  1. A painting day today. PE 3D parts The stern winch. And in place Forward anchor winch and chains. I think I'm done today, but tomorrow I can start to add parts to the deck, once they have dried off sufficiently. Jon
  2. They can be a pain, especially when you try to fit them in the wrong order, but that’s when the ship starts to come alive. Jon
  3. They are the best I’ve seen so far, very fine detail. As I said, the seats are actually proper seats, not just a moulded lump of plastic. I’ve said this before, but 3D printing is changing the level of detail on kits, by leaps and bounds. Jon
  4. With regards the imbalance of flying to floating, I think it is because aircraft kits are far more available. When I ‘came back’ to modelling, just before I retired, I started building armoured vehicles, but soon got bored as they were, to me, all much the same. So I went to aircraft, I did enjoy them, and there were so many to choose from. Then, I saw some ship builds on BM, and thought I’d try that. And the rest is as they say history. For me, ships have a soul, put half a dozen Corvettes in a line and although they look the same, they won’t, if you get what I mean ? Jon
  5. I've glazed the bridge windows, it does dry clear.......honest. The roof is now in place.Just a search light, railing and aerial to fit and its done. These bits will go on once the bridge is on the deck. The deck is now done, so the painting of the hull is now complete. The anchors. Not quite sure when I'll fit them as I don't want to risk breaking them. And finally, the two boats. The 3D printing is so good, that there is a void under the seats. So, there we go, now I've got to paint ALL the deck fittings prior to fitting them. Jon
  6. Difficult to say really. Are there usually this many participants ? I’ve stopped following the Group Chat, not because I don’t like to see all the comments, but because there are SO many comments, and it takes a good hour to read them all. I’ll still keep an eye on it, but hopefully my inbox won’t keep filling up. So I’ll only follow builds that I’m interested in, and that’s where the build list really comes into its own @TonyOD. It is certainly a very diverse subject, but also makes you realise that the majority of modellers make aircraft. But on the whole, it great fun. Jon
  7. As is often said ‘there’s a lot of it about’ get well some. Jon
  8. THAT is absolutely stunning, this has got to be your most realistic piece of weathering that you have done. This gets my vote for ship of the year, and it’s only January ! Whatever will you do next. Jon
  9. If I still had my oil paints, I would give a figure a go, but...... I don’t have any paints for this. Jon
  10. I can’t help with either of your boats, but IF the post office pull their finger out I can add this to the ‘to build’ list. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/icm-s018-kfk-kriegsfischkutter--1402669 It should have arrived today, but seeing a postie around here is a bit like spotting little green men. When it arrives I’ll let you know, but obviously I won’t be starting it until Castlemaine is done. Jon
  11. Be wary, Shipyard seem to do two versions of their ship. One comes with EVERYTHING you need, and is more expensive than the other version, where you need to buy extras. Such as masts, rigging, blocks etc. Jon
  12. @Bobby No Mac what glue are you using, for my ship I am using this https://deluxematerials.co.uk/products/roket-card-glue bit like a cross between PVA and CA. Jon
  13. But it’s what we do Jeff. I think it is worse for model aircraft builders. They spend hours detailing the internals of a cockpit, then plonk a canopy on and everything disappears. Jon
  14. These are all the bits to go into the wheelhouse/bridge. From the top. Seven speaking tubes and the wheel binnacle A repeater binnacle and four navigation (?) devices. On the right, the flag locker. You can't see these colours once the locker is in place, but........ As always, closeups do not look so good, but with the naked eye it's ok. Also, remember there is a roof to go on top, so most of this will not be visible.
  15. I have at the moment a card/paper build of HMS Alert by Shipyard Models, that I started and have been dipping in and out of every time I feel guilty about not getting on with it. Then when I do, I realise why I ‘don’t just get on with it’. The instructions are appalling, I hope yours are better. Looking at your photos, the paint pots are identical to the ones in my kit. It’s quite a think gloopy paint, but it works. I found if I thinned it it caused the card, in particular, to delaminate. Jon
  16. Back in the summer of ‘22 I visited St Nazaire and the sub pens. In one there is the submarine Espadon, which is open for visitors. Now I thought I knew how restrictive the inside of these vessels was. Well, I got that wrong, how submariners actually live like that for weeks on end, I’ll never fathom. Huge respect to them all. Jon
  17. I feel sort of obliged to read what people are saying, but to be honest it does take up a look of time. Something like 60 notifications this morning, so I’ve decided to only follow those that have tweaked my interest. Jon
  18. I built this a couple of years ago. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of detail, considering its size. Jon
  19. 1/700 ? I’ll have nightmares just watching YOU build this. Jon
  20. Learning another language, as well as building a boat. Bet you’ll have a whale of a time with this one. Ok, ok, I’ll get me coat. Jon
  21. I've often looked at and wondered about the S-100, so will follow along. As for the two Atlantic kits, I'm jealous. Jon
  22. I think I'm done for the day. I've painted the antifoul and mounted Castlemaine onto her base, which as you can see is well masked. I was going to mounted the ship on my build and paint block, but that would have meant more holes in the hull, and that was far too risky, so........ First colour of the camouflage. Which is also going to be the superstructure colour, this is the bridge. I've painted the interior vertical surfaces white and will be painting the floor NARN44 Corticene, then there are lots of tiny parts to fit, then the roof goes on. And a bit of PE railing around the head of the stairway. Talking of tiny parts, here is the wheel and binnacle.
