (lots of available wall space here). Love the originality of the whole idea and I can see it being replicated by many in future. Kev
  12. I can always scan my set when it arrives and send a re-scaled (1/48th) document to you - just trying to be helpful, you know.... and, of course, perpetuating the madness that is typified by our AMS. hee hee 😉 Even at 1/48th the Seamaster would be another 'beast'. I shall await that future chapter with anticipation. I shall resist... I must resist... oh-oh... Borg! Resistance might just be futile!!!! 😉 Hope to meet up with you at SMW when you do make it over to the UK. Cheers Kev
  13. Don't forget that this is a hobby and always a learning experience. I've been building non-stop for over 55 years now and still I'm rarely happy with the results 🙂 But I put that down to my imagination setting standards my eyes and hands cannot achieve! Fortunately, those that I build for are rarely displeased with the results. Curbing impatience is definitely a helping hand in producing better results. I still have to remind myself that 'one more pass with that sanding stick' won't take long and WILL produce a better end result. Looking forward to seeing the next set of results. The scheme is so stunning that it's eye candy whenever I see it! Cheers Kev
  14. And to add further impetus (if such a thing were needed) to my XB-70 build plans Hannants emailed me today to say they have these back in stock: It would have been rude NOT to order a set - so I did! 🙂 Kev
  15. Ahh... another Contrail vac to be "beaten into submission". I only hope (and it is a small hope, I admit) that your nacelles and fuselage are better than my 'currently languishing' Contrail 48th Tigercat vac. I was almost prompted to email Pratt & Whitney to ask if they ever made an OVAL rotary engine??? 😉 I wish you luck (though I suspect that your experience will over-ride that requirement) and shall watch and enjoy this 'piece of sheet' being transformed into a 'beautiful bird'. 🙂 Kev
  16. That should be easy, Loren. Book you and your significant other a fortnight that covers the SMW weekend. Hire a car for the fortnight (I trust she drives?) and book a hotel in Shrewsbury or Telford or the surrounding areas (but if you want Telford you will need to book at least a year in advance as the hotels there fill up for SMW very early indeed!). Then show her the results of a Google or TripAdvisor search of Shropshire Museums. Close to Telford you'll find the Ironbridge Museum and a Victorian Village and within easy reach is RAF Cosford's Museum and there are more in Shrewsbury. Plan 1 - arrive, settle in, tour the area until Saturday, get her to drop you at the International Centre while she goes off to Ironbridge or Shrewsbury, repeat on Sunday, enjoy the rest of the holiday in the area - see? Sorted! 🙂 Now all you need is a PILE of money and well-prepared credit cards - hee hee.... 😉 Ooohhh - I hope that's gonna be a 32nd scale Martin Seamaster (along with the Convair Sea Dart!). That should keep you busy for a decade or so.... 🙂 Kev
  17. Thanks XD, She's coming along nicely and looks as sleek as only a Hunter can 🙂 Kev
  18. Great work Steve. Got one of these in the stash but haven't looked at it (except for checking the flaps, as some of the early ones had bad sink marks but that seems to be sorted now). Will follow along and see if anything holds you up or causes perplexity. Kev
  19. Been working on this for some time, but not posted here with it. Several stalls later, I've returned to it this weekend having now gotten the body colour how I want it. Current state of play: Chassis and cabin are completed, just the bodywork needs to be finished. Done some detail painting today and it's now ready for decals (followed by final clear coat and polishing) and final construction. Had to try a dryfit before I got to work on it today... The chequered flag is looking nice and close 🙂 Thanks for looking Kev
  20. Hi folks Been a few weeks since I did anything with this, but this weekend has been happily productive. One of the kits that has benefited from my time is the FTS Hunter. She is now an albino... Hataka Red, White and LAG are at the ready for the next stage. Probably next weekend... Cheers Kev
  21. I'd like to say "Yeah!" but I just know you'll say "well... you can't!" 🙂 So that would inevitably bring us to a "middle" in you taking me seriously... I'm going to my room, with Vera! Kev
  22. Nicely done. I did the Moebius 10th scale one earlier this year which was a delight to build. Kev
  23. Mikey - I think that was me. I've just downloaded the pdfs and will have a look at these after Telford is done with. Thanks. Jayne: There was a gorram plan? 🙂 Kev
  24. Glad to hear you've found the solution, even if it leaves us none the wiser. The curse of computing, I'm afraid, is that we often forget that these damn things are nothing more than very quick calculators who understand only Yes and No but can make these decisions VERY fast indeed (upwards of Three Thousand Million times a second in the case of my machine). One randomly misunderstood decision anywhere and anytime can produce seriously unpredictable results. 🙂 Isn't it a shame that, in most respects, these things are really so damn useful? 😉 I shall get a small pile of virtual stones ready to throw at your new windows, just to enhance the realism of the look. hee hee hee... 😄 Kev
  25. Hey Mike - if Caz is finding Ubuntu a bit of a task, you could try Linux Mint (currently at version 19). I'm running that on my two other PCs and it's a real doddle and very Windows-like. LM18 was good, 18.2 was better and 19 looks to have sorted out quite a few problems. It's Ubuntu based so won't be too unfamiliar. I'd recommend using the Cinnamon version, which is the most Windows-like. It does (like most Linux/Unix installs) require effort to get it all up and running, but once running it's uncannily like Windows (even the keystrokes seem to work effortlessly). The only 'struggles' it has given me is with multiple monitor setups (I use 3 normally) and the sound card (Linux does NOT like Creative cards - which is a shame, cos I DO like them 🙂 ) Cheers Kev
