Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate your comments on the Takom kit.

I was unaware of a 3D printed version like you have.

Is it to the same scale and is it commercially avalable?

Looks like there is an opportunity for someone to make 3D printed or cast resin storage items for the Takom kit.

Somebody already does, but I don't remember who. Check Andys Hobbys Headquarters.

For any one who has built one or for any one who knows, can the new Airfix 1/24 Spitfire Mk.IXc be built with well fitting removable engine cowling panels? (perhaps with mini magnet mod) Have read that perhaps the Airfix Spit's engine OOB is not quite as detailed as Tamiya's OOB? so might be inclined to build my soon to be started Airfix Spit all closed up and leave the engine detail and removable panels for my 1/32 Tamiya Spitfire.

    Thanks.

    Hey one48

Look for Nigels modeling bench on YouTube he shows what he had to do to get the kits panels to fit over the complete engine.

I'm a retired Automotive Engineer, so I understand mathematics. What you are doing Is a bit over kill for me, besides I don't have all your equipment...lol

I believe that the color mixes I came up with will work fine, especially considering all the weathering and chipping that will be done to this tank.

    Thanks Ron G

Yes I have a RAL chip for 8012. And xf-57 is a pale light tan. I made a mix of xf-9 & xf-7 with some xf-57 And it looks pretty damn close to me. I also made a mix for the Elfenbein RAL 1001 & the grey/green RAL 7033 and they match my RAL paint chips pretty good.

No I'm looking for the color for the inside surfaces on a 1944ish Panzer IV Ausf H at Normandy that would have been left in primer, which from what H. Doyle says was RAL 8012

    Red oxide primer.

E°L is in this shot but it is May and I think 800 & 804 merged just after this which is when I think the Squadron codes changed to red.

note 800 also appear to carry the aircraft letter on the top undercarriage door.  I thought I also saw a coloured (red) cowling band on one aircraft as well..

  7. Hello everyone

I'm in the process of doing my 1/24 scale Airfix Hellcat as a early F6F-3 (mk i) of the 800 squadron on HMS Emperor during operation Neptune during the "D" day time frame.

I need help finding out what size the roundels were on the fuselage and lower wing and also what type. Also what color were the code letters and plane letters and what size, also if anyone knows of any company that makes 1/24 scale FAA Hellcat decals of aircrft  JV131 EL I would be very grateful of any information.

     Thanks Ron G

i had a lot of success & progress yesterday and I’ll put up some pics

big thanks to everybody for all the excellent feedback and pics exactly what I needed for references

    much appreciated!

Cool, let me know what you think

  9.  As far as I know the Mk21is very different from the Mk X. This is the problem that Model Monkey is having trying to figure out all the differences in all the marks.

I have the 1/48 scale Revell Beaufighter that I have been using as a guide, plus as many books and photos that I can glean off of the internet.

  10. Hey Micko

No, its Large Scale Modeller forum. It's much more friendly than LSP.

I did Cad work for a living for 15 or so years, and was a draftsman for 20 years before that.

I ran Unigraphics, its called UG nx now. Very expensive and somewhat difficult to learn.

  11. Hey Micko

I'm doing one of these old Revell Bristol Beaufighter kits over on LSM forum. I work there because I can post photos directly from my phone as I'm working on my online build. Please, go check it out. I'm Crankycraftsman over there, and its under works in progress.

I am trying, lets say, to convert it into a MkX Canadian coastal command plane. I have the Model Monkey cockpit and his 12.5° diehdral tail planes, (2) Vector Hercules resin engines, wheels from a Tamiya 1/32 Mosquito (there a perfect match) and alot of scratch building.

I'm in the process of creating the rear observer/gunner's position in CAD so I can print it on my sons Resin printer, the same one that Model Monkey uses. I have the rear floor and the 20mm ammo boxes modeled up and I'm working on the rest right know. If you are interested,  I my be making these for sale. This all depends on how much info I can accumulate on the rear area and how the stuff comes out of the printer, what to charge, etc., etc. So check it out and let me know what you think.

That looks great and I appreciate all the help...  This will lead me to some experimentation!

    Hey Tokyo Raider

You should check out my build of the old (1974) 1/32 Revell Bristol Beaufighter that I'm converting to a mk X Canadian torpedo carrying bird over on the LSM site. I did it there because I can post pictures directly from my phone (no photo sharing site needed). It might give you some insight.

Hi Brits-  Another question...  I am makeing a Beaufighter 1/48 Tamiya.  They call out a 'copper' color for the lip of the Nacelle and the exhaust pipe.  A friend reccomended XF28 (I think) the Tamiya Dark Copper...

What color would you reccomend as I see a very dark gunmetal for this nacelle lip on a museum Beaufighter?

I would love you to educate me on this!  Thanks!

Remember, the Beaufighters cowl was inacuality made out of metal not copper. The color came from heat staining. The cowl with its "townend" ring was actually part of the exhaust system. And yes it was on later models painted black, mostly to reduce the hot red glow for night fighters and such. The black would chip and discolor. So using a steel metal color as a base add various orange and blues, lightly over it. Then tone it down with a bit of black/brown. That should work, I think. At least that's what I'm doing on my 1/32 Revell Beaufighter converted to a mk X.

  14. Hey all

As I'm not very familiar with this aircraft, could someone please let me know what type of seatbelts were used in a mk. X in the coastal command. I need to order some for a build I'm doing on a 1/32 Revell Beaufighter from HGW and need to know which ones to get.

    Thanks Ron G
