  1. It's not often I start a build with destruction, but this is the case here. Bow and Stern chaser ports opened. Decks for guns fitted. For the Bow and Stern chaser guns, I'll be using those guns that would have been on deck, but have been replaced with the 3D ones. I could use the 3D ones here, as I have enough, but its a waste of a finely detailed part, as you can only really see the barrel. Next, these ladders have got to go. They'll be replaced with PE Next under the knife, this entire centre section. Gone, plus a few other bits on the fore and aft decks. These will be replaced with PE. Jon
  2. Many thanks for this. The masts I have. I agree, the kit searchlights are definitely a bit lacking in detail. The boats ? I shall use the kit ones, I'm thinking canvas covers will cover a multitude of sins But even without covers, they should be ok with some careful painting. Jon
  3. You are me both, 1/700 is just too small for me. Jon
  4. Umm, that’s encouraging, I think ? But seriously, I’ll definitely have a look at what you suggest, boats and searchlights. I had already been wondering about the masts, the kit masts are very flimsy and metal will be better. Do you have a link to Model master ? Jon
  5. Fear not young Jeff. You’re right, the missing part is on another sprue, I think, this hull is used for another ship with a different configuration at the stern. But don’t quote me. Jon
  6. Back to my normal scale, 1/350, but with something a little different. Looking at the instructions, this ship is struggling to makes its mind up to be steam or sail, as the masts carry a lot of rigging. Oh well, what the heck. I got this from Peter Halls site Atlantic Models https://atlanticmodels.net/ in his stash clearance. Always worth a quick look folks. Anyway here are the parts, not a huge amount...... And once again, it's no spring chicken, not as old as my 'E' Boat..... Unlike the said 'E' boat, I'm going to add one or two extra parts. A wooden deck.... And one or two bits a brass..... And because the kit guns are so absolutely awful, I've paid a visit the MicroMaster https://micromaster.co.nz/ and got these. I will compare them to the kit guns later, but trust me they are dire. And as a first, I'm going to use these metal flags..... Right then, the first pre-build task is to cross reference the brass bits to the kit bits. Time for confusion. The first build task, is to figure out what to do with these ? I think they are supposed to be bow chaser.... And stern chaser.... I don't think I should just grind them off, I suppose I should try and make them a bit more realistic. Lord knows what Revell were thinking........
  7. They do look like RIBS, but I just think they are a poor rendition of these...... I think had I been doing a lot more correcting of this kit, I'd have tried to source more accurate life rafts. It's well known that this kit is not the most accurate, the DC's being a prime example, but they were as far as I was prepared to go with this build. Jon
  8. It has just occurred to me, I really should have added some retaining straps to the torpedoes. Jon
  9. Here you go, all done. I could have really gone to town on this kit and added more extra parts, but that was not my aim. I just wanted to build something a bit bigger than 1/350. As always my thanks to all of you who followed along. Special thanks to @Steve D for so very generously supplying the replacement Depth Charges. The kit supplied ones were SO BAD, that I was NOT going to use them, but these 3D printed ones from Steve make a huge difference. Jon
  10. This is an old (1975) kit from Airfix, which surprisingly, went together quite well. On the whole it was built 'out of the box', except for..... !/700 scale wooden deck planking, primarily on the band stand. Replaced the kit supplied DC's (which are appalling) with some 3D printed ones. I made the rails for the DC's from some right angle plastic. For these 3D Depth Charges I owe huge thanks to @Steve D who very kindly supplied them. They have made a huge difference to the appearance, thanks Steve. So, here are some piccys, which I hope you enjoy. Jon
  11. Those ready use holders were definitely worth the effort. Good job. Are you going to fill them ? Jon
  12. DC's done. The thread might be a bit over scale, but it works. Just need to fill the holes. Jon
  13. I thought I'd give the DC rails a go. Compared to a photo of the real thing, these are a bit too long, so I'll give them a trim before I glue them down. And fill the slots where the original ones should have gone. But with @Steve D 3D depth charges, I think they look much better than the Airfix offering.
  14. Railing stanchions on and I've added some thread between them. Mast next then the DC rails and finally, the rigging. Jon
  15. Been doing other things lately, so work has slowed a bit here, but I've added a few more bits. Paint will need touching up in places, but its coming on quite well. Jon
  16. As you know, I took Steve up on his more than kind offer, for DC's that are actually the right size. Here is what I've just received........ Even got the lifting eyes. As you can see, these are far and away more accurate than the Airfix offering. My VERY grateful thanks to Steve for his generosity. Jon
  17. Same as you, Infini Lycra, white for the signal halyards and black for the rest. The aerial was a bit of an experiment really. The hardest part was getting the tension right, but I did one side, let the glue dry and then the other. The hardest bit was getting the two outer threads to join equally. It took a while. Jon
  18. @javlin nice result. But I’m going to use what there is. Jon
  19. I seem to have jumped forward a bit, sorry to not post more photos. It appears the next stage will be fitting stanchions for the railings, or more correct, wires. Jon
  20. You might loose a bit on the folds, but that is easily touched up. Jon
  21. The tape stops excessive spread of the colour you use on the fittings, then use diluted deck paint to spread under the fittings. Jon
