  1. Unfortunately the discovery of the technical order was only made whilst researching for the Spitfire book. Vikram Singh was quite elated with the discovery. Before that date people had assumed the background and colour on best practices and unfortunately got it wrong. Its nobodies fault. At least the correct way is out there now. Vikram Singh discuses briefly the Chakra colour in the video above. The Spitfires in the Sun book is out of print. Simon Watson at the Aviation Bookshop gets them from time to time and was actually hoping to reprint the book as softback. I understand from the author that more pictures are available. Regards Phil
  2. The definitive word on this is 'Spitfires in the Sun' by Vikram Singh. (ISBN 978-81-903591-5-3) He is a serving officer in the IAF and modeller. Page 114-5 of that book reproduces Air Force Order (I) Tech 1/48. This order dated 30.4.48 describes the national markings for aircraft. it quotes '' Note:-Where the roundel is not distinctly visible on camouflage paint a yellow base is to be given from colour identification on yellow stores ref. 33B/179. The circular yellow base should be 3 inches bigger diameter than the diameter of the Chakras' The only mention of Safron is in relation to the 'tricolour flash' on the tail. Regards Phil
  3. confirm yellow background on camo aircraft as well Regards Phil
  4. actually let me double check that as it was yellow background used on silver aircraft. Need to be 100% clear that is was used on camo as well
  5. Great news about this. Should be a painless conversion to the Indian AF Su30MKI. Some RWR need to be added and replacement instrument panels.
  6. U2163 is a Type 69 (UM) direct supply aircraft from USSR to India. Some of these were in temperate USSR scheme of earth, green, brown camo with light blue undersides. Later India got a lot of second hand trainers from ex CIS states and these were in many different guises, Another variation was light brown, dark brown, green and light blue. The BIS (C2776) is in the jungle scheme consisting of light grey undersides with a top surface of tan and dark green. Regards Phil
  7. I Notice Hannants have got stock. Has anyone got images of the box art and contents? Regards Phil
  8. If you do the Indian version as depicted in this kit, you will not need weapons as it is a target tug. The rear ventral fin was removed and a hook added to attach a wire and sleeve. The grey scheme was introduced by the IAF in 1999 and not 1989.
  9. I have this one in my collection. No idea of squadron. Phil
  10. I don't think the grey will be your major problem, but matching the port side Sanskrit 'IAF' titles will be. I checked my AN32 Kit today and the decal sheet for the IAF is incorrect in having English titles both sides.
