  1. Every seam needs attention with careful testfitting, even then black CA and/or Mr. Surfacer 500 is needed. If you think of the kit as the world's finest vacuform, building it goes a bit better. Then again, Tamiya will never release a 1/144 KC-10 so This is the Way. Used sprue frames to spread the fuselage to allow a better fit to the lower fuselage pan. Used a brass tube for the number 2 engine intake to save me hours of modeling fun sanding the interior seams.
  2. Indeed, I used a Liveries Unlimited 1/144 707 windshield decal on my Minicraft C-135A conversion and called it a day. The remainder of the decals came from Caracal.
  3. I stand corrected.
  4. Nope. I'll pass. I defy anyone to find me photos of an A-4 covered in rivets like that. Your mileage may vary.
  5. The ESCI 1/72 Harrier GR.1, GR.3, Sea Harrier, F-5s, and F-100s are all very good kits and are occasionally reissued by Italeri with exceptional decals. I stress the 1/72 versions.
  6. I don't like the fact Trumpeter hosed up the main landing gear doors.
  7. Thanks for the review. Hand pass. Saved me money.
  8. That is the beauty of this site, B-24 expertens to guide the way. Hasegawa B-24D it is.
  9. Hoping for the eventual B-24D with optional P4BY-1 USN markings. Then they will have my hard earned. Airfix are you following this thread?
  10. Thanks for the comparison and appreciate your hard work. But you’ve convinced me to keep my money in my pocket on this one.
  11. Like kapam I too have that kit in my stash. Seeing your masterwork. . . . . I don’t know, does it inspire me to drag it out or hang my head in shame knowing mine would never look as great as yours? Incredible job.
  12. My dad was a crewmember on PBMs with VP-49 in the late 1940s. I built this Mach 2 kit for him as a labor of love. I spent hours trying to make the clear parts "clear." Decals cobbled together from various Microscale sheets. I got it done but I will never again touch another Mach 2 kit. Which is a shame since they do interesting subjects.
  13. The best scheme ever worn by a Hercules, and I am an American!!! Second place is current USCG. You did a masterful job. I want to do the same scheme with the white crown over the flight deck.
  14. It is bad form to build a 1/72 Sea King and then try to pass it off as 1/144. Just kidding. A masterpiece. Well done.
  15. I shoot all my models in outdoor light. I didn't know the technical reason why they looked better, but they do: 1/144 Minicraft 707-327C 1/48 Hasegawa Hurricane 1/48 Monogram NF-4D 1/35 Tamiya Sheridan 1/72 Hasegawa Marauder 1/144 Roden C-141B 1/144 Minicraft 727-222 1/72 Sword SeaStar 1/144 Minicraft C-135A
  16. Fun fact: When I was a teen with the Explorer Post at Hill AFB in the early 1970s, we got to fly on a Utah ANG KC-97L. Jake Garn, mayor of Salt Lake was the pilot. Don't recall his rank (probably 05 or 06) or the tail number of the bird, so I do not know if it is the one depicted in this kit. Garn later went on to be a Utah senator and flew on the Shuttle Discovery. We now return you to your previously scheduled Academy newsletter coverage.
  17. On my Hasegawa Marauder I taped together all the major components and filled every cubby forward of the main landing gear with fish weights until I was certain I did not have a tailsitter. The plastic landing gear have held up for years.
  18. "I'll take B-17s for $500, Alex." "The diameter of the wing US national insignia during WWII." "What is sixty inches?"
  19. Fantastic. Any pictures of the cockpit crown area with some Milliput to correct the profile. I'd love to learn that trick.
  20. Always looks like something from a Gerry Anderson show. Great job.
