  1. So says you, what I see is a work of art. Those guns !!! Watching this build take shape, is an honour. Jon
  2. Forward and aft guns mounted, ignore all the black threads, I find it easier to add the rigging to the deck mounts before the masts go on. I've made a start on the boat davits, adding the PE detail to the plastic part. This build seems to be getting smaller, but I think it's well worth adding all this PE, although it does limit how much I can do at a time. Jon
  3. Had a bit of a rest from this, but I've added the wheel and ladders. And the supports for the ships boats. And the midships gun.
  4. That use of flattened dental floss is very good, it does give the impression of flat straps. Jon
  5. There’s a point when the building doesn’t seem to show results. Its bad enough with 1/350, even worse with 1/700. Jon
  6. Sorry Beefy, but I honestly can’t remember, and my WIP isn’t much use. This was from when I had just ‘found’ ship building, so my information was a bit lacking. Jon
  7. That's the railings done. I think I'll add the ships boats next, or at least the davits etc, however I need to figure out where the rigging is going to attach to the deck, so it doesn't foul the boats. Jon
  8. I have looked Swordfish parts, but as you say the postage is a bit high. Interesting to se them though. Jon
  9. Ah, the eternal cry. After assembling many PE parts AND kits, I’ve come to the conclusion that, those who write the instructions DO NOT use them to assemble the parts. Jon
  10. When I get to the argh point, I usually leave well alone, and resort to mayhem on my PS4. Jon
  11. I’m coming to the end of the ‘steam’ era part of this, and fast approaching the ‘sail’ era. In other words, the masts, which I’ve been sort of looking forward to, as I’m going to make them from brass, as the plastic ones are very flimsy and won’t take too kindly to being rigged. And talking of rigging, THAT is going to be a challenge, one of my least practiced part of shipbuilding. Jon
  12. Thanks Jeff. The bridge structure has been a challenge, just don’t look too closely at it. It should improve, once the railings are on. Jon
  13. Wood applied, it looks a bit uneven, but can't go to the edge as there is a railing to fit, which hopefully will cover the brass and hide the wood edge. Anyway here 'tis And as you can see above, the funnels are mounted and rigged. All power to Bobs Buckles https://www.bobsbuckles.co.uk/
  14. I’m convinced this changing shape happens after dry fitting. Dry fit and everything fits beautifully, add glue and parts have morphed into things, not of this world. At least, that’s what happens to me. Jon
  15. Bit brassed off today, sorry, had to be said. This one goes just aft of the bridge. And these are the bridge components. There are more to fit, but I have to rest the old eyes. I think, I might do the painting here, and then add some wooden deck to the planked areas. Jon
  16. TWO updates in ONE day. Here's most of the bits and bobs. And just for fun, I've dry fitted the funnels. Be a while before they go on with any permanence, 'cos I doubt they'd survive. Jon
  17. Can't think of better company to be doomed with. Jon
  18. So, just for @robgizlu (sorry it's late, will try to do better) here is todays update, I've painted the superstructure parts. There are some more, but not shown here. And I have gone a bit OOT with the windows (glazed) and I had a thought (very dangerous) with the folded down window covers. My thinking went so...... "The inside of this cabin (?) is probably white, as per most internal walls of warships" "So, it makes sense that the inside face of the shutters would match the internal walls" And here you have it...... I think it looks quite good. I seem to be catching this detailing bug from @robgizlu @Jeff.M @beefy66 so I guess I'm officially doomed, I tell'e, doomed. Jon
