  1. Yes - Jakt, hunting. So JA is 'Jakt-Attack'. The fighter-Viggen - so fighter first, strike secondary. The strike variants are AJ, so 'Attack-Jakt'. Strike first, fighter secondary. Then we have S for 'Spaning', reconnaissance. Like on AJS37 Viggen or JAS39 Gripen. Aand plenty more but those are some of the important ones.
  2. @PeterB What a great job once again! You have made pretty impressive line up of Saab fighters i really like the look of those green training missiles on the light grey aircraft.
  3. That is simply beautiful work:) Awesome collection! What Starfighter are you building? Kinetic?
  4. Sorry for the double post - but I felt continuing with this build. Sanding done. For now, that is. Worst parts were around the engine covers. Good thing is that there isn't really any details - so you can't sand them away Wing had a really tight fit. Like 'snapped the seam open' -tight. No worries, some CA glue to fill it later. Fitting the intakes, I knew this was going to be bit of a work. Right one needed some fitting and sanding and was more or less OK. Left one did not want to cooperate. This is as far as I took them - it was obvious that they would need putty in any case so I wasn't too worried. The alignment was good too... ... and the fit was good-ish on the bottom, so I glued them on. Lets use all the different kinds of putty on this plane Spread around with my trusty spreading tool made from sprue... I also did some paint testing. Looks pretty good, right? They should be the 'Draken colors'.
  5. Oh, right, don't always remember to check what plane is a rear-cockpit controllable and what isn't Throttle lever didn't come with the kit - just a simple piece of plasticard. But I'll have to do the same for the rear cockpit, thanks for pointing that out! EDIT: Rear seat having a flight stick should have made it obvious having the throttle too
  6. Soo many builds, I hardly know which one to work on currently But Super Sabre is in a good place so I thought I'd move it ahead a bit. Black for the interior & intake - to create some shadow and hide possible crimes... Dark Ghost Gray as the main cockpit color. Some black to pick out the details. Also some paint for the exhaust & engine parts. Cockpit done! Apart from the seats. Also will add some small amount of pigments to create little variation. Quite basic details - but I think the seats will add great deal of interest. No dials for the gauges but they will have to do ... ... and we can close up this colorful beast! So it will be sanding of the fuselage seam now and we can put on the wings - which luckily are already done.
  7. Not sure about you guys but my builds always seem to slow down when there is sanding to do But i got the first round of sanding done - got the biggest holes plugged. So added superglue to the joints, round two of sanding is about to commence... That's all for this time, hoping to get the intakes & wings on soon so it will start to look like a plane. Also purchased the paints, I think I will do a test paint with them.
  8. Right on, decals ordered - also CF-104 wheels. I really should do more research before a build, not during it. But I think we will sort this out Made a start with the cockpit. Basic parts laid out, nothing special but I think they work out of the box. Cockpit tub has weird step where you have to bend it in a little bit - not sure why... Fuselage has too many antennas, some has to go... Like so. I had the PE parts so I thought I'd add some. I like the raised plastic details more on the side consoles - they are nicer to paint and look more 3D. But I think the front dash could look pretty good so I will try that out. Some of the PE parts added to the cockpit and parts readied for painting. Airbrushed some Dark Ghost Gray for the interior parts.
  9. @John D.C. Masters Stunning results with the Venom - and it seems it's in good company!
  10. Oh yeah, already looks good Great details on the guns too.
  11. Interesting to see the effort that goes into making this kit What do you think about the Revell new tool Gripen?
  12. ... then why don't you build one? Such a small plane that you can build it in no time and hardly takes any shelf space...
  13. Speaking of recce birds - has there been a GB dedicated to them?
  14. @Dansk Because of the gun - JA has four fin tank. AJ tank has thee fins.
  15. RA-5C Vigilante BuNo156633/NK603 of RVAH-13, USS Enterprise, Operation Linebacker II, December 1972 The last of the Vigilantes to be lost in the Vietnam war. It was hit by 'Atoll' missile fired by MiG-21 - unfortunately killing the navigator and pilot becoming a POW. This was in fact the only Vigilante lost in aerial combat. At the time of it's introduction - Vigilante was the heaviest, fastest & most complicated plane to operate on carrier decks. But it was about to have very short career - as submarines took over it's job as a nuclear delivery platform in early 60's. But it got a second chance as a reconnaissance plane. A job where it peformed really well, even if it wasn't originally designed for it. Vigilante was big & fast - and highly sophisticated for it's age, having inertial navigation system, HUD, 'Fly-by'wire' and a unique 'linear bomb bay'. Instead of normal downwards opening bomb bay - Vigilante had a bomb chute that opened on the rear between the engines. This allowed dropping the bomb at high speeds. In practice, this never worked very well - but the space left over was used for additional fuel. Fuel that Vigilante used with great success, being able to perform their post-strike reconnaissance missions over hostile territory at supersonic speeds - often leaving it's escorts begging for the Vigilantes to slow down. Vigilante is such a cool plane that gets very little attention - I thought that this GB would be perfect chance to build this plane. Rough idea of the content I am working with. Quite a lot of plastic in the kit and it does look pretty decent. Only aftermarker is pitot tube - but I'm thinking about getting photo etch set too - as I will most likely build this wings up & canopy open. The decals are by Micro Scale (many thanks to @PeterB!) This might be a slow start as I'm quite deep in the Nordic GB builds.

    SAAB VIGGEN

No, it could only be used by the JA fighter Viggen. But Sidewinders would fit the AJ attack Viggen nicely, like here: That is the RBS-15F that replaced Rb04 on the wings.
  17. That looks like lot of putty & sanding! Interested to see the results
  18. Awesome job on the weathering, really makes the model come alive!
  19. Yep, looks about ready to be closed! The belts really add a lot to the cockpit.
  20. That is great addition to the gallery - awesome job!

    SAAB VIGGEN

That is a splendid job! Looks really good. Just a note though, Viggen was not able to deploy multiple different types of air to ground weapon types on a mission - single weapon choice was configured on the ground. So Rb04 + Rb05 is not viable configuration - except only for ferry flights. Only exceptions for this are the AA-missiles and Akan gun pods that could be used together with Rb75's or Rb05's.
