  1. This may have been one of my most enjoyable builds to date. The HMS Alliance kit from Starling Models is lovely and I would encourage everyone to get one (if only so they make more 1/700 scale submarines 😁). The PE parts from the Starling diorama set and the Metallic Details railings are great, I would thoroughly recommend both. The painting is almost entirely with Arcus Hobby Color acrylics in primary colours (I did also play with some oils on the boat). I am really poor at understanding colours so mixing what I need from primary colours has been a great exercise and one I intend to continue. 2. Fun little kit, rather short run and not very refined but still fits well and builds up easily. The base is carved from insulation foam and then tidied up with cheap pre-mixed wood filler. The water is largely Mod-Podge gloss medium and cotton wool. The quote is courtesy of Alexey Belov at Proper Plane. 3. I have the first basic release (48009) on preorder from the Crafting Well and hope to add at least one of the advanced kits when they arrive! I think this looks great!
  4. If you are ok with float planes then the Schneider Trophy aircraft are fairly easy to find. I am currently making the AMP Spitfire S5 in 1/72 which is not bad for a short run kit (but also not great). https://www.scalemates.com/kits/amp-72009-supermarine-s-5--1271064 SBS do a load in (exquisite) resin and although they are pricey, they really are excellent. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/sbs-model-sbs7032-macchi-m39--1411933
  5. This kit is superb. I genuinely think this is better detailed than the Eduard 109 and not far off being as well engineered as the Tamiya Spitfire! The figure and ladder were from ICM's Mk9 Spitfire and RAF ground crew set (which is a bargain at ~£15 for an aircraft with a full engine, five figures and loads of tools). That being said I still blinged it up with: Resin wheels from Reskit 3D printed metal exhausts from ReXx 3D printed decals from Kelik. 6. Thank you! I have been pretty chuffed with the base, one of my better ideas I think 😃
  7. This was my first ClearProp kit and I must admit to being very impressed. The surface detail and engineering are superb, right up there with Eduard, Arma and Wingsy. This was one of the "Expert" boxings which come with PE and canopy masks. The build was pretty simple although some of the very tiny PE wasn't easy although the finished effect in the tiny cockpit was absolutely worth it. Paint was a mix of Alclad and Tamiya Laquers and Arcus Enamels. The base includes a small section of IJN carrier deck made from Scalefour society laser cut railway sleeper strip with some 3D printed tie down points. The tie down cables were done with elastic. 8. Fortunately both are the DH9a (Although that is just pure luck, I hadn't clocked that the 9 and the 9a were substantially different).
  9. As we have come to expect from ClearProp this kit is exceptional. The engineering is good with my only complaint being the connection of the tail booms to the main fuselage (although I can't work out how to do it better). Most of the work actually went into the base which I made from two different types of 3D print joined together. This was a mistake and the differential expansion kept introducing hairline cracks along the join. 10. When these do arrive is there any hope of them including markings for 601 Sqn (County of London RAuxAF)? With ClearProp releasing the DH9 recently and @dora working on this, my 601 collection in memory of my Grandad is getting a lot easier! ps. Evgeny, you are a legend!
  11. Ahh, so it's you we have to thank for the reappearance of this then!
  12. If this is half as good as your Claude I will be a very happy bunny!
  13. I have a question that I can't find an answer to anywhere on the internet: When carrying two bombs (per this kit) would they be released separately or using one release switch/button?
  14. I have an A4 and spent ages choosing which scheme to build it in. I got the appropriate USN decal sheet and then I saw this thread... It would have been much easier for me if you hadn't done such a lovely job 😁 There are several extra schemes I really want to do now!
  15. I am slightly overthinking this but my plan is to paint at this very early stage to make doing the deck colour separation easier. PXL_20220826_210824673.MP by OutcastJoel, on Flickr The Flyhawk instructions suggest that the wooden deck should be unpainted, given that they seem to be on top of all of the latest research I imagine that is thought to be correct?
  16. Being a lucky sort of chap my parents got me this beauty for my birthday: PXL_20220824_192012445.MP by OutcastJoel, on Flickr My plan is to model it in the middle of a North Sea storm and force myself to experiment with white water for the first time. If anyone has any advice on modelling stormy weather that would be gratefully received It is typical Flyhawk with wonderfully crisp detail and superb fit. Hull has a split along the waterline and the upper and lower hull both come in single pieces. The upper hull is moulded with a sprue inside it which doesn’t actually clash with the lower hull so can be left in as reinforcement. The lower hull has bulkheads moulded in and both parts were remarkably straight and true for such long slender parts and fit together like lego. I think if assembled well you can probably get away without any sanding but I rushed into it the moment the postman dropped the kit off so had a very small step (maybe ¼ of a mm along part of the length about 5-10 cm back from the bow. PXL_20220824_192037842.MP by OutcastJoel, on Flickr Because the lower hull is moulded in a single piece there are some mould lines but they clean up really easily. The detail moulding is almost ridiculously crisp, I don’t think anyone else gets even close in Plastic and only the very best resin companies (Starling, Atlantic Combrig etc) can compete. 17. Thank you! Although, I think I can do better and I have the Rye-Field Firefly which would make a better starting point so even if it has then I am not too sad ☺️
  18. Hello Folks, I took part in the Plastic Posse Podcast Sherman group build and decided to make a MkII Crab. Unfortunately nobody actually makes a kit and although the tank museum at Bovington has a similar mk1 (which I was able to photograph just before Christmas) there are far too many differences to make the use of those references. Fortunetely a friend in Canada was able to come to the rescue with a huge battery of photos of the MkII at CFB Borden. The base tank was a Dragon Firefly chassis with a turret rescued from another kit to make a normal Sherman V and then the fun began! I then designed and 3D printed the flail conversion myself taking a total of several hundred hours... I struggled to find good photos of Crab MkII tanks in service so the scheme is actually one nicked from a Mk I crab provided on a Star Decal sheet. Unfortunately my packaging and UPS' handling ensured that the tank got trashed en route to the USA for the IPMA nationals show (although I don't think anyone has had the heart to bin it yet). To add a little more fun, this was my first attempt at painting soft stowage in 1/35 and my first ever attempt at a canvas mantlet cover (printer paper and VMS paper shaper). I am fairly certain that this is my best work yet although the mad rush at the end to get it finished and boxed up means the paint and weathering were maybe a little less refined than they could have been. 292385653_10166927759730434_5601588862797861444_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr PXL_20220709_062131281 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr PXL_20220709_062049642.MP by OutcastJoel, on Flickr PXL_20220709_062029513 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr PXL_20220709_062029513 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr PXL_20220709_062024768.MP by OutcastJoel, on Flickr PXL_20220709_061829924 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr PXL_20220709_061805799 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr PXL_20220709_061729523.MP by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292218581_10166927760725434_3085573304839167970_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292279476_10166927757105434_8640461174863932188_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292389604_10166927760335434_4988006458558435278_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292392549_10166927759965434_4211971379036229229_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292412937_10166927759150434_7526341040628086932_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292442719_10166927760195434_778639368763332413_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292463347_10166927758990434_6503933799737757476_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292513001_10166927760060434_6057402072733983774_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292528358_10166927759190434_4879174131635045360_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292535356_10166927760455434_6538075721951486769_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292580530_10166927760150434_6751405730052163197_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr 292593186_10166927759400434_5734868220405035267_n by OutcastJoel, on Flickr
  19. Hannants announced that this has had more pre-orders than any other kit in their history!
  20. The colour of the Eduard set is quite a bright blue which I am fairly certain isn't accurate however, it looks nice so I am going with it. PXL_20220416_183320457 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr PXL_20220416_183349642.MP by OutcastJoel, on Flickr As promised last time a gratuitous shot of the fuselage starting to look a little like a Gannet. PXL_20220416_192557856 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr The other fun bit has been the canopies, being bulged blown ones they have a mould line along the top of each which is something I have never had to deal with before but it turns out that sanding sticks and Tamiya polishing compound make really quick work of them. 21. Well house repairs trumped modelling time so progress has been slow but one wing fold is pretty well ready for paint. PXL_20220411_201816097.MP by OutcastJoel, on Flickr The cockpit has been prettied up with the Eduard zoom set and the fuselage buttoned up (photos to follow) I think I will miss the deadline of Thursday but I will have a crack at it.
