KFK Kriegsfischkutter (1/350 by ICM) - Finished

Thanks. I've not come across these craft before either, I think its an armed fishing boat, but it does look fun. A very simple kit, that with luck, I'll be able to add a bit of extra detail to. Nice thing is, it doesn't take up much room in my 'harbour' which is looking decidedly full. Jon Edit. I've just google translated Kriegsfischkutter and it comes out as 'War Fishing Trawler' so it's a bit like the RN armed trawlers. J -
Oh, I know THAT feeling, you are definitely doing the right thing and walking away. Good luck with the new build, what you've done so far looks excellent. Jon

This is to be my second build of this GB and such a tiny craft at that. Can you add it to my list please @TonyOD ? This is the one and ONLY sprue. I shall be mounting it on a seascape base, to represent this boat moored at a stone quay. Now, I've noticed that there is a lot of detail on the box art, that is not present on the actual model. So, where I can, I will add parts from my stock of extras, if I've got them. All will become apparent as I proceed. First, I've made the quay side. I found a site that is for railway modellers https://www.railwayscenics.com/index.php?ceid=97e50c587840907d5b6bfd37c99a6abc and they sell many types of paving and brick wall in paper form, the great thing is you can download and print them. And that is what I have used here, with some thin strips of balsa wood, with a coat of wood stain. I'll try and make some mooring bollards to moor there boat too. The surface of the water is drying and I'll show you when its dry. Now, onto the boat. So far, all I've done is join the hull halves and add the waterline piece. That's it for now. I'll be back tomorrow. Jon

No worries. I do like these little ships, very much unsung hero’s. I did ‘dum down’ the rigging, I feel to replicate the ACTUAL rigging becomes too much on a small model. Jon -
You and me both, I’m going to look at it and see what it says. Jon

You’re right of course, I should get on with Alert and it would be nice to see another card model, however I’m not hugely confident about doing it, I think I’ve let the crappy instructions get to me, let me have a ponder. Jon

I’ve not put them to much use, as yet, but they do seem very good. Jon

Greeting fellow Salty Sea Dogs, I hope you are all hale and hearty on this cold and frosty (in the UK) day. I have just finished my first build in this group, so I need you help. What next, I am undecided. So first choice is........................ Which I will build as it comes out of the box, as it is about 320mm long. Second is this, which as it is so small, it's only 67mm long, I'm sort of planning to mount on a seascape base, with the boat tied up to a dock/jetty. So, there we are I leave the decision up to you. Slowly but surely, the end is drawing closer. Main mast added and a bit of rigging. I think it should be done a dusted tomorrow, once the rest of the armament is added, as well as the boats.

Looking really very good. It's always a shame that SO much detail disappears. But we know it's there. Jon- 402 replies

Today, I've used, for the first time these excellent RN Draught Decals from Sovereign Hobbies, @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies they really do make a difference. And then on to the rear gun. Into position. Plus I've added the rear mast, the railing around the rear gun position and the two gun positions either side of the bridge.

I don’t know how the Royal Navy use or used flags. But the one on the right (stern ?) looks like the Union Flag The one at the mast head looks like the Flag Of St George or the flag of England Jon

Thank you. I don’t think I deserve such high praise, but I think I’m getting better. Jon

Those are the easy ones, being as they are straight when they come off the sprue. The hard ones are those with a series of bends, angles and those infuriating half circles, that go around gun positions. Tempers do get a bit fraught at times. Jon
