Hello all,
I managed to find a photo of an RAN Firefly (either an AS.5 or a "borrowed" FR.5) crashed on the deck of the HMAS Sydney, probably during the Korean War. It has a low (bottom of the fuselage) colour demarcation (it's either EDSG or EDSG/Slate grey, I can't tell), with a sky/EDSG cowling with a "high" colour demarcation. It's wearing a fuselage number of "238". I can't tell if it's a Royal Navy aircraft that's been "borrowed" or an actual RAN machine. It also appears that the rudder may be a different colour, but again it's not clear enough to make a call. The spinner is not black, nor does it seem that it's EDSG, and the exhaust pipes seem to be round.
Does anyone have any idea about this aircraft? Or will I be able to make "educated" guesses?
I've checked the Australian War Memorial sight, and the ADF serial site without success- the only RAN Firefly I could find that definitely carried "238" was an AS.6 and therefore not it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Bill Watt
