  1. While I'm waiting for the 7th to come around, I thought I'd make the base, I don't think I'm jumping the gun as I'm not actually building the ship. So, I've cut a piece of 2x1 oak. And drilled the holes for the brass rod. Now the scary bit, for me anyway, drill the holes in the hull. Brass rod in place. Quick check and phew, it lines up. Coat of varnish and name plate applied. I've checked my paint stock and very surprisingly I have all the right colours. NARN22 will be on the hull and superstructure, NARN36 on the hull along with NARN42. Black C02 will be the boot topping and various bits and pieces, and NARN44 will probably go on there bridge deck. The paint instructions call for G10 for the deck which is NARN21, I'm not sure of this, as I have two other greys for deck paint NARN23 and NARN54 (if you read this Jamie I would value your comments @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies) Anyway, that's it for now. I'll go and sit on my hands until the 7th and try and try and get rid of this cold and cough that I seem to have caught from somewhere. Lastly @TonyOD I hope I've not broken the rules posting this babble. I hope you all had a good Christmas and have a splendid New Year. Happy New Year. Jon
  2. I did this one, but added lots of PE. Which I have to admit was, at times, a BIG mistake. I'm looking forward to watching this take shape, it is a good kit. Jon
  3. Thanks Tony. It did come out quite well, I used Atlantic Models PE set on it, but for some reason I didn’t use real chain. Must have had a ‘senior moment’. Jon
  4. Thin Tamiya quick drying is good, but I have found that if you tap off too glue from the brush, by the time to get the brush to the part, it has evaporated. Jon
  5. I’ve heard nothing yet. I’ve got Naiad on a couple of shop watch lists, hoping to convert it to HMS Hermione in memory of my wife’s uncle, who went down with her. Jon
  6. A Very Merry Christmas to you and your family. ’See’ you in ‘23 Jon
  7. @Hoppy Thanks for the link, lots of useful info on it. And interestingly they feature this very kit. Jon
  8. I hate those b#####y things, spend half the time figuring out how to turn them on, then trying to find the right language, then figuring out where they activate. Jon
  9. That’s somewhat embarrassing, you are very kind, I only hope I can do the model justice. Jon
  10. You’re a cruel, cruel man Bertie. However, I already have a plan,I’ll probably use 0.1mm wire. Although, I might get away with stretchy line, as the mast and yards are brass, so are a lot less flexible than plastic. Have a splendid Christmas, see you in ‘23. Jon
  11. At a loose end at the mo' so I thought I'd kick off with the box art and all the little bits and bobs, that will go to make this nice little ship. I thought it might make a change to a 'Flower'. That's about it, except I couldn't resist this close up, Bens 3D printing is superb. I'll start in January, meanwhile I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and an even better New Year. See you all in '23 Jon
  12. Thanks. I’ve decided what I’ll build, so you can add it to a list. Black Cat Models 1/350. HMAS Castlemaine Bathurst Class Corvette. I think I read somewhere the GB starts in January, which is good as I won’t be building until then. As you know, I’m new to this so have no idea what happens. Mainly, where do I post my WIP, how long does this GB last and lastly, do you want more than one build ? Jon
  13. Good to see you back, bit of a bummer about your water problem. That HMS Severn is very tempting, probably another one to add to next years ‘to buy’ list, which is definitely getting a bit out of control. Thanks for all the inspiration this past year. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, ‘see’ you in ‘23. Jon
  14. Can you add me to the list please ? Do you need to know what I’m planning on building ? Jon
  15. @Snafu35 what a fascinating story, thank you for sharing it. I do like to put a bit of personal history to my builds. Jon
  16. If I look at my completed builds, I can see that the quality has improved. That saying ‘practice makes perfect’ has a lot of truth, mine might not be perfect but they are certainly getting better. Jon
  17. Same here. I guess it’s the weather and time of year. My work room is certainly not as warm as it could be. Jon
  18. Looking very good. I’m constantly in awe of you chaps who produce ships in this scale. Jon
  19. What ? This weather ? The penguin is very apt. I do like your moulded hull. Jon
