  1. Last before RFI (some weathering and flat coat to go...) Not perfect - but I love the lines of this aeroplane... Iain
  2. Slightly different lighting #experimenting: Iain
  3. Just masking for top colour over lunchtime - but getting there (and experimenting with lighting - improvements to be made): Iain
  4. Wow - that's impressive - a real Cold War Icon perfectly executed!! Iain
  5. Hunter still there - outside SHQ. Argosy - at one point there were two - early '80s? The last one was scrapped because it had become unsafe due to corrosion I believe. Top workshops were full of Gnats, JPs and Jags - all gone now. There is a Gnat up at the Trenchard Museum - next to the parade square. And there's an early Tornado on the parade square itself. There's also the new James McCudden Flight Heritage Centre. On the airfield we have some nice airworthy Chippies and Bulldogs in one of the hangars - a JP sat with it's gear up - and a JP fuselage used as a horse jump by the boundary hedge. Would you believe they flew in a few Vulcan airframes onto the grass runways? Iain
  6. Princess Mary's Hospital was closed in 1995 and remained derelict until 2007 when the buildings were demolished - new houses now Apprentices left in '93 and Halton has been primarily focused on recruit training ever since. Airfield is still in rude health - if a little waterlogged at times Iain
  7. Thanks for sharing those - I missed them come in (was a Flt Lt RAF VR(T) based out of Halton at the time) so really great to see the photos. Recognise the staish in 3rd to last image (but can't remember his name) - and civvie behind him gesturing is a chap by name of Barry Keen - chief photographer at the Bucks Herald at the time, and father of one of my cadets. I still fly from the airfield - will show these to some of my buddies down there. Also - not sure what the station museum has - they may be interested in these? Iain
  8. If fairly closed off to rear side (lack of ventilation) and you're concerned about fogging from the vapors you can apply the cyanoacrylate bit by bit (like tack welds) using a cocktail stick - or coat the inside face of the transparency with a smear of neat washing up liquid if you're able to rinse the inside afterwards. Hope that makes sense? Iain
  9. Yup - thin superglue so it runs into/around the joint - Krystal Clear is just a PVA and not hard enough to be sanded back. And needs to be sanded back within a day, or so - the cyanoacrylate gets harder with time in my experience! Hope that helps? Iain
  10. Having seen Dave's Lightnings 'in the flesh' I'd agree that a well made Trumpeter Lightning is still an impressive sight! As to my ramblings linked above - please don't let them put you off Darren!!! As to original Q - I'd close up fuselage first - then play with the back-end until the Aries set slides in (no double-entendres were harmed in the making of this post)... It's the Aries set that's correct in size and shape - not Trumpeter - and if you fair in the Trumpeter fuselage with the Aries jet pipes you'll be improving the look no-end. This bit of my project covers the back-end and Aries set. HTH Iain
  11. Hi Jerzy - have seen the Broplan one - but would really like to do one in 1:32... Iain
  12. Andym got it - I.A.R. 81C Just a quickie - and pretty small... Iain
  13. Building for one of the mags - so won't be a fully detailed build here - but can anyone tell me what it is? Iain
  14. Been blending in the intakes - Milliput and a fair amount of sanding: Iain
  15. Dielectric areas painted dark grey and masked up. Ready to spray the natural metal area at rear of fuselage ready for more masking: Iain
  16. Gorgeous photos Dennis - and useful AP scan John - this thread just gets better and better! Who's going to write the 'DH Hornet and how to model it' book? Iain
  17. Oh yes! From images I've seen of the HpH Sea Hornet it looks like they've re-tooled the windshield and the undercarriage bays - and possibly other things too... But as Oddball would say - "so many positive waves..." Iain
  18. The HpH kit is out in a lot of areas - many a repeat of what's being covered here so can only assume similar drawings used. There were so many things I, and others, found last year that I just put it away in the loft until I had enough info to begin - and this thread covers that beautifully Just been comparing with the Bentley plans I have - thought they were 1:32 but they appear to be 1:36 - need to check dims. Will start a thread on the HpH kit in next few days... Iain
  19. David - you absolute star! Was aware of the engine length differences after previous conversation with John - was trying to see where - and you've covered it off perfectly! So cowls are identical in lengths up to that point? Another piece of the puzzle. EDIT - would there be any interest in me firing up a parallel thread on the 1:32 HpH kit? Iain
  20. This is an absolutely brilliant - and extremely useful thread. Lots of photos already that I've never seen before! Off to dig out my HpH kit - which from memory of looking at it last year - shares a lot of these issues. Iain
  21. What a superb build so far - and brilliant to see input on details and stories of life on board - all helps bring it alive a little for this land-lubber! This is another kit I have lurking that I'd love to build at some point if I can summon up enough confidence - I can see this build is going to be a perfect reference. Thanks guys!! Iain
  22. Stunning! Superbly rendered - like it a lot Iain
