  1. "Make it like it looks on the box art" probably. Or maybe it's the weight of the bombs
  2. Back then we were happy to get it together in two weekends as opposed to the single engine ones we did practically overnight Perfect seamlines were somewhat lower on the agenda those days. One tip on dealing with those on old kits: just focus on the ones that will be most visible (i.e. top) when on landing gear and work from there. Kudos for the paintwork, self-printed decals, scratchbuilding, and proper weighing as she's very likely to tailsit
  3. Can confirm, I use the same ratios mostly. Aqueous also works with X-20A as thinner. A thin misting coat first helps the next pass 'grip' better as well.
  4. Interesting Wonder if that also needs to be done for the Hobby2000 reboxings.
  5. Good work, and a great write-up - not to mention the subject matter I like these less-obvious choices,
  6. It's perfectly fine to grab another kit and put this one aside for a bit if it's becoming a bit of a chore We're doing this for fun, got to keep the fun bit in it. I've dug up an old Academy-minicraft A-10 to bide the time between the Spitfire GB straggler and the BoB Ju-87. Less detailed, and no loss if something goes a bit pear-shaped but its redeeming feature is you can return to the other builds with a different perspective
  7. Found the prop +1 Had another look at the paintjob on the wings -1 You can tell on the last pic there's a bit of spray pattern to see, so the delay caused by the lost prop may be beneficial. I plan on redoing the wings in the black base coat, and re-applying the Polished Aluminium but this time closer to avoid the paint drying too early. Another test-spray indicated that you can really spray wet with this stuff and it will level out very nicely. I might even forego the kit decals and use Draw-decal's fuselage set as they do have the transparent globe.
  8. Some say, it's very therapeutic. Some say, it's the devils' handiwork fit for punishment in purgatory. All we know is: I forgot to get a masking set.
  9. Oh well. Good to hear about the contents though, that means I've gathered the correct bits already. Awesome. I'll keep an eye out on the e-shop for them!
  10. Seats & details added Boxes behind the rollover bar in 66. Before putting the bottom & upper wings together, the landing light must be put in. I've added some silver & internal grey first - it's barely visible, but let's be honest, we know it's there and that's why we do it, right? Click-joining the wings. Don't forget to add the bottom window first: There are slight gaps even when pressed tightly, but nothing a swipe of TET and a bit of plastic putty can't fix. Going over all the seams with a bit of vallejo PP will take care of that.
  11. Not so much related to the engines but the specific circumstances (temperature & humidity) in the upper atmosphere layers. You can sometimes see contrails appear & disappear from the same jet at the same altitude as it travels through 'bands' of lower temps. The human eyes & brain are not particularly suited for long-range distance measurements That look at 24flightradar may have helped, aircraft usually keep horizontal and vertical separation as to not go wake-surfing.
  12. Good man sometimes you just have to take the plunge. A test mule (or two) is actually perfect for finding out the mixing balance, and how weather influences painting. Apart from testing, practicing, and matching colours of course
  13. Of course there is the Procopius workaround as well. Airbrushing the tires gives a nice(r) texture that I like. I still do the hubs mostly by hand though. To each their own I guess?
  14. Congratulations! I raise my glass to you in salute🍷.
  15. They're static discharge wicks. And yes, probably best to (re)attach them at the end
  16. That was my second buy when getting back into the hobby just after picking up a Blenheim Mk.IF at Duxford. She's a bit clunky indeed, but with some careful scraping, sanding and polishing cleans up ok. Just make sure the mating holes on the undercarriage are cleaned of paint, otherwise you might encounter that the grip isn't really that great. Mine's a bit splayed I see, need to fix that.
  17. *perks ears* Would it feature 'Babe' Learoyd's P4403 EA-M by any chance? Proto-Dambusters 49 Sqn. raid against the Dortmund-Ems canal, first Bomber Command VC, and all that... Ps: Would a re-release of the Tr.9 two-seat Spits be possible for 2021? IAC, Dutch or ML407, or even the Egyptian ones is fine.
  18. We could always argue the matter until we're blue in the face... Ok, ok, I'll stop now.
  19. Incidentally @Troy Smith : it might be a bit confusing the matter when you state that official colours are capitalised, and the first memo shown has duck egg capitalised
  20. without putting all our eggs in one basket.. Sky Type S could be colloquially called duck egg blue, but that doesn't mean all duck eggs (green or blueish) are Sky Type S.
  21. They said it was all a load of quack.
  22. There's also a difference in tire pressure in play, carrier based would be higher (you don't want the tire to run off the rim while doing a controlled crash). The second example is due to weather - rain tends to wreak havoc on l/edges on any sticky-outy-bits as wings and props. Lean running engines leave grey deposits of the additives in fuel. Long overwater flights?
  23. The one that is needed is a AZ74xx series. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/az-model-az7479-supermarine-spitfire-tr9--353487
