  1. ahhh you've beaten me too it! I have the syhart decals and paint as well. You may have seen my RNoAF F-16 over in ready for inspection... i really like the kit. looks like a viper to me, and i'm not one to get the callipers out to check every last dimension. Fantastic value for money if not for the ordnance alone!! Looking great so far!!
  2. Thanks for the comments everyone... really surprised how much good vibes are being given for a plain grey jet! (not that i dont like em, i love em!!). To be honest i never really looked too much in depth before ordering the kit. I heard about the sheer amount of plastic you get and that sold it! you should see the spares box!!! Yes there are pour stems on the inside faces of some parts, but its really really no issue, and in 8 out of 10 cases only needed to be trimmed back so the part could fit, no need for sanding I liked the option to drop the slats and flaps, the finish on the plastic is a tad grainy, but was soon resolved with a quick rub with scotchbrite pads (which i always do first to key the plastic anyhow Another one will be order in the new year for my Dutch 2009 demo jet....
  3. Latest grey one off of the bench.... Kit manufacture: Kinetic NATO F-16 A/M Scale: 1/48 Type: Fokker F-16A/M Extras used: Aries resin seat Paints and colours used: Xtracrylix plus Tamiya for detailing Chris
  4. Thanks for the comments everyone! In Juliens post the build number of the model appears in the list. I remember that listing from a google search and that was what led me to thinking it may have been a RAF machine. However Jelly over on Promodeller believes it was actually converted to an F4-S and stayed in the states...... Oh nearly forgot, decals are from Aeromaster and very nice they are too. They have a whole range of F4-J's so no more excuses fore more 100's!
  5. Hi All... this ones been finished for about a month, just been waiting on a couple of little details before i posted the pics. All comments and critques welcome! A little bit of research has led me to believe the aircraft MAY have ended up as an RAF F4-J... can anyone shed any light whether this is actually the case? 153809 AC/107 VF-31 Tomcatters USS Saratoga 1974 Kit manufacture: Hasegawa "Showtime 100" boxing Scale: 1/48 Type: F4-J Extras used: Eduard etch, Aires seats, AMS resin intake plugs, Flightpath ladder Paints and colours used: All xtracrylix except metal areas using Alclads
  6. Hi all, Just been thinking about tinting my RNoAF F-16's canopy, and have come up with an idea but wonder if anyone has tried it? The pics i have found show a very pale reflective tint. Would it be possible that following being dipped in Klear, the canopy could be given a light mist (i mean a couple of passes) of Alclad pale gold to give the impression? Alternatively i know they also do some pearlescent shades that can give that buffed acrylic look? my thinking is that the alclad will bind to the gloss klear rather than the canopy, thus leaving it transparent. has anyone got a spare canopy they'd like to have a try on? i'm pretty sure i have no spares lying around....... :shithappens:
  7. Xtracrylix flat... think i was a tad heavy so once dry came out a little "milky" so gave it a very light mist of Klear to bring the colour back... gave it a nice sheen i think
  8. My understanding is that it was implemented to aid in the identification of allied aircraft to anti aircraft artillery. It was introduced in 1939 with white and black undersides delineated along the length of the fuselage. This was later replaced with the sky undersides, but for a short while the black wing was again adopted in 1940 this time with only the wing being painted..... Thanks for the comments everyone
  9. Hi all... Been building the PCM Spitfire of late, but for the time being it got the better of me and its now packed away for another day (thing is the Tamiya Ml IX is on order!) To get out of that well known modelling rutt i broke out the trusty tamiya 1/48th Mk 1.... Kit manufacture: Tamiya Scale: 1/48 Type: Spitfire Mk I Extras used: Nada Paints and colours used: xtracrylix for main colours, tamiya citadel and vallejo for details Chris
  10. As i understand it, unlike modern US jets, earlier methods of launching involved a suitable cable being attached to hooks on the underside if the aircraft rather than the cat being attached to the nose gear. These cables detach on launch and were caught in nets just underneath the deck at the far end. Dont envy the job of hauling them back up top
  11. Found a link to this over on pprune.... thought you guys maybe interested! http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5lpja_ark-royal-traps_tech
  12. in box shots now on eduards site.... loving the box art! seat looks rather good too CLICKY HERE
  13. Hi guys, Yep must have been a cross thread of some kind. It was an iwata moisture catcher. Was really surprised it got so stuck with very little effort. wasn't even air tight!! It was just the air valve body however not the brush body. Instead of trashing the moisture catcher as well i resigned to the fact that i would need a new valve and filed down the thread either side to give some flat spots that the pliers could get a better grip onto, and with the help of blu tak as a grip... hey presto all released, but the valve is a real mess! A friend of mine has a mini stash of spares for his, so luckily have parts on the way already! Only question now is, is there anything compatible with the infinity that can act as a decent moisture catcher? or perhaps there is some combination of quick release etc that will work, so i'm not screwing the iwata catcher directly to the brush? Can you help Paul?
  14. Seriously unhappy chappy........ I have a compressor that has a basic water catcher at the compressor end of the line, its not very good and allows water to travel along the line to the brush. For my Iwata i bought one of their inline water condensers and it works superbly on the brush. Tonight i thought i'd have a play with my new infinity i bought a couple of months back and decided to put the water catcher on the brush. MISTAKE. For some reason its welded itself to the air valve assembly of the infinity. It was only tightened finger tight, and i'll be damned if i can get it off again After trying for over an hour i decided to wrap masking tape around the thread and then wrap in fabric before clamping with a pair of pliers to get some purchase. End result thread gone :( GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
  15. Thanks for all the comments everyone...... If anyone is in the Aberdeen area this weekend she'll be on display at the Gordon Highlanders Museum with a a fair selection of others from my local club
  16. Just in case some of you dont delve into the group build sections...... Regards Chris
  17. Thanks for the help along the way peeps Regards Chris
  18. So.... Its FINISHED!! Just finished off with tamiya weathering packs, mig pigments and dark dirt promodellers wash, couple of coats of xtracrylix flat, and a pavla bang seat. Hope you like Regards Chris
  19. Hi all, sorry for the delay in updates..... The paint is on (xtracrylix hemp and light aircraft grey) with various painted detailed all over the airframe. decals are from A2zee and Model alliance. Never realised how many stencils are on this thing and they're not subtle! Coated with Klear, and maybe one more coat before weathering...... once weathering complete, just a flat coat and fingers crossed that an ordered Pavla 2CA seat arrives this week! before a museum exhibition i'm contributing to next weekend! NB... grey splodges around canopy and exhausts are meant to be there.... references show barley grey left over from deployment wasn't completely removed......
  20. Sorry for no recent updates.... paint is on and decals have started to be applied. My god are there a few stencils to add... more of a HSE poster than an aircraft...... I'll get some shots up before i get it weathered and flat coated...
  21. Just received hannants "hot news" email, and for those of you (it might include me) who have pre ordered the eduard release, it states that they are expecting the kits in 2 weeks.......
  22. Hi everyone, yesterday was my last day before back to work first thing this morning, so inbetween getting all the fun domestic jobs done i got a few more bits done to the PR9. Firstly i started trimming and fitting Cammets replacement flying surfaces to the back end. pretty straight forward and adds a little more refinement to the surfaces: Next was to get the wings together and sort the engines out. I painted the blades with citadel metallics (first time i've used them and actually i'm pretty impressed!), and sprayed the inside of the intakes in xtracrylix Hemp, so it left a nice crisp demarcation between the two once glued: The front and backs of the engine structures were then faired in, and the slight seams were filled with Vallejo model putty. if you haven't used the stuff before its great!. It basically resembles thick emulsion paint and easily gets into those awkward nooks an crannies. Also if you mess up its easy to remove without marking the underlying plastic as it doesn't "bond" as some other fillers do. last job yesterday was to get the wings on, and the seams filled ready for sanding today: So onto todays work, working shifts means i got home just after lunch and set to tidying the kit up. lots of sanding and a little rescribing. I fitted the elevators to the rear with some upward deflection to add some interest, next ws to tackle the ailerons, which actually was pretty simple! Make sure you use the correct top halves that include the actuator fairings and not the ones stated in the instructions. Use the ones in the instructions for the bottom halves and you get the correct depth surface. if you build what they tell you too, the surface is near on 2mm too thick and sits proud under the wing. final job was to get the cockpit painted up and canopy all masked and tacked in place, and some seams checked etc. i have also added the missing camera holes in the nose section. next job is to fabricate a couple of the missing lumps and bumps, then the fun begins! Regards Chris
