  9. Thanks James - the Airfix kit is a little cracker, which makes the Brengun shortcomings all the more obvious. Nice to have the parts for an early Mk.I though...
  10. That's a jolly good idea - will have a look on Scalemates! Thanks Alistair - my spirits are already lifted with the prospect of the Airfix Tiffie!
  11. Hi All, I've been a bit quiet on this one, as I've been fighting a bit of a mojo slump mainly brought on by my battles with the Typhoon. It all started quite innocuously - the kit has some nice surface detail. Here's the instrument panel: The seat was missing the distinctive padded back, so I fabricated one from plastic card: The kit also appears to contain parts for an early Mk.I or even a Tornado (albeit missing the quarter windows): Here's the cockpit (in its first iteration): Here's where things started to head south, as the whole lot disintegrated whilst I was fighting to button up the fuselage. There is no positive location between components making the assembly incredibly fragile. I eventually got the fuselage together, albeit with substantial gaps which needed sprue-goo to fill them. Here is said goo: What became the final toss of the dice was when I started dry-fitting the wings, I noted a 2mm gap at the wing root. You can see here how misaligned the wing is to close said gap: Now I could have persisted, but the recent memory of building Airfix' lovely Mk.Ib was too much. I therefore did what any sensible modeller would do, which was to crack the sads and hasten to the internet: Yes, dear reader, it's on the way. Life is just too short for bad kits, particularly when this beauty is there and ready to go for the princely sum of $21. So, I shall use the Brengun kit parts to convert the Airfix kit to a car door version. In penance for my weakness I may also choose to 'open' said car door. I'd found this rather nice photo whilst I was looking for the colour of the rear deck (I'm going with black): I may graft the Brengun door detail into a scratch-built assembly, which should make the model stand out a bit better! As I did with my last Tiffie, the wing cannon detail is begging to be exposed too! Finally I found a photo of the Kittyhawk I am going to model (photos for discussion only and will be removed on request): Clearly not a happy end for this aircraft, but the photo does confirm the non-standard codes. Anyway, on with the show! Thanks for looking, Roger
