1/48 - Piaggio-Pegna Pc.7 by AMP - released
Lightpainter replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
Hi, I really wanted this model so I bought it. Unfortunately the kit has a lot of problems! - It says 1/48 scale on the box but when you measure the wings and fuselage with their known sizes(wikipedia and a document written by the engineer itself) and recalculate you come out on 1/50 scale... there is a 1/50 scale plan on the internet and the parts are clearly modelled on this plan. It does say 1/50 scale on the plan not 1/48 scale... - Casting quality is not so great on some parts. On the underside of the wings the lines that are part of the wing radiators just stop in the middle sometimes. - On the nose radiator parts the sprue is attached in the first few lines of the radiator. - Wingtips are not fully cast and impossible to get free of the sprue without damage. - A 1/72 scale seat taken out of the 1/72 scale Tamiya Seiran for comparison is actually wider than the 1/48 scale seat of the kit. I do not believe you could fit more than one leg of a scale 1/48 pilot in the seat. I made a bigger seat but you are limited by the small diameter of the fuselage. So by all means buy it and enjoy it but you wil have to do some extra work. And it will still be 1/50 scale. I did mention all of this to Mikro Mir via Facebook and they responded that they would look into it and would have to correct some things... I really want them to succeed since they will be bringing more Schneider cup racers out. Soon there will be a Supermarine S5 and the next wil be the Macchi M.67 or so they told me. I hope the S5 will be better but the casting quality of the sprues they showed on facebook did not really convince me... Take care -

Thank you Now that it is finished I am happy. I got carried away and wanted to incorporate too many details and then you can run into problems. I want to see those models -
GWH TBD-1a Devastator floatplane 1/48
Lightpainter replied to Lightpainter's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Yes it was a doomsday model, all that could break of did... multiple times... the floats make it more difficult to hold the model and the small pieces on the floats come of by just looking at it Thanks for your nice comments! -

Hi, I just looked at your Golden age fighters, they look superb! They are exactly what I like to! Yes I want to replace Photobucket... any suggestions? Cheers Glijn -
Hi Mike, I contacted Julien and he is interested in some walkarounds I have. We still have to work out how to get the photographs to him. Some examples of what I send him to look into: P39 Cutis Hawk 75 Take care Glijn

Thank you for your kind words Yes I like the contrast that a black background gives. I believe it gives a bit more depth to the colours Thank you! I tried to stay subtle in this case -

Thank you for your kind words. Yes I wanted a subtle weathering since the aircraft was used for testing torpedoes and was probably very wel cared for. -

Thank you for your nice words. I will think about your suggestion. I like hard contrasts, used those in my black & white portrait photography too. In this case I only used the black table in the kitchen with a black cardboard background. I will see if I can find a lighter background depending on the subject. -

Thank you for your kind words I kept myself busy with photography in the period that I did not do any modelling, so I combined the two here -
Thank you for the compliment

Glad you understood me Your eyes must be better than mine... I started a 1/72 kit recently and... just put it back in the stash for now... and I will start a new 1/48 scale kit. I had difficulty in seeing the details.. Thanks for the warm welcome

GWH TBD-1a Devastator floatplane 1/48

I used MRP Silver metallic surface primer. Since the Devastator as coated in silver or alluminium dope I tested MRP white Aluminium and MRP Silver. I decided to use MRP silver. I used a coat of Alclad clear before decalling but first rubbed down the silver. After decalling I put on a second coat of clear and started to weather. However when I wanted to use Tamiya pannelliner and tried to cleanup with a thinner the clear coat started to dissolve. So I had to polish everything out to get everything smooth again. Further weathering was done with sludge washes and watercolour pencils to spare the gloss coat. Then I used a mix of 2/3ths Alclad Klear Kote Light Sheen and 1/3th Alclad Clear cote Flat to get the dope finish. This aircraft was used from 1939 till 1943 so the dope finish that was very glossy before became a bit duller in the end I think. The mix gives the shine I was looking for -

I had a lot of problems with it but most were self inflicted. Using the Eduard PE sets made the fuselage parts more difficult too close. Also the floats with the small parts on it make handling more difficult. If you buy the regular Devastator you should have far les problems. Inserting and building the Eduard flaps were no joy. It made it difficult to match the wings to the fuselage. Took a lot of filling and sanding of the wing fuselage join. So it depends on how much you wat to superdetail... I forgot to add that although GWH gives you a closed canopy and parts to open the canopy the individual parts will not nest, they are too thick. I used a mix of vacuum parts and the original parts! -
GWH TBD-1a Devastator floatplane 1/48

Hi there, I did not build any models for 10 to 15 years but last year the boxart of the GWH TBD-1a Devastator floatplane 1/48 caught my eye. It was this model that got me back into the hobby. So I had to buy new tools and paints and learn new techniques. So here is the result of my doomsday model after a year and four months of working on it...... I seem to have lost some experience in modelling after so many years because everything that could break of did... multiple times sometimes... The TBD-1a was a one off and was in fact the first example of the Devastator that came from the production line. A set of EDO floats was produced and it was used to test torpedoes. The aircraft was modified in its life, first it had an antenna before the windshield but on other photographs it was removed. Same for the forward machine gun. Some photographs show the code X2 but others do not so I made an educated guess. On the internet I found a lot of cockpit photographs of the Devastator and thought it could use more details so I used the Eduard big edition set and scratch build the rest of the details. I soldered the ladder from a Nickel Silver rod of 0,6mm. I hope you like it Here is the model: Take care- 31 replies

No I am Belgian and dutch speaking I do have some modelling friends in Liverpool but we do not get the chance to see each other a lot. So my English is a bit rusty! I have a number of walkarounds, some of a few shots but sometimes dozens or hundreds of photographs (the biggest one I never got around to processing however is the Sea Fury T20 at Duxford , never started on that one......close to a thousand photographs. I had permission to photograph the T20 inside and out. Difficult to stand on the wing and keep straight to photograph the cockpit) I saw a lot of very nice walkarounds in the walk around section! There is a nice Hawker Nimrod walk around, The Hawker Hart family is a favourite of mine but I only did a walkaround on the Hawker Nimrod and a very small one at that. Perhaps someone might be interested in some extra cockpit shots? Not my best but they could help someone... There are more in the walkaround. Glijn

Hi from Belgium, I am now 59years old and started modelling in the seventies but stopped some 10 to 15 years ago. My main interest became photography and since I have a big interest in aircraft I did a lot of aircraft walkarounds that I put on my walk around page. Some time ago it was hacked and I wiped the site and was so disappointed that I did not start over.. Pity since I still had lots of walkarounds to process and share. In the meantime I kept on going to our local club meetings(IPMS Antwerp) to see old friends and help out. Last year however on our annual Flanders Modelling Festival I saw the GWH 1/48 Scale TBD-1a floatplane. The boxart was so appealing to me that I bought it and just finished it. And now I am bitten again by the modelling bug I bought new tools and learned new techniques. Sadly my stash has grown again... My interest are: - WWI( I have a couple WNW in the stash already), - the interwar years with the Schneider Trophy racers (I have a couple resin ones in 1/24 scale in the stash and also the beautiful AMG 1/48 scale Hawker Hart) - WWII and there are several new ones in the Stash. I used to build in 1/72 scale but my ageing eyes like 1/48 scale and bigger better. However the odd 1/72 scale model might be build also. Sorry for my bad English. Reagrds and best wishes
