  1. I think its pretty much impossible to get a smaller actively produced jet in the 1/72 scale. Sure my little Mig-15s are bigger!
  2. Hey, if you were after a big airliner, there is always the Bristol Brabazon in 1/72 https://www.emodels.co.uk/a-model-1-72-bristol-brabazon-02872-plastic-model-kit.html Bit pricey for my tastes though 🤯
  3. Ditto on the images not showing - i want to see that escape capsule!
  4. Hi All, Ive just started watching this show earlier in the week, and im Hooked. Alternative History version of the Space Race? COUNT ME IN! Looking forwards to seeing what adjusted, improvised, and alternative concepts that they throw up over the course of the series, as well as USSR systems using the N-1. Trailer for those who havent heard of it below! - A few friends have said it hasnt fared so well with the critics, but from what ive watched so far, im happy with it! Interested to know what you lot think! Oli
  5. What a machine that would have been to see! Deep, deep in the darkest corners of the loft is an old part completed B-36 kit i got from a neighbor who just lost interest in completing.... but this would be too daunting of a project for me (think you'd need to scratch-build the whole fuselage!, and i can barely get round to finishing an OTB single engined ww2 plane at the moment!) but doesn't it look amazing in flight! - would it be something like this? a couple of examples, but the interior looks.....spacious..... to say the least!
  6. Looking good! (and the photo links seem to be working for me) Ive noticed that a good way of taking photos of model kits without getting 'overflash' is to take a photo in HDR mode (if your camera-phone supports it) - this then takes a high, low and mid exposure photos, and blends them together. It sometimes overemphasies details and contrast, but can avoid the 'whiteout' flash tends to cause. Please excuse the terrible quality of this model and its paint finish, it has no places amongst the other examples on BM, just showing HDR on a flash taken photo!
  7. Absolutely masterful work! when you realise the size your working to, it makes those details even more impressive.
  8. Wow, ive never seen supports built up like that, its almost like 'thick curtains!' - i use Simplify3D and havent seen a similar option to generate support towers in a similar way.
  9. Incredible work Jake!! Fifth Element has always been a longstanding favorite film of mine, and your doing it some great justice with this replica. 10mm ally, all those turned metal parts - how heavy is this looking? Im thinking that even though its made from fiberglass and kit greebles, all those beefy innards will probably end up making it quite an 'accurate' weight!
  10. Ive been lucky enough to catch the first 2 episodes that are out in the wild - its actually not too bad at all! A fresh take and actually not a half darn bad go at that! Does anyone else find it extraordinarily coincidental that there is also ANOTHER War Of The Worlds tv show that also has released this month? Its a Fox Networks/StudioCanal 9 part series, but this time set in modern day central western Europe (france/germany). Yet to watch that but seems to be rated quite well on the review sites!
  11. Well now you've gone and done it - i know also know of the existence of it but that is a little too pricey for me!! Cheapest i could find was £85, shipped from USA, so will have to go on the 'keep a look out for' list for the time being! ~ Love these kind of books, i have a Frontiers Of Space book by Phillip Bono, and its full of lovely color illustrations of near and future space craft of the 60's, definitely some inspiration for a kit-bash or 2! - (and much more price friendly, i think used copies are less than £2 on Amazon)
  12. This looks great. did my eyes deceive me or did this trundle its way to IPMS Telford?
  13. Incredible work and a beautiful result! Were the 'feathers' on the wing tips and tail painted or a decal? What scale is the model - i dont know if i would have the patience for that rigging!! 🤪
  14. I hope this doesn't count as thread necromancy, but i too am a War Thunder Player! (same gaming handle as my forum username) The fact it is now cross platform between PS4, PC, and Xbox is great and open up the genre to lots who havent given flight sim/tank combat games a go. So, whats happened since the last post in this thread way back in 2015? Around then i think the game was limited to end of ww2, early Korean era. The game has progressed much further since. For the Ground side of things, MBTs like the T80U and M1A1 are present and Guided Missile vehicles are also in game, such as the BMP, Bradley, Warrior etc. In terms of aircraft, whereas previously the tech trees stopped before supersonic aircraft, we now have Mach 2 capable craft such as F4 Phantoms and Mig 21's, as well as a slew of earlier 'supersonics' such as the F-100D. There is a whole new Helicopter tech tree, which has Hueys, Cobras, Eurocopters, Mil 28s and more, and finally Navy has released, which currently allows play of small patrol boats up to Destroyer class vessels at this point. Guided Missiles, Radar, and spotting mechanics are also now included. There have been a number of additional Countries/Nations added to the game too. Originally it was just USA, Germany, USSR, Britan. In the past few years they have added Japanese, Italian, Chinese, French, and most recently Swedish nations into the lineup. The 3 significant differences in realism which have been mentioned before are one of the great things about the game and allows you to play 'how you like'. As i am sat working on the PC most of the day, i love being able to sit down on the sofa, grab the PS4 pad, and zone out for an hour. Arcade - everything flies around like a stunt RC plane or Hot Shots. There is no energy retention in terms of flight maneuvers, you have near infinite ammo, and cannot blackout/redout/tear off your wings in high G maneuvers. You can lock on to 'targeted' enemies and get a fire marker to accurately lead your cannons/guns. Tanks get a x2 Power/Weight ratio boost so drive around like the latest Fast & Furious movie. Very action orientated, little team-play. Games last 10-15 Mins. Realistic - much more realistic flight envelope to aircraft. Energy retention and proper fighter tactics are a necessity. Limited to the ammo your plane/tank would be equipped with. No locking onto enemy targets or lead indicators. Damage is much more damning to a vehicles maneuverability and you can pass out and tear off wings by pushing the plane outside its G-Limits. Much more team play orientated - Games last 15-30 Mins. Simulator - The most 'simulator' like mode of the game, available for both ground and air modes. exacting flight mechanics, with torque roll and trimming to consider. No external view and no additional GUI elements. Personally i rarely play this due to the fact you need a mad number of additional key bindings, and i play on PS4 with a pad. Very Team orientated, often people using Voice Chat extensively, as there is very little way to monitor or distinguish vehicles on the battlefield. Fundamentally the game is Free To Play and achieves positive revenue by allowing people to pay for either a Premium Account or Premium vehicles. Premium Accounts give you 200% research bonus and 150% earnings bonus per match, whilst Premium Vehicles tend to be examples of short run or experimental vehicles. In general this works well, as there is no significant 'advantage' for a premium player against a stock one (no Super Duper Premium Shells like other F2p games) There are more accurate or realistic games out there, but for the price (£0.00) and for the player-base (25-45,000 active players per day), i don't think much beats it! I was a long standing World Of Tanks, and World Of Warplanes player, but transitioned to War Thunder around 3 years ago and haven't looked back! I tend to find half an hour a day to play, and have probably paid in around £50 over the time i have played, for a couple of unique vehicles ( Ta-154, Dewotine 520, A-26C ) . Frequent competitions and events added into the game by the developers allow you to unlock special or unique planes and vehicles, which does add a bit of fun throughout the year. Look forwards to hopefully seeing a couple more forum members giving it a try, and perhaps we shall meet on the battlefield!
  15. I think this is what your looking for? Apologies if the wrong model. 1/48 Dora Wings Gee Bee Racer R-1
  16. Really nice build and color scheme. Ive wanted to do one of these in a natural metal finish for a while, but think your 'nasa' scheme works really well. After seeing the size comparisons you threw up, i took a quick look to see if i could find any Apollo Lunar Landers at 1/350 scale.........unfortunatley not as far as i can tell (although you can get the whole Saturn V stack at this scale) However, i did stumble across this - Shapeways 1/350 Von Braun Round The Moon Ship , which could be quite a nice companion to your lander, and under £30 is pretty good value for a 3d printed model! (although quite a bit smaller than the lander i think)
  17. Funny things going on with the image links on this build again, getting the no image logo again.
  18. Great work there, the rigging has often been whats deterred me from doing biplane models, but this looks to have come out really well, and im wishing i had picked up one for the stash when at the traders stands at Telford! 10/10 on the decal work and 'gap fix' too!
  19. Image was working first time i looked at the thread so perhaps @Icarus stuck in slightly incorrect image URL when he edited it?
  20. Thanks guys! looking forwards to contributing content and not stealthily eating up BritModeller bandwidth this year!
  21. ImgBox is also good and with a really easy to read Terms of Service (a first!) which pretty much seems to ensure you keep ownership/rights of an images uploaded (unlike Facebook, instagram etc) - handy with original artworks.
  22. Crikey, i think that ive only seen IL-2's in this kind of condition! any idea why this was allowed to get to such a 'rustic' appearance?
  23. A 1/48 Hustler is on the wish list for me......along with a display case suitably sized to accommodate! Will be looking forwards to the progress on this build. Always loved the way the ejector seats worked on these with the clamshell 'lifepod' style , and thought you could do quite the 'action shot' if one set up a diorama showing a supersonic crew ejection just seconds before a big Surface to Air S-25 missile makes contact......... but im letting my imagination run away here!
  24. Hi All, Ive been a long time lurker on this site, often frequenting for more than a decade! Between this website and Hyperscale, i always would find someone blowing my mind as to the level of detail achievable in scale models, and the level of dedication and exhaustive information gathering many members would commit to before even taking a part off the sprue! Last year a Ukrainian friend of mine who remembered i was into model kits as a kid brought back from his hometown a really old Italeri LA-5 in 1/72 and over a couple of weekends i really had a blast doing that. Went back to the parents house to find my stash of 1 or 2 kits in the loft was actually much bigger than i thought, filled the car boot, and so slowly i have been coming back to the hobby! My old airbrush was terminally corroded through, so i think that will be the next thing to buy on my list, as for now everything is going to be attacked with the hairy brush! Professionally i work with 3D Printers and i think, as have many others on here, that they really have the ability to reshape the model industry. Personally i think we will stay using injection molded kits for a fair while, but for the aftermarket scene, definitely can see these becoming de-facto route to manufacture. With Cosford only just down the road, im sure there are a number of bits you could 3d scan with a handheld scanner and make into very interesting aftermarket kit parts! Anyways, Look forwards to interacting on the forum, getting that modelling bug back into full swing, and possibly even a build log or two on the go! Cheers, Oli - Kushan_Farsight.
