  1. Well, that's engine number one complete. Start number two tomorrow, pity to think that most of this detail will disappear under the cowling. The unpainted bits are so it will stick to the nacelle.
  2. Just a little, weird thing to do. I’d rather they had included weighted wheels. But what the heck. I just hope I can do the kit justice.
  3. Saw this kit and I just couldn't resist, bit expensive and it's going to be a challenge. But, thanks to this ******* virus, I'm not going anywhere. So here are my first photos of my first 2 hours work. So far the parts fit has been excellent, and the detail is amazing. See pistons below, and I have noticed that it is a soft plastic compared to Tamiya etc. Enjoy. Jon One engine sprue, below. Before you ask, yes those are pistons in the cylinders, they've even got piston rings. Which of course will disappear. The stand here, was included within the sprue. And there are splines on the propeller shaft.
  4. I’ve started the kit, built half an engine. Will post in WIP forum.
  5. As a complete change of tack, currently building a 1/48 SE-5a. I’ve decided to put it on hold and start something a bit bigger. So I’ve gone and got a 1/32 Henschel Hs 129 B-2/Rlll, by Zoukei-mura. So far, I’ve read the instructions and looked at the parts (there are a lot). And it looks to be a challenging, but rewarding build. Have any of you built this or any other Zoukei-mura kits ? Any tips will be most welcome. I might do a WIP Post just for fun. Jon.
  6. Welcome Viking. It’s a brilliant forum, with lots of friendly people with a vast range of knowledge. If your ever stuck, this is the place to come. Jon
  7. Cockpit fitted to bottom wing and fuselage sides fitted. Will start drilling holes in bottom and top wings, ready for rigging. Jon
  8. Started this build today. After building a Mosquito, this aircraft seems tiny. I usually use Eduard PE seat belts, but this kit doesn't come with them, so I used the supplied decals instead. Not a bad result. So far, the parts fit has been good, with only a minor bit of work to improve the fit.
  9. Welcome, JRK. There is a wealth of knowledge in this forum, you will get most of your questions answered. I’m no expert, but if I can help, just ask. Jon.

    Hello

Good morning. I built this one a couple of months ago, nice kit.https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/35346/index.htm
  11. Welcome. You are in the right place for advice and help.
  12. I didn’t realise it would take SO much black paint. It did have one advantage, I didn’t have to apply all the small decals. I was going to, and started, but as they are all black lettering, they just disappeared. I expect the purists will have me burned at the stake, for this omission. BWTF.
  13. All done. It took a lot of matt black paint to get a reasonable finish, finished with a quick over spray of Humbrol Satin Clear Varnish, I try not to be too perfect. I used Eduard PE fro the detail in the cockpit, which, as always mostly disappeared. It was a fun build, and I hope you enjoy looking at them. Not sure what I'll do next, maybe a 1/48 Eduard SE 5a. Depends if I feel brave enough to tackle rigging. Enjoy and stay safe everyone. Jon.
  14. Finished. More photos in 'Ready for Inspection' Hope you enjoy them, and thanks for looking. Jon
  15. I've started this, then got side tracked by my Mosquito. I really must get back to it, I also have the PE rigging and was wondering what it would be like, as I've only used EZ Line to rig a bi-plane. Sounds like it'll be fun(?).
  16. That was a lot of matt black paint. It's very black, next step will be to gloss it over and start applying the decals. Jon
  17. Thanks. I hate having my photo taken, but as this a time of complete strangeness............
  18. It did cross my mind, that if I sprayed it satin, I might not have to give it a gloss coat, prior decals. I might try on a bit of scrap and see what the result is.
  19. Masked up, ready for primer. Primed and ready to paint. Question is, do I paint it matt black, or as some sources say semi matt ? As some of these night fighters were. I think matt, then I can finish it with a semi matt varnish if needs be.
  20. Wings on, although the fit wasn't as good on some other Tamiya aircraft. But nothing a bit of filler won't put right. Jon Now, this little window was a real pain. It didn't fit too well, so needed a bit of sanding and of course every time I trial fitted it, it fell inside. And of course, the only way out, was the way in. Bit like getting coins out of a piggy bank. Jon
