Revell 1:48 Eurofighter Typhoon
Inverted replied to Dndieje's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
looks great.. and one of the most convincing Barley greys i've seen to date... what paint did you use? Chris -
Just raided all my books/references. I cant find one image with the wings folded and flaps down.... looks like Airfix were correct in their instructions. Only dangly bits were the airbrake and arrestor hook oh and gear doors when in maintenance.... So for flaps down the wings would have to be extended... HTH chris
-
Received mine today from Graham at Relish... WOW. Airfix really are stepping up their game at last. Panel lines are nice and fine, well detailed. The engineering of the kit looks superb. Only criticism is the sprue gates, particularly on the smaller details.. they are HUGE!, and the instructions need a fair bit of reading to get your head around the various flap up/down, wheels, hook, airbrake configurations..... i have another two heading to the stash.. first model i've bought multiples of!!

Thanks for the comments everyone... if your thinking of building one, be warned there are A LOT of parts...... nearly all fiddly too

Hi all, I'm thinking i must have something for rotary aircraft.... heres the latest off the bench, flat is still drying on the rotor...... Kit manufacture: Hasegawa Scale: 1/48 Type: AH-64D converted to WAH64-D Extras used: Heritage Aviation British Apache conversion set, Aires Cockpit, MA Decals Paints and colours used: Vallejo model air 015 Olive Grey Chris

As always your work is fantastic.... dont you ever do any work offshore??

Kit manufacture: Airfix Scale: 1/48 Type: TSR2 Eagle Extras used: Pavla Cockpit, Aviation Workshop Asymetric Loadout set, Scale Aircraft Conversions metal gear. Model Alliance Decals, Gary Langran turned Pitot tube Paints and colours used: Xtracrylix DSG,Dark green, Light aircraft grey. Others for detailing. A shiny new bottle of Promodellers dark dirt wash. Other info: My first What If Well after the seaking comission i needed to get my mojo back. I have to say it probably was one of the most fun builds i've done, as it was great to get back to modelling for myself!! I know there are some inaccuracies with the kit, however, thats WAY beyond my skills to fix. The Aviation workshop set is fantastic giving the 1435Lt underbelly drop tank, another fuel tank, a Blue Water missile and the refuelling probe. Also Pavlas cockpit was a joy to fit. Model depicts XSS668 "L" of 9 Squadron as it may have appeared in the Spotswood scenario in 1972. Chris

Hi Guys, I'm nearing completion building my 1/48 TSR 2 in 12 Squadron colours. I'm fitting the Aviation workshop assymetric loadout (fuel tank and blue water), but have no idea what colour the missile should be painted? The only pics i can find are in a gloss royal blue for the test land based version. Would an air to air version have been white? dark green? if produced? Chris

Hi everyone... Firstly sorry for not being around over the last few months! busy getting married, and funny thing, ever since i've had no time!! However, i'm getting back with it and here is a build i was asked to do. It was my first commission outside the family, and i tell you its quite a daunting task. Kit is the new Hasegawa boxing of the HAR3. Only addiditions was a sand filter from Airwaves, and decals from the spares box and the MA sheet to make things a bit more up to date and accurate. The Model is painted in Citadel "Golden yellow" and i must say it is a much better shade then the Xtracrylix Rescue yellow, which i found to be FAR too orange. Sorry about the pics, i dont have access to my normal camera kit at the moment... Chris

Hi all, Looking for some decent offerings of Signal Red and Roundel Blue in acrylic. I have Xtracrylix Red arrows Red which i believe is supposed to be a good match for signal red, however anyone any ideas for roundel blue? BS381c:110? I'm sure i've read somewhere that one of the citadel blues is supposed to be a good match along with blood red for the signal red as an alternative... The colours will be used on (yes another) 1/48 hawk in this years display colours.... Hopefully someone can help shed some light on this!! Chris

Eduard 1/32 Bf109E-4 BoB Bird
Inverted replied to Inverted's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks everyone -
Kit manufacture: Eduard 3003 Scale: 1/32 Type: Bf 109E-4 Extras used: Aries wheels. RB Harness, Turned cannon, Techmod Decals (32027) Paints and colours used: Xtracrylix, tamiya and citadels. Promodellers dark dirt and tamiya weathering packs, and a dash of mig pigment.... Well, i wanted to build something to honour the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain this year. I've built a few Spitfires, but never a Luftwaffe bird, so i thought why not!? The kit is truly fantastic, complete with etch and a superb set of decals. Eduard also recently released a free replacement canopy and masks to correct the incorrect proportions packed in the kits. I opted for a scheme from the aftermarket. of Walter Oesau 7/JG51 August 1940. First time i've used Techmod decals and to be honest it maybe the last. Decals broke up upon impact with the water. carrier film breaks away in clumps.... not very nice. I had to get a second sheet and coat it with liquid decal film to stabilise them. It only JUST worked..... Regards Chris

Awesome build!!!! for inspiration a pic my grandfather took at Farnborough in what we think was 1960....
-
From that i read it then that Techmod should have written III/JG51 not "3/Jg51" as he was a Gruppe commander. But his aircraft was part of 7 Staffel (7/Jg51)... that sound correct??
-
I believe only 2 airframes to mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain....

Hi everyone, In the middle of researching my first Luftwaffe build. I have no idea why i've never built anything Luftwaffe, but as its an important anniversary this year i've decided to give it a go with Eduards 1/32 Bf109 E4. As this is my first time i've built anything Luftwaffe, i've managed to get myself all confused looking through references, and wondered if someone could guide me in Laymans terms...? Luftwaffe squadrons were called Geschwaders?? such as JG.51, JG2 etc? These were then split into Staffels and in the nomenclature are cited as 7./JG51 etc? Then the staffels are split into Gruppes? and are sited in roman numerals such as III/JG 51? is that correct? the main reason i'm confused is that i intend to build an Emil of Oblt. Walter Oesau W.Nr1432 "White 13" and techmod refer to him being the commander of 3./JG51 in Aug 1940. If what i've written is correct above, that means the 3rd Staffel of JG51?? However this doesnt tie in with the colour of the numbers. As White usually signifies staffels of 1, 4 or 7.... One reference i have founds states he was in fact the commander of 7./JG51 which works, so is it that Techmod and some other references have just got this incorrect? yours much confused..... Chris

I believe the revell kit is an old Monogram boxing of the "A" with a "D" sprue added. Italeri's is their own. I dont think anyone has re popped the hase kit. I have one of the Hase kits winging its way from lucky model. £27 delivered Chris

Nice! I can confirm the Bucc is "challenging" to say the least! Great job taming her -
Hi all, well, without a doubt my most challenging build to date! Fit isn't too bad, but it does require some adjustments here and there. Strengthening the fuselage joins with plasticard helps greatly! I used this to try some freehand camo for the first time, mainly due to laziness, as the wrap around scheme would have needed half a mile of blu tac! First time using a Neomega cockpit.. WOW... resin CAN just drop fit! (take note Aires!) Anyways, modelled as XV160, for a change not depicted in her winter camo scheme, but as she was seen shortly before being transferred to 12Sqn at RAF Honington in september 1979.... Chris Kit manufacture: Airfix Scale: 1/48 Type: Buccaneer S2B Extras used: Neomega cockpit, flightpath detail set (only some), flightpath CBLS 100, paragon bulged wheels. MA decals Paints and colours used: Xtracrylix DSG and Dark green, tamiya and citadels for detailing. Promodellers dark wash. Tamiya weathering packs

Thanks Tim, Just dry fitting has shown that i will have similar issues, so its obviously something to do with the casting itself. Paul does state in the instructions that there is likely to be a gap along the wing/fuselage join, so he's obviously aware of this. Looking at mine, i think the biggest problem will be the nose area in front of the leading edge of the wings. However, i think i'll be needing to add the plasticard to the top of the cowl join as opposed to yours at the bottom. The cowl on mine when dry fitted points upward I do agree though that it is truly a masterpiece, and for a resin kit the slight alterations are quite minor Keep us updated, cant wait to see them in their dio they are destined for

definitely a marathon effort, but worth every minute! Still to build mine with the decals you sent me last year for Carmichaels bird. I wonder if you can answer how you found the fit of the fuselage to the wings? On dry fitting i'm finding the fuselage is probably going to need to be "pinched together" quite firmly around the nose. Did you find that? Also did the cowls go on ok as a result? Yours do look fantastic! Chris
