  3. Hi David, Did some experimentation with UV resin and windows a while back. I think using packing tape with the glossy non sticky side as further explored by @billn53 gave the best result when pouring the resin from the inside of the fuselage halve onto the glossy smooth side of the packing tape. Probably cutting the tape just a little larger than the window and hold it tight against the outside of the fuselage with some regular tape. Hope it makes sense and is of help. I was also able to pop the windows out and further polish the resin after it had further dried/cured very hard after a while. The little top nose window of my b-17 is still UV resin and very clear still, but since it was small, the surface tension of the glue allowed the use of no backing. Think the method has potential, but I haven’t used it much since. See page 2 of this B-17 build with the window challenges. Rgds, Rob
  4. Hi, Reapplied all the lost detail on the nose. Scribed the panel lines, paying attention to drawings and looking at some close up images found on the IPMS NL website which has quite an abundance of F-100 walk arounds: https://ipms.nl/walkarounds/walkaround-jets/walkaround-f100-super-sabre The result so far: Furthermore I polished the entire model with a fine grit sanding sponge to remove the slightly rough primer surface. Think it is probably ready for the gloss black coat in preparation for the metallic coat. To be continued, Rgds, Rob
  5. Hi, Airbrushed the model with Modo grey Surfacer. All ok…….except the intake. The top had a boxer nose and the bottom a hollow chin: Really did not look very well and almost put the Sabre away. The seam near the windshield area was the least of my worries. However, to get rid of the bulge on top I simply took a straight rough sanding stik and forced it flat trying not to sand away the noticeable ridge on top of the nose/intake. More challenging was this hollow chin area at the bottom. Since I plan to paint the model all NMF, I decided to use regular CA, darkened with some gun-metal powder and layer it on using some accelerator to speed things up. Then started sanding away with quite coarse sanding sticks, trying to get the shape back. At this stage it is still a little porous due to the mixture and the use of accelerator, so follow up with a layer of very thin CA to seal the surface. Much happier with how it looks now: Will have to restore a lot of detail in this area I think this will have to do: The overall result thus far: That’s all, thanks for watching, Rgds, Rob
  6. Hi Ben, Just today I received Spencer Pollard’s “Monogram Century Series” book, describing amongst others the Monogram’s Super Sabre build. It looks like it indeed also has its challenges. https://thekitbox.org/2023/02/03/the-turn-of-the-century-2/ Even with the Trumpeter kit and my decision of placing the resin nose is not so straight forward and I will have to put a lot of detail back in the nose area. Wings are glued solidly together using normal and very thin CA, acting as the seam filler at the same time. Rgds, Rob

  8. Hi Serkan, indeed, I am already noticing that there are some challenges putting the sabre together. Hopefully it will work out ok. Thanks Martin, the replacement intake looks good shape wise, but does need a bit of work blending in properly with the fuselage. Thanks Ben, I have been studying the tails of the C&D’s. It looks like the Trumpeter tail is a little bit of a hybrid of the 2 versions. I am leaving it as it is. Did fill in the ribbed profile of the rudder in order for it to be smooth, but the ribs still slightly show through. Thanks for the warning though. Hi Bill, that looks quite the surgery. The result looks great.
  9. Hi, Encountered some difficulty fitting the the 2 fuselage halves together. The cockpit and/or trunking were a little too wide, so had to sand the sides down. After this was completed I tried to blend the resin intake in with the rest of the fuselage. Used a mix of CA and gun-metal powder as filler and wet sanded away. Will need to have a look after airbrushing some grey primer if it looks ok. Attaching the wings to the fuselage is also not so straight forward as the locating tabs are very short. It is difficult finding the right angle. Tried with a make shift jig, but that didn’t help and with a drawing next to me I eyeballed it as best I could. Same story for the elevators. No positive fit, short locating tabs and not assisting in any way in order to give some indication of the correct angle. To be continued, Rgds, Rob

  12. Hi, Not been too productive with regards to the Super Sabre, but managed to do the following: Still in doubt which pilot figure to use for this ca 1956 Sabre stationed at Soesterberg AFB. Think the first pilot with the visible visor (and Ray-Bans) is probably more appropriate: This second image might be late 50’s to mid 60’s? Had a look at below website for period USAF and US Navy helmets: http://www.salimbeti.com/aviation/helmets.htm As you may have noticed, I am not so good at painting figures, but from a distance I think they will suffice.   14. Never really considered building an F-35, but your build, especially in the non stealth depiction with the impressive weapons load out, shows a more interesting side to the aircraft. Great detailing on the weapon bay! Lovely paintwork overall too. Great model. Rgds, Rob

  19. Hi, Think I have decided on the green striped livery. This will likely enable me to finish the model in a NMF with some variation of different metal shades. The green striped Sabre from the Dutch Decal sheet shows the year 1956. If I were to go for the red-white-blue livery from 1959 then the aircraft would likely have been coated in Aluminium lacquer, since this was apparently applied around 1957 to prevent corrosion. Looking at below images, there appears to be a true NMF on these early Soesterberg Super Sabres: A little more difficult to spot on below images. Was also contemplating putting a pilot in the cockpit and had purchased the Aires F-100 C/D pilot figure (right). However, If I were to go for a Pilot around the 1956 area in accordance with the livery of the Dutch Decal sheet, I may also have to opt for a figure with an earlier stile flight-helmet. Therefore wonder if the pilot from JP productions (left) would be more appropriate: For the rest, I have been adjusting the intake trunk, which also has to be modified in order to connect with the AMS resin intake part: To be continued, Rob

  21. Hi, After spending many weeks on the Marauder I am looking for a reasonable straight forward build. Decided upon Trumpeters 1/48 Super Sabre. There is enough written about this kit, apparently the intake is too flat at the bottom and the Vertical stabiliser too large. To correct the intake I have the AMS resin replacement. The oversized tail fin doesn’t bother me too much, but may look into this. Apart from the resin intake I have some other extra’s, The Master’s pitot tube, resin ejection seat with pilot mounted and the Dutch Decal sheet. Although I may go for another decal option. Will see. Thought I would get the hard part out of the way first by cutting off the Trumpeter intake. I read on a forum that it is best to cut 4 mm away from the panel line and sand it back carefully to about 3 mm: Hence I marked this with 4 mm tape However, sanding back to 3 mm and the new intake didn’t fit and was still oversized at the new joint. Had to sand it back to the panel line in order for it to line up properly. Perhaps this method was devised for another make resin replacement nose. Think the shape does look better. It will still need to be blended in properly with filler etc and will loose some detail in the process which then will have to be restored, but for the rest I can concentrate on the cockpit, tailpipe and hopefully a relatively quick and easy build. The difference in intake with at the top Trumpeter and at the bottom the AMS resin replacement: Below the livery as included in the Dutch decal set from the 32nd FIS at Camp New Amsterdam at Soesterberg AFB The Netherlands.
