  1. Aaaand finished. This is the last wagon for this project. Not one for the faint hearted or inexperienced. Very detailed but with some flaws that need corrected or worked around. I made the couplers articulate and left the airhoses off, to facilitate coupling with other wagons. Hope you like it and as always comments are welcome...
  2. Yet another wagon ready to receive (some more) paint. And because Thunder Model, in all their wisdom decided to include only one PE grate (and I prefer the grates over the slatted ones, which are included) I decided, after some wise advice) to make the grates myself from Evergreen. Looks a bit different, but not easy to make. Comments are always welcome.
  3. Thank you so much. I always appreciate all feedback, but compliments are my favorites As for the floor, that is actually quite easy.... I start with a base of black primer. Next a layer of Vallejo Panzer Aces old wood. This doesn't need to be covering very well. Next a wash of dilluted burnt umber oil paint. Then a splattering/streaking (whatever you think is suitable) of dilluted black oil paint. In this case I used a barrel to create some circles to suggest some leakage of a barrel. Last but not least a good session with European dust pigments to make it less stark and, well, dusty as most wagons are not really clean...
  4. Today I finished my sample of said wagon. A very nice build indeed.... I only made the couplers to articulate so I can connect the wagon to others...
  5. One more down, 3 to go! The MiniArt gondola is done! As always, I left of the air hoses till I will couple the truck to the others. Actulally this waggon has no brakes, so no hoses are included. Yet in order to have it included in the train, provisions to pass through the air for the brakes of the other freight cars need to be present. I did no go so far as to add piping to the underside, as not of it will be visible anyway (wait, did Í say that??? ) . The cargo will be oildrums. 8 are included in the kit, together with the personell loading/unloading (who can tell the difference?) but that is not enough for me. So another set needs to be procured. That set contains 12 drums, which makes the tally on the doors accurate So, for the pics:
  6. Karls’ driver is also done. This Gefreiter needed quite some adjustments to the lower parts to fit. Figure is from MiniArt. I must say that the facial detail is rather good for a plastic fig… The fig in the office. Taking some distance. Not bad, eh?
  7. Yeah I think Zvezda did a good job here. The level of detail reminds me of the older Tamiya figs, which is not bad for a company that I would have shunned years ago...
  8. After painting and adding one rather bored looking Soldat/ Fahrer (this came with the Zvezda kit), I declare this Mercedes L-4500 finished. Number 6. 4 more vehicles to go (I think)…
  9. It's been a while since I did an update. In this time I have not been idle, and I am proud to say that I've finished another kit for this dio: The Ammo panzer for the Mörser Karl (Pz. Kpfw IV Ausf. F Fahrgestell) is done. Minus tracks and head for the driver. My hopes for the tracks are Masterclub, as they announced the correct tracks with open guide horns to be released soon. For the head I have to order a set with a Schiffchen somewhere. As I have seen a picture of this vehicle with a tarp over the shell gripping device (for want of a better word), I figured it would be a nice change, specially since the vehicle just completed a long train journey. The tarp on the hatch is a necessity, as the hatch dropped and was stepped on. This is to cover up the damage
  10. Maybe here is something for your taste? https://www.mcldirect.com/en/106_miliscale-noy-miniatures
  11. I fully agree with the choice of precision stuff... Great results can be gained
  12. In the meanwhile, I corrected the rear fenders.... Stupid instructions!!!!
  13. I did some construction work on the Ammo Panzer IV last weekend. Officially, you get the choice between the PE fenders or the plastic. IMHO you actually have no choice...
  14. Yet again one of my updates. Building is still not very speedy. To much going on to go ahead at full steam But things are not at a stand still. Some progress has been made on the G10. Talking about a detailed model... But somehow things in the drawing do not really work as they should. Heck, even the images on their website of a build model doesn't look like what is depicted on the instructions! My work (made brackets for the pulling rod myself from Evergreen): Theirs (look at the pulling rod: The BR-86 is coming along slowly too: Last but not least, I decided to change the Opel Maultier for another truck. According to the information I have, the uint made use of 5t trucks. Now that the Germans did not posess such trucks (at least, not as far as I could find), the closest thing where 4,5t trucks, which neared 5t as loading capacity... In the early days, I would not have imagined this, but I opted for a Zvezda Merceded L-4500, as this looks rather good!!! The contents of the sprues looks a lot like Tamiya, and a lot better dan the Büssing-NAG of IBG I build before...
  15. Great layout...!!! It is just that the vehicles (specially the tires) are a bit too clean in my taste... By a good dusting with pigments, the vehicles will integrate much more with the scenery...
  16. You're welcome... I must admit that some of these pics are also new to me??? 😕 I also just found out that the barrel is incorrect and that a German firm issued a aluminum replacement. I actually considder buying that one to enhance the kit further. Lucky for me, I left the barrel separate!!!
  17. I feel humbled by your compliments According to the info I found, the mount offered a 360 degrees travers. That would mean they dragged around the rear piece??? . As for transport, It disassembled into six loads for transport. The loads were cradle, barrel, top carriage, bottom carriage, front platform and turntable and the rear platform. Each piece on its trailer was towed by a 18 t (18 long tons; 20 short tons) Sd.Kfz. 9 half-track. A seventh half-track towed the gantry crane required to assemble the weapon. The gantry crane (powered by a generator on its towing vehicle) would be erected at the new firing position and would take about two hours to assemble the entire weapon.
  18. And the beat goes on: Next up, the open wagon from MiniArt. Nearly ready, the locks on the doors need to be added and the couplers... Then the painting...
  19. Thank you very much for the compliments... The carrier wil be in action, driving off the wagon. I am there fore looking into a suitable tank crew, where the driver will be with his head sticking out of the hatch, and the commander(?) will be guiding him. I was thinking about using these guys: By the way, I saw I missed a picture of the aforementioned mounting brackets for the ammo box:
  20. Thank you very much. I figured that a vehicle that just travelled more than 600km by rail during the summer would be rather dusty.. It must have been quite an operation to get these monsters in action. Not only the operating crew, but every thing around it too: from ammo and fuel to transport, both by rail and by road (for longer road hauls, they were broken down in to 4 loads, transported by Culemeyer trailers and assembled by their own 35 tonne Friess crane). I guess several hunderd men must in total must be in action for 1 gun.
  21. *Alert* For those who thought I was completely dormant the last weeks, here come a lot of pics! The flatcar is finished (left the air hoses off on purpose). Awaiting it's load. Building was rather well, except for the wheels and bumpers, whis are made of another type of plastic, and responded not so good to glue. And the instructions are a bit cryptic in some places. The biggest challenge however was the painting of the planking. I think the result is rather ok. Not only that, but Karl itself is also ready. This piece de resistance only misses its tracks. These have been in back order for quite a few months now. According to my LHS, Friul is not really trustworthy these days. Does not respond to inqueries by both retailers, or importers alike... Further more I started the ammo panzer, yet came accross a inexplicable goof from Trumpy: if you want to use all the supplied PE, you need 109 PE boltheads. (2x 6 for the towing brackets, 6x 18 for the ammo box mounts), yet a fret of 100 is included (no, I did not count wrong: for each bolthead, an indentation is included). BUT, things get even stranger: the plastic parts show only 14 boltheads??? So which one is correct???
  22. A wee bit late, but Thank you @HOUSTON for your kind words. They are very much appreciated...
