Hello, this may help in relation to TO, loop and firewall scheme http://www.3squadron.org.au/subpages/Mustangs/3%20Sqn%20P-51K%20P1.htm Enjoy Bill

Hello all, Tamiya 1:32 Mustang with all of Roy Sutherland's extra bits and Xtradecal 3 Squadron RAAF decals. It fought all the way and I didn't help much by doing dumb things on more than one occasion. Anyway, feel free to comment- I know I have the wrong prop, the seat is a different green just because I wanted a little variation and I missed the "W" on the undercarriage doors, the macro lens is really really punishing, plus a whole heap of other "oops" moments. And cockpit shots from earlier in the build

Although it has taken forever, finally getting closer to finishing something- 1:32 Mustang in 3 Squadron RAAF markings. Has everything Barracudacals does jammed in there, plus a little tiny bit of scratch building. Sorry about the photo quality- mostly mobile phone

Hello all, Tamiya Mustang plus all of Roy's bits and pieces- the carpet monster has feasted on this build, and a sheer lack or coordination means I went through three or so sets of cockpit decals to get it complete. Then, to top it off, I didn't realise how dusty it was when I took the photos- I swear you can't see any fluff or dust in person. I had to scratch build the throttle arm (carpet monster), and decided to add the lights on the instrument coaming. Enjoy....

Thanks for the info- planning a what if around an A-10 N/AW- so accuracy isn't exactly the highest priority, but I do want it believable and with lots of bombs Bill Watt

Hello all, does anyone know of a source for BRU-57's now that SHULL seems to be gone? I need 4 for an A-10 project. Any help or sources will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Bill Watt

They certainly have- thank you very much Bill Watt

Hello all, looking at colour schemes for my soon to be commenced He-219 build. Have done a bit of research and appear to have found a photo of Wk Nr 310189 (one of the A-7s captured by the British) with what appears to be dark undersides. The photo is on page 61 of the AJ Press book (Aircraft Monograph 21). There is a definite dark demarcation at an angle down the front fuselage, and the spinner on the port engine is considerably lighter in tone. From what I have dug out so far, they began painting the bottoms of aircraft black in late 1944. Is it possible that they used a temporary distemper similar to what was used on night Jabo FW-190s earlier in the war? EDIT: just found a wider crop of the photo I was looking at- the colour demarcation on the front fuselage is shadow from the wing (late afternoon, I guess). Please ignore the first stupid question END EDIT Secondly, some internet sources have indicated that the aircraft was in fact an A-5 and had been modified to that standard from the prototype V11. Again, what I've dug out indicates that A-0 & the prototypes had Wk Nr in the 190 000 range, A-2s had Wk Nr in the 290 000-290 200 and 310 300 range, A-5s were in the 420 000 range, and A-7s 310 000-310 100. I'm completely confused- does anyone have any information as to which it actually is, rebuilt prototype to A-5 or a "genuine" A-7? Finally, does anyone know if Wk Nr 310189 was fitted with Schrage Musik? Thanks in advance Bill Watt

Hello all, does the Alley Cat tail replacement for the Eduard Tempest address the fuselage length issue with the kit? I am assuming it does, but just want to make sure Thanks in advance Bill Watt

Hello all, thanks for the information so far. I'll be using the 1:48 Paragon nacelles- I managed to acquire a set. The photo of DV170 I found appears to have type D roundels on the wings What does everyone else think? I'm certainly no expert on RAF markings. Given it's still got all 3 turrets, and it's possibly type D roundels (which means post 1947?), I would be thinking that they all kept their turrets during the war- it may be a bit of a long bow to draw, but why leave turrets on a post war engine testbed but remove them from aircraft on active service? Even if it's not type D roundels, why leave guns on a test bed aircraft? Especially if we are talking about late war with minimal Luftwaffe fighter threat over England. At this stage, the plan is to do F2-U with Carpet Sweeper, Monica and Boozer, 4-bladed props, shrouded exhausts, 3 turrets, a load of TI's, H2S and yellow stripes on the tail Again, any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated Bill Watt

Hello, chasing some information on B Mk VI's. I've worked out serial numbers, squadrons and a reasonable amount of information regarding their use. However, my library is not extensive, and I have located more photos of B Mk VI's with turrets than without. I am wondering if anyone knows where the information that they were used essentially as EW aircraft without nose or mid upper turrets comes from? I have a photo of DV170 with all turrets fitted around 1945, and the photo of ND673 (F2-V) that shows it without turrets and spinners was apparently taken in 1947 at a maintainance unit. Other photos show unknown B Mk VI's with turrets (and in some cases, three bladed props), so I'm just confused. I am planning on building one, at this stage it will probably by a 635 Squadron aircraft (either F2-Z or -U) and am thinking with turrets. F2-U was lost with seven crew- I was under the impression that the EW aircraft had additional crew. Any help will be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Bill Watt

Hello, Typhoon update- it has now had a wash added, and a few touch ups fixed, and flat coated. The spinner stayed red, although it was resprayed and the chipping done in a much more subtle fashion. Any comments appreciated

Hello, my Hasegawa Typhoon getting close to finished. I have added the Ultracast Tempest tailplanes, a four bladed prop, the exhausts and a seat. Other than the usual massive gap with the fuselage inserts all has gone mostly well, although I will never again use a liquid mask I just cause myself too many hassles. The spinner will recieve a respray, I'm not sure if it will stay red or end up Ocean Grey. Anyway, hope you enjoy

Thank you very much- looks like I've got my scheme Bill Watt

Hello all, I'm chasing details of any Ju-188 torpedo bomber in a "mirror wave" scheme- preferably squadron/aircraft codes and werk number. About to start the Dragon 1:48 kit and want a more "interesting" option than the two tone green splinter. Any help will be greatly appreciated (I am aware of a colour profile at on a Russian web site, but it's a "D" and I'm a little leery of accuracy) Thanks Bill Watt

Hello all, this is my Airfix 1:48 B I(8) so far- I've added wiring, scratch built a whole lot of cockpit fixtures and re-cast the nose section so I can paint all the extra bits. I cut away the kit floor, and made a new one with some plastic card. I've been working from a few photographs, so I know it's not a hundred percent right, but it will look better than the original Airfix one. Hopefully most of it will still be visible- I hate to think it'll be a case of "I know it's there"

Hello all, does anyone know what colour was used as a primer in Canberra cockpits? I'm about to start painting mine after adding some bits and pieces and most photos I've seen show them fairly beat up- one of the photos seems to show a reddish coloured primer and I was wondering if anyone knew for sure Thanks in advance Bill Watt
-
Hello all, just two questions- did the B I(8) use starter cartridges and if so, did stains similar to those seen on the later PR 9 (and other Hemp coloured ones) form on the fuselage sides? And number two, having looked at cockpit photos, was there actually a flat "floor" in the nose for bomb aiming position? Looking at photos from http://www.bywat.co.uk/wt346int.html, particularly of the bomb aiming position, it appears that there is no floor, and the "cushion" for the navigator to lie on is fitted directly to the curved framing/skin of the aircraft. I've already done some naughtiness to my 1:48 Airfix kit and wondering if I need to do more...... Any help will be greatly appreciated Bill Watt

Hello all, currently building the Airfix B.I (8)- is the cockpit floor meant to be level with the bottom of the crew hatch? Dry fitting mine it seems to be a long way above the bottom of the hatch- I think it's fouling on the locating pegs at the front of the fuselage pieces. Any suggestions of solutions apart from doing it with the hatch closed? Thanks in advance Bill Watt

Hello, Micro-mark do a home photo etching kit- all you have to source is the chemicals. Not sure how well it works, but it looks fairly flash Hope it helps Bill Watt

Hello, has anyone used the Heritage Aviation flap set yet? Just started on the Airfix Canberra and while I was going to leave it unmolested I just can't help myself. How do they look once they're in place? Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated Bill Watt

Hello all, been trying to find a photo of the gun pack bomb bay doors- when it's said that they "wrap around" the front of the gun pack, how did they wrap around? Do they follow the contour of the front of the gun pack and then to the edge of the bomb bay, or the cutout follow the sides of the gun pack? Does anyone know where I can find a clear photo or a set of drawings? Haven't had much luck via the 'net so far And the second one is, is the structure "carrying" the bombs in the bomb bay as depicted by Airfix simply shortened if the gun pack is fitted? Or is it completely different? Any help will be greatly appreciated Bill Watt
