  1. Slightly incorrect Steve, it should be: ’The Navy’ is now called Royal Australian Navy ’The Air Force’ is now called Royal Australian Air Force ’The Army’ is now Australian Army. With regard to DoD, I think War Department sound a little better.... As for DoT, why not call it DoT?
  2. Wondering why they have to formulate anything as they read from the 'idiot board'......... 'idiot board', also known as the teleprompter / autocue.
  3. Aeroplane or, at a pinch, Aircraft. To be accurate a 'plane' is a woodworking tool used for smoothing a length of timber. @JohnT 'Decals' were here late in the 1800's. The term was used in the pottery trade. Granted the term was known as décalcomanie, Anglicised to decalcomania and shortened to the word we know and love (or not!) Decal. Where the shift in name came in, have not got a clue! The term Transfer is older by more than a 100 years, origin, again from the potteries, around 1750, the French only started using the term in the 1790's....... Most of the 'Legionaries', for the most part auxiliaries that were posted to the Antonine wall were from the area now known as Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria as they could cope with the weather! The 'wall' in reality a ditch and a pair of banks ran from Old Kilpatrick on the North bank of the Clyde to Bo'ness on the Firth of Forth. That means you were part of the empire........for around 20 years. My personal grump is the now common way of starting a sentence with the word 'so'...... Question, Why?
  4. Nice photo's Jon, thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity, does KC-135 23551 still carry the 'Black Jack' nose art?
  5. ....or, courtesy of Canadian ATC, the Scarlet Tarts......just sayin!
  6. Here you go Arnaud @arnobiz from their web site:- SCIENTIFIC/MHD sarl 272, avenue Henri Barbusse 59770 MARLY LES VALENCIENNES France Hope it helps.
  7. Just DON'T hold yer breath, as Puce is a colour that suits few!
  8. Tom @Modelholic, would I be right in thinking you've let the hospital know of your impending stay? If I may, I'd suggest The Friarage rather than South Tees!
  9. Ahh, glad to see I wasn't the only one NOT issued with a crystal ball as I passed Leeds!
  10. Personally Rob @RobL I'd say leave well alone and sell it to the Tate modern! That way, you'll have loads of money and never have to worry about where the next cutting mat will come from.... Alternatively, try knocking a bottle of extra thin all over the mat, don't know if it'll shift CA but the paint and the sizing grid will just be a memory, ask me HOW I know......
  11. Answers for Victor, on a postcard please, addressed to the dark side of the moon!
  12. If it was the one I saw, the 'person' in question was an inebriated 20 something Brummie running the outside lane of the A38. Knew what he was doing, the Q.E. Hospital is further down the road.......! Apologies to the non inebriated and normal thinking of that fair city!
  13. ...........also, it would be worth having a very nice number of words with our own @John Aero They'll have to take a number, as the top of John's 'job's to do' list is his 1/1 MG rebuild.
  14. Silver lining (ah hum!) @John_W you've got to be below the natural water table........ergo.......self filling and self levelling pond!
  15. Afternoon PP @Phantom Phixer, rather than doing a total re-spray I'm going to suggest trying a little 'T' cut on the vertical fin. If it works your sorted, if not, at least it was a cheaper and quicker option.
  16. @BeeKay thank you for the reminder about Pete, I'm diabolical with names! Is he still in Easington? Might be worth a re-read of Ade's original post, he doesn't do FBook.
  17. Depending on if this company cut the moulds. If the moulds had not been paid for in full they can't be classed as a company asset, therefore ownership reverts to the company who cut them, they can do as they please, including scrapping. Before we have burst blood vessels, to the company it's a matter of cold, hard, cash.
  18. Ahh, so what your really saying @Vince1159 is you like watching traffic! Paul, ducking for cover.......
  19. Morning Ade, @Ade H if I may ask, what are the busts you are wanting the bases for? The pose may affect the style of base that would be 'correct', e.g. if the original is an 'up and down' pose or either reclining or an action pose. Depending on when they are complete, and the bases needed, there's a provisional show at the Tank museum, this month or next, might be worth having a look at the list of vendors? If you can wait, there may be the show in Plymouth next year, but that's ten months away, and also assuming it goes ahead. Oakwood are a decent supplier, I have a number of their bases, and one of only a few who deal with 'real' timber rather than MDF. Word to the wise, be careful of Laburnum and Yew, in their natural state, both are poisonous. On a completely different track, might be worth thinking of buying yourself a 'brace and bit'. Cheaper than an electric drill but will still do the job. Only problem you'll have then is seasoning the timber! Paul
  20. Afternoon Ade, @Ade H. Depending where in the South West you are, there's a branch of BMSS in Bristol, and should you be further West another in Plymouth. Reason for mentioning these is they are dedicated to figure modelling in all it's forms, I would suggest asking them if they know of / have found a good supplier of bases. Had a look at your link, would I be right the 'fittings' you talk about are the central brass rod / tube? If so, if you have a supplier of seasoned hardwood within a reasonable distance, might be worth asking if they have any 'off cuts', then you could make your own. Albion Alloys are a supplier of, amongst other things, various sizes of brass and alloy rod and tube. Find the piece of timber you want to use, find and drill the centre, insert tube / rod of choice = base. Another supplier that may help, if there's one near enough would be an engraver of trophy bases / plinths and purchase a base to suit. To my mind, the base shown would make any 80-90mm or larger, bust you mount, top heavy. Column is 70mm high (approx 2 3/4" in proper!) bust will be at least similar giving an average height of 140-150mm (5 1/2 - 6") with the contact point being 35mm on each side (1 1/4 - 1 3/8")..........would be alright in a case, but if free standing.............. 21. Do what they do in the States, and treat them as a deer. When your about to hit a deer, what do you do? SPEED UP! Just sayin................
  22. @treker_ed Might be an idea to have a word with Toyota UK, as the Auris is UK produced:- Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd. Burnaston, Derby, DE1 9TA. 01332 282121. Might just put the insurance company on the back foot.................
  23. Morning @Hobo There was the XF4H-1 prototype. F4H-1F original production, became the F-4A including the USN 'Sageburner' and the USAF 'Skyburner'. F-4B / RF-4B, F-4C / RF-4C, F-4D, F-4E / F4-EJ (+variants) F-4G, F-4J, F-4K (Royal Navy FG.1), F-4M (RAF FGR.2), F-4N (upgraded -B) F-4S (upgraded -J). Upshot is, we'll get what we get! Think of it like Christmas, you may THINK you know what your getting but until the wrappings are removed..................
  24. The most recent message I've had from Baris was back in June. There were a number of reasons the kit production from Tanmodel stopped. The most important being Baris had a heart attack in January '21. He's on the road to recovery, but it's a long road with more than a few bumps along the way. I'm sure that everyone on here will wish him well and hope for a complete recovery. Second reason was the company were contracted to the Turkish Military. HTH Paul
