  1. Ah, but the box itself is a piece of art in it's own right -- Speaking of box art: Auction win - even with postage still less than retail price. And the inside of the box has an extra cover that looks very nice:
  2. If you build it OoB, yes. One could also see it as a canvas for the artist
  3. Or, if you want something less rubbery, vallejo plastic putty. Also cleans off with water.
  4. If it can handle those finicky measurements, can I blame reference you for wanting to add yet another gizmotool to the arsenal ?
  5. Interesting use of a 'beuteflugzeug', tbh.. I have to wonder if that wasn't just a wind-up story
  6. Oooh lovely, a P1127 Yup, the 3rd party addon that used to do that is no longer maintained by the developer, so Mike would need to go hunt for another one without breaking stuff
  7. If you want to get a primer on Matchbox kits, check http://matchboxkits.org/ . It does show box art as well
  8. A bit of progress alongside everyday work. All buttoned up, wings and tailfeathers stuck on and Vokes added. I did have to do some repair work because of a nasty ridge on the airfilter, but re-applied the fasteners with a punch set. Some more minor repairs are underway, and the canopy which forms part of the fuselage behind the tank will be fettled to fit & masked.
  9. Be advised though: I wouldn't take an 1939 recipe for scrubbing period lead paints (probably) as suitable for plastic model kits!
  10. I think that's typical of many earlier MPM/Special Hobby kits.
  11. Or, to keep it slightly in line with the forum subsection: I do have an old household almanac from 1939 somewhere mentioning lye soap. Good luck finding that somewhere today.
  12. Something non-military (well... somewhat) this time: Mitsubishi's Ki-15 second prototype as used on the Asahi Shimbun sponsored flight from Japan to London in 1937. Also a second Airfix Mk.XIVe Spit in civvies, to build the Edmonton one: Amy Johnson's Lockheed Vega: And some light reading material for reference: The book on the left contains all known aircraft & serials including the Hurricanes in ML-KNIL service, the Martin 139s, Curtiss Hawks, and more. Very thorough.
  13. Nice shots! Shows the different airframe mods very nicely as well - EWR kit, bumps & lumps on tails, and somewhere there's a periscope added! TBH: I have a Tamron G2 150/500 and combined with a crop sensor it's more like 800 @ max, but the lower range suffers. (and it's 2 feet long & weighs a good 4-5lb) So my 70-300 isn't going anywhere
  14. That sounds familiar But maybe there is help: if it's digital, the information regarding what settings and such are likely stored in EXIF in the file.
  15. They're very fiddly and thin indeed. The trick is to add a crossmember on the nacelle ceiling/floor just behind the small divots where they're supposed to go and drill out the inboard holes. The upper inboard wing parts are horizontal, and the gear should be perpendicular to that so drilling those holes also helps with the vertical alignment. As limited-run kits go, this one is perfectly manageable with love and attention. Just make sure you get one where the AZ models clear parts are in the box (SabreKits are now selling the last AZ released ones).
  16. We call that a monday morning lemon here
  17. Part of the Battle of Britain GB for this year: Valom's 1/72 HP Hampden B. Mk.I. On 12 August 1940 eleven Hampdens, six from No. 49 Squadron, five from No. 83 Squadron, were detailed to destroy the aqueduct carrying the canal over the river Ems, north of Münster. Flt Lt. Roderick Learoyd of 49 Squadron was detailed as pilot of Hampden P4403, "EA-M", and his crew comprised Pilot Officer John Lewis (Observer), Sergeant Walter Ellis (wireless operator-gunner) and Leading Aircraftman William Rich (ventral gunner). Of the other four Hampdens that made the attack that night, two were destroyed and two more were badly hit. Last in line, Flt Lt Learoyd was awarded the very first Victoria Cross for Bomber Command for taking his Hampden down to 150 feet and pushing through the hail of AA, sustaining hydraulic system damage, inoperable flaps, a wrecked undercarriage, and wing damage, before dropping his bombs and then nursing his aircraft back to England, where he circled his aircraft until daylight, as he felt it too risky to attempt a night landing. the WIP thread with the background information regarding this raid can be read here: Extras: AZ Models transparencies and mask set, Yahu instrument panel & lots of Evergreen strips Paints: Topsides Dark Earth Vallejo 71.323 and 71.029 (the old DE), Tamiya XF-81 Dark Green, Bottom Vallejo 71.057 Black & Tamiya XF-85 Tire Black (for the blueish tint) Interior: Vallejo 71.126 IDF/AF green Decals: Kit for generic markings. Codes, serial & nose art gifted from the Airfix Hampden by @PeterB Now, where does the Evergreen come in you wonder? Well, you can barely see it in the completed kit but...
  18. got one 3 in the stash There is a Groupbuild proposal called the Rising Sun floating around somewhere... all Pacific theatre stuff, japanese preferred. Lovely work on the engine & prop!
  19. On the Hampden I did for the BoB GB, I boxed off the landing light hole with thin plasticard, and added slices of transparent sprue (runner actually) as lights.
  20. Yay, another Valom 3D puzzle As long as you're prepared for a total lack of positive locator pins and such, and don't mind testfitting too much, it's great base material to make a very nice, rare subject matter model.
  21. I wouldn't be surprised if that is actually Chamois. Somewhere in the Heller GB there are a few threads with those interior colours (the Amiot 143 threads).
  22. The Sidewinders on the SHAR look to be the correct AIM-9L type..
  23. It's a freebie, and it says 2 kits for a tenner on the box, i'm not expecting Eduard quality here 1995 Pantera/ZTS/Master-slash-MisterCrauft kit. This'll be fun. Challenge accepted!
