Thanks very much Alistair, and my apologies for the small fun at your expense

Steve.
Thanks very much Steve! Azure & Mid-Stone both Vallejo Model Air, Dark Earth AK Interactives - all aqueous acrylics...

The wing tip lights look good and the glue not holding is annoying, was it CA being used, if so check the date on the bottle as it might be out of date, I had a similar issue so hot a new bottle and the difference was night and day.
Great work on the Desert Duo fella
Chris
Thanks very much Chris - newish bottle of CA, just a very small contact area!

Hi All,
Another omnibus edition I'm afraid, as time ran away with me yesterday. I spent an inordinate amount of time yesterday on the Tiffie's wingtip lights. Here's half way through:
And after a bit of effort with a needle file, then progressively finer grits. I had to reattach the starboard light no less than seven times...
Looks a bit better in real life! I then spent a goodly while masking the glazing, as I had not invested in masks. So here we are ready to throw paint:
And so to today. The first job was to paint the glazing, meantime employing the @AliGauld SeamfinderTM method ('Crivens, there's another!!'):
Once these minor defects were dispatched some primer was laid down:
The standard Nato Black preshade:
You can see that I also sprayed black anti-slip strips on the Tiffie's wing roots, which were then masked:
It was then time for some Azure Blue action:
Once that had settled down I masked up for the camouflage. Here's Mid-Stone mist coats going down:
Here we are after finishing the process:
Here after a lightening coat:
I then employed the tried and tested blutac worms for the camo:
Here with the Dark Earth applied:
Not the best photo - sorry! Although it was not clear from the only photo I have of DN323, I decided that on the balance of probability that the Tiffie would have yellow leading edges as well as the Kittyhawk, so both were masked accordingly:
So this is where I've landed after a busy weekend:
Next weekend will be gloss coats and decals, so some good progress!
Thanks for looking,
Roger

Alistair,
Lovely build and finish and a pleasure to follow along. I shall bank the use of yellow to lighten OD, and make no comment whatsoever on your use of Starship Filth, other than to say I may have seen that movie on VHS many years ago,

Hi Roger,
Sorry - late to the party. Just saw you're building a DAF Typhoon. I did this a number of years ago -
Note the planes had a tropical filter - can't recall if the Brengun kit supplied the part (I don't think they did as I used a Red Roo part). The later tropical filter for ETO aircraft isn't the same.
Remember the DAF Typhoons had a 3 blade prop (the Brengun kit has this). I think the Airfix is a 4 blader. Can't recall any other differences. I got advice that the DAF examples may not have the tail strengthening plates I added.
Just did some research - looks like the Airfix kit has the later "Tempest tail" - i.e larger tailplanes. Not sure if it needs changing at this late stage.
https://www.hyperscale.com/2013/reviews/kits/airfixa02041reviewmd_1.htm
Compare the Brengun parts with the Airfix ones.
Hope this helps
Michael
Michael,
Thanks for this - most helpful! The Brengun kit does have the tropical filter and the 3 bladed prop. I cannot tell for certain from the photo whether DN323 has the fishplates (but I think yes), and I will check the tails between the two kits!
Cheers,
Roger

I was a bit perplexed as to how I missed this thread, the hop harvest & subsequent lack of mojo explained the first part, you 3 week hiatus got me off the hook neatly for the rest, so I'm now reporting for duty, mojo restored & full of go, sort of. Your adventures with the Brengun kit don't inspire confidence, but having a Redroo conversion as well, the one I have might find itself being rehomed. I'll tag along for the rest & try to keep up. The work on the Airfix Typhoon looks the goods.
Steve
Thanks very much Steve - good to be back in the saddle!

Superb progress Roger, I like the Conversion of the Airfix Tiffie , that is coming on well ( got one fairly recently so I can give this kit a try ). The Kittyhawk looks absolutely lovely as you have built and as a kit too. I am sorry to hear if the recent Mojo slump fella and hopefully these too kits have rejuvenated the mojo levels back up.
Great work on both, looking forward to seeing the paint go on.
Chris
Thanks Chris,
I was struggling with lower back pain, so was unable to exercise which had a knock-on effect on mental well-being. Thankfully a rather clever chiropractor correctly diagnosed the issue, so all is now well! It's good to be back...

Hi All,
I've been a bit quiet on the modelling front of late as I had a fairly major mojo slump. I had pushed along with the Tiffie last weekend but did not have the inclination to post, so this is a bit of an omnibus edition now that Mr Mojo is back! In order to pose the car door open the Brengun canopy had to be butchered:
I actually moved pretty quickly and missed out a few steps - here's some paint being applied to the rear turtledeck:
You can see that I've opened up the fuselage for the door. Whilst I was doing that I also cut out the cannon hatch on the top of the starboard wing, allowing this loveliness to show through:
So last weekend's work got us to here:
You can also see that I've carved out the openings for the wingtip lights. So this weekend has been all about the Kittyhawk. Now although this boxing of the kit is actually called 'Four Gun', six guns are provided - confused, moi? In order to revert to a four gun configuration it is therefore necessary to sand down the reinforcement plates aft of the ejector ports:
One then has to fill the outer ejector ports, and add new 3D printed reinforcement plates (in a rather fetching salmon pink):
Detail on the kit is lovely - here's the instrument panel:
And the cockpit side panels:
Here they are in situ:
The fit and engineering are a real step forward for SH who are to be commended, so very quickly we got to this point:
I think we should see some paint going down next week - it's good to be back!
Thanks for looking,
Roger

Thanks Pete and thanks for the Props too, looking forward to a bit of whittling now.
I have had some fun with the Seafire, but am pleased to say it is very nearly finished. Very chuffed with the Beaufighter , always wanted to do an FAA Mk.II after seing one built by TonyOT some years ago.
Loads more FAA builds to come.
Thanks
Chris
Chris,
This mojo is a pesky business, isn't it?Glad to hear that you persisted - look forward to seeing the Seafire (and the Nomad?!)
