  1. Tamiya XF 83 Medium sea grey. The radome is Tamiya dark sea grey lightened with a touch of white. Friction are areas at the wing roots is a custom mix of msg and white with some sky grey too. Pitfalls, build the rear section in its entirety before attaching the nose. The worst part is getting the outside faces of the intakes to align. Test fitting and adjusting before committing to glue is the order of the day.
  2. So, I've been wanting to build aircraft from 617 for sometime, but have been waiting patiently for the new Revell release of the GR4. Kit is a marked improvement on the Italeri and Hobbyboss kits. Only replacements were the seats, the WSO's MFD's and the wheels. Little cars lens added to the chin pod, and decals from Xtradecal. Painted with a mix of Tamiya, AK Xtreme metals. The Lancaster is the 1:72 model from Airfix. A surprisingly awkward build with a number of warped parts. Fuselage windows were filled, bomb bay doors replaced with the bulged offering form Freightdog, to accommodate the Tallboy modifications. Decals from xtradecal to get a decent shade of red, and the nose art from the Kits world series.
  3. Windolene or anything with a hint of ammonia in it will lift the aqua gloss and Vallejo. It's pretty much just Klear floor polish anyway. I always tint on the inside using thin Tamiya clear paints. That way you are left with a glossy external finish.
  4. I find a fine pin wash with paynes grey oil works a treat. Just to highlight the panel lines and tie in the decals...
  5. It's the front fork set from Tamiya, so proper anodised turned metal parts. Worth every penny
  6. Yes it's an end of an era, but I think you might want to think about the crews who will be flying civilian SAR before commenting. They are fantastically skilled aircrew, of whom many are ex military anyhow. The new machines, are by far a superior airframe, which to date, hasn't yet been proven to the degree the mighty seaking was, but they will.
  7. Hmm... It does look light a flat canopy window. On that side at least
  8. She was modified on initial delivery to coningsby it seems according to the BBMF article. So I think, no fuselage Windows, twin bubble canopy and needle blades.... Frustrating, yet genuinely interesting!
  9. Well, thanks to Phil Flory and his build, here's another 1199. I used the zero paints from Hiroboy, and the 1K ready mixed laquer. The 2K stuff really is nasty , and even with an extractor I'd be very wary of using it. The 1k stuff is fantastic though It's my first bike and try at ultra glossy. Think I'm a laquer convert....
  10. No H2S, so twin bubble Windows? If only this picture was clearer!!
  11. Hi all, Next project looming, and it's to build the 1:72 Airfix lanc in the colours of DV385 Thumper III whilst in service (not PA474) Usual questions when building lancasters are cropping up, but would like people's opinions if possible. The BBMF have done a fantastic write up here: http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/theaircraft/lancasterthumpermkiii.cfm As such, I have ordered the BI/III bulged doors from Freightdog, and have the kits world markings. From what I think I can gather, is that the airframe was built in Manchester in Oct 43 and delivered in Nov 43. Around this time the fuselage windows were now deleted during production. The cockpit canopy. Looking at some B1 pics, it is apparent that some had bulged side windows and others didn't. In fact, some had one of each. Looking at DV372 at the IWM, I think the latter maybe the way to go with thumper? Finally, narrow or wide chord props? Looking forward to any input from those more knowlegedgeable than me! Chris
  12. Thanks chaps. The magnets aren't particularly strong, but sufficient to hold the panels. The lower cowling is a bit of a faff, so chose just to fix it in place. Who's Ben?
  13. Kit manufacturer: Tamiya Scale: 1/32 Type: MKIXc Extras used: Master barrels, HGW fabric seatbelts, Fundekals markings, Barracuda door & Wheels, What can i say? First Tamiya 1:32 build by me. loved EVERY second of the build. Unreal engineering and detail. The 5J K codes and K tail markings were airbrushed. My other half uses a Silhouette computer cutter for her hobbies. Luckily there is another use!
  14. Well,no chance of getting that Raptor sheen over to the UK. One bottle for 1 raptor. Pricey. I've been researching this recently, and have settled on FS36170. Problem being there is no manufacturer making it. Closest match is Humbrol 224 Dark Slate. Undecided whether to mix in some kinda metallic flake yet though, or maybe an Alclad mist.
  15. Thanks for the comments evryone... Mark, yep she'll be along next club night. Regarding the build, no major issues at all. My biggest "problem" was the wing to fuselage join. What was good, is that the kit is designed to move the wing/fuselage joint up the side of the fuselage rather than at the wing root and the complex compound curves. Nothing some devcon 5 and milliput didnt sort out. If interested the black is Alclad gloss black over their black primer. Then topped off with aqua gloss. Very impressed with all of them, and i will be using them again for sure! Chris
  16. Hi Guys, Latest from the bench. My first full resin kit, and it sure is a beauty. Thanks Ali, and keep the cool subjects coming Chris
  17. wow, what a lovely finish.... just 2 easy little things i think you may need to check however... the exhaust pipes, i believe they are supposed to sit flush(ish) in line with the sides of the heli. Also, the shrouds around the front of the intakes (clear parts in kit) aren't on. not sure if they flew without em? Lynx7 can you shed any light?
  18. Beautiful ! May I ask what colours you used for the main camo?
  19. Thanks again for all the comments. Tamiya RAF Medium Sea Grey (Xtracrylix, Vallejo and Gunze all too dark) Gunze Field Green H340 (closest non Humbrol Acrylic match I could find) Chris
  20. Thanks for the comments..... More pics added!
  21. Thank you. Milliput formed over the kit parts, and evergreen rod/card
  22. Not gonna beat the accuracy of Mr Lynx7's builds but heres my build Truly superb kit. worth every penny. More pics added.... Chris
