  1. Need some help after two mishaps. Trying to use Flory wash, which seems like a great product, but I can't seem to lay down a durable enough gloss coat to withstand the "rubbing off" process. Applied primer was Tamiya Surface Primer Grey Spray. Waited almost a week to completely dry. Base color first time was Vallejo and second time Mission Models Light Ghost Grey, both acrylic. Again, let dry for a week. Next gloss coats, First Vallejo, second time AK... and let dry for two weeks. Apply the Flory wash and the next day after a few seconds wiping with wet cloth, the gloss coat came off followed by top color of ghost grey. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Should I try a different gloss top coat (Alclad Aqua)? I don't think I'm rubbing too hard, but I'm stumped. I thought this should work. Had the same problem with an X-15 model, but I applied a whole lot less wash... just a very very fine amount of light grey directly to panel lines. Removing was delicate, but same problem of wiping off the gloss top coat. Any help (as always) appreciated. Sample Photos Also, I prefer using acrylics. And yes, I work slowly, oh so slowly!
  2. This is the closest I've come. If it's not accurate, I doubt anyone will break into my study, look under the Whirlwind, notice its the wrong torpedo and then alert the authorities. Realism vs accuracy. Mk 44 Torpedo
  3. Thanks Ewen! This is the closest I've come to a photo... looks like a Mk.44 to me (print is too small to read)... and I have no idea of these are operational colors that align with what it would have looked like in operation at the time. https://photos.app.goo.gl/S312ZbcbxJGiN1sV8
  4. Thanks James! Any help is greatly appreciated. So I'm assuming that somehow a Mk.44 torpedo was carried in this underside recess. https://www.flickr.com/photos/98531702@N05/49643264746/ Now if I can just score a photo of that loadout.
  5. I’m in search of any reference material (images) showing how a torpedo was mounted to this helicopter. My understanding is they operated in hunter/killer pairs - one dedicated to sonar and detection, the other to deliver the torpedo. Any information is greatly appreciated!
  6. Hats off to Olimp for this Harrier set. I was hoping to put together some of these bits through Aviation Workshop. Anyone have any comments on the quality of Olimp resin sets? Doesn't look like they are up to the Aires standard, but that is not to say they aren't good. Should just be removing some flash and then good to go... Thx
  7. I tried to order a replacement for 1/285 5" gun barrels for their ice breaker kit and received half a hull for what looked like a WWII battleship. Plus it took about 4 months to arrive.
  8. Noticed that the new kit is available from Hannants. Just wondering if anyone has any info about what's in this kit above and beyond the base Xtrakit contents. Additional stores? Improved resin? Still wondering if its better to just wait for the Airfix version.
  9. I picked up 3 wing-folds from them. Exceptional quality. Quick shipping. Picked up one set from Lucky Model with free shipping.
  10. Thanks Dave. Found this today. My guess is the chap on the left is wearing std RAN gear for the time period.
  11. Can anyone point me to reference photos (photo) of a "typical" Westland Wyvern pilot? I'm not sure if the Wyvern FAA pilots wore different gear during that time period than the guys that flew Sea Hawks (aka early jets). As always any help is greatly appreciated.
  12. With the pod centered on the belly it looks like there is about 6 inches of clearance, or less. How the heck to they land these puppies without trashing the pod? Also, if anyone could post recent pics with operational Harriers and Paveway IVs, I'd be very appreciative.
  13. Anybody recognize this entry? 1/48? 1/72? CMR? Airfix? Looks like a XX885 - Buccaneer S.Mk.2B (XX885) from Granby. But is that a Sea Eagle ASM under the wing? Any help is appreciated. http://picasaweb.google.com/DJAlpert/Temp#...933847025471042
  14. That resin set "due out very soon" wouldn't be from AviationWorkshop by chance? Please! Please!
  15. You lucky sweetheart. (Sorry, it just slipped out.) Hey, any opinions of the kit? Cockpit detail?
  16. I've been considering the same option myself, converting using the Heritage Aviation resin. But Hannants is now out with the Xtrakit FA2. Looks like it has potential. I was hoping it would include the belly rails for the AMRAAMS, but I cannot see them in the sprues. Fred, on the ESCI/Italeri/Model Alliance version did you scratch build the missle rails (that replace the machine gun pods) or are those included in one of the kits? Oh, and those look like great models. As a nice addition, Pavla makes control surfaces which I think are the same for both FRS1 and FA2s.
  17. I'm not aware of anyone doing Paveway IVs in 72nd scale, but this looks like a great configuration: Then again, maybe toss the GBUs altogether and do it up with Brimstones/launch rails from AviationWorkshop
  18. As always, thanks for the assistance. The first photo looks rather intriguing. The inboard pylons have the GBU-24s, then the external tanks. But on the outside pylon is one of the new Paveway IVs. Wondering if that is a valid loadout, two Paveway IIIs on the inside and two IVs on the outside. Hmmm?
  19. I'm in search of some good photos for Harriers in action with GBU-24s. My interent searchs have come up surprisingly empty. Lot's of Paveway IIs, but not IIIs. Anyone have any decent reference photos? Thanks!
  20. Like this config... Sea Harrier I've seen illustrations like this with the 4 AIM-120 config, but never seen any actual photos of this config. Looks interesting...
  21. I'm in the same boat. There are two options for replacement seats, one from Airwaves and one from Aeroclub. Both are available from Hannants. No pic for the Aeroclub but it appears to have photo-etch parts which might make it more detailed. Aeroclub option Airwaves option According to this (excellent) site on ejection seats the same seat is used for both the GR.5 and GR.7 Harrier Ejection Seat
  22. For inquiring minds and all those who viewed the original post. Cheers!
  23. Looking to dress up the office in a 1/72 RAF Harrier GR7. Wondering if anyone has an opinion (...picture?) if the Aeroclub Martin Baker Mk 12 is a better more detailed product than the Airwaves offering. Not sure if there are any other options. Pavla just announced a 1/48 office. Maybe they will get scaled down.
  24. I'm not sure if that was a cruel tease. ;~) Looks like they have the TER in 1/48th. Are you associated with Skyraider Model Designs?
  25. Anybody know if this is available in 1/72? Also in search of the triple ejector and the AASM missiles.
