  1. I will probably weather this, a lot. I'm thinking of making a diorama and this could be extra for it. I'm definitely going to give a few goes with some rust looking wash. Maybe even a light dusting of an orange color first. I've got some humbrol rust wash but never used it. It's enamel stuff. 🐧
  2. In the daylight today sat at the window it dawned on me that this is way to yellow. Going to need a little orange on it. The yellow base should help though. Just need to be careful not to create shadow in the wrong place.
  3. Satin white paint undercoat, a little bit of xf1 black here and there, and then on with the layers and layers of yellow paint. You can't see it very well in this pic but the clutch and brake pedal need replacing. There are significant bubbles in it, I think my friend cast these at home without a vac tank. Will get some other bits painted and report back. 🐧
  4. There's a little bit in the bottom that accepts a coin cell to make the beacon flash. I bagged a free sample of this stuff ages ago, seems like a good time to test it out, now it's out if date πŸ˜‚ Had to scrape away a bit here over the gearbox to get the engine to sit a little better. Seats have already had the mounts made. Seats and front bumper on. The hutch is already made too. Same goes for the back. Dry fit of the wheels to what we've got. Realised after uploading the pic that I took it with the wheels on the wrong way around πŸ™„ All credit to my pal here. He's thought of everything. Battery, exhaust and bits to be added tomorrow, getting late now. Oh, superglue seems to work just fine. Has a bit of working time maybe 2-3 minutes, but as soon as it goes, it's jelly for a few seconds then it sets rock solid. I'm not sure if this is in the right section of the forum. But thanks for looking πŸ‘ 🐧
  5. Hi πŸ‘‹ thought I'd come bother you lovely people for a while. A friend and I used to work at a molding and resin casting company here in Birmingham many moons ago. It's funny, when I worked there I had little to no interest in the actual hobby. I liked the molding and casting part more, all the different resins and metals, all the different kinds of rubber molds etc. Some of the work we did, I've seen here on this forum too πŸ˜€ Anyway. The boss would let us have bits and bobs for our own use and silly me, never really grabbed much that was on offer. Just the odd figure, tiny machine gun or car body I had molded myself as a momento. My friend however did. He gave me a little box a few years back that had a Douglas Taskmaster in. He made one himself ages ago and put together a little homemade kit for me to. I need a bit of a break from rigging Ww1 wingy things so I'm here with this. It doesn't really need much fettling, just assembly. Im not sure about the trailer bit. Anyone have a link to a picture? 🐧
  6. Won't bother with a RFI as hopefully one day I'll get round to removing bits and replacing it with metal. For now it can live on the boys bedroom ceiling. Here's how it looks for now. The landing gear assembly and one wing appears to be crooked too. It has been sat on the shelf for a while on a sunken box lid. Sorry I haven't the heart to complete this one just now. I learned a lot building the DH2 and now I can see where I should have thought about this build in advance. Live and learn. 🐧
  7. Can't face the rigging. I should have replaced some of the kit parts with metal, the plastic isn't strong enough. Gonna call it done.
  8. They're both painted yellow aren't they πŸ€”
  9. A quick question if I may. I have a Douglas Taskmaster to build. Do I put it military vehicles or none military vehicles?
  10. Thanks. Painting the exhaust was probably my favourite part. I used a few tips from uncle night shift on YouTube
  11. Amazing work. Especially like the machine gun barrel shrouds. The engine looks fantastic too.
  12. To be honest I was dissapointed with this kit. Was very flashy, tooling obviously worn. Some parts were paper thin, the photo etch for the cockpit was overly complex and just not needed really, especially considering you can't see any of it. Vacform for the windscreen doesn't fit without butchering it into something that won't look right so I've abandoned it. I should have chosen the Italian camo scheme too as I'm really not very good at German mottled camo. Anyways, here goes. Might get a maachi 200 next to try the Italian camo. Thanks for looking 🐧
  13. Will make an RFI I've had enough and calling it done.
  14. Managed to tease the kit parts into place so far. Will upload a pic when I've got the rest of the struts set.
  15. I might just use plastic rod or even metal. The supplied kit parts are so flimsy, I've broken two already that needed gluing back together πŸ˜•
  16. That's an idea. I did the sopwith a few years back and wasn't as hard because the struts are vertical. Theae are angled. πŸ™„
  17. I really should have picked a better camo scheme. One with multicoloured dots on it. I'm terrible at German camo. But too late now. Got colour on, got decals on, all but one had cracked, so that wasn't the easy quick job I thought it would be. Typical. Used chalk pastels for some exhaust smoke. Hopefully it looks 'ok' You can't really see in the images. But I layered up paint on the exhausts by stippling, it gave it some nice rough texture, and there's burnt umber and yellow ochre tones in there. Got to try and get the top wing on now. That's going to be 'fun' any suggestions? 🐧
  18. I'm not going to use the resin engine. So I've blanked it off. Managed to crack the filler too. So had to fill again. Still needs sanding down a little. But the nose is on. Will need a bit of re, re scribing 😢😢😢 Have to sort the wing struts out next. Going to see how well the kit parts hold up before I make new ones. 🐧
  19. It appears I saw the smer box art and have confused the camo types. Still....could be a WIF, most of my builds, sorry, all of my builds are approximations with lashings of artistic licence πŸ˜‚
  20. I quite fancy getting another so I can try the smoke ring camo. Maybe a macchi 200 instead. This has to be one of the worst kits I've made, next to the tamiya harrier frs1 πŸ˜‚
  21. I've battled on. I'm going to say it. It's not been a 'pleasurable' kit to work with. I've had to do a lot of clean up and since I've recently learned scribing, I've had a bash at reinstating the panel lines. Had to put pins in the wings otherwise no way to get then to sit. The lugs were long gone under flash and torn up mold. I ended up getting a little bored with it, so out some paint on it to pre shade, but sanding isn't quite finished in places yet. This will be the second flashback kit I've built. And it's not at all like the Taube, which is still sat on the shelf waiting to be rigged. That kit had almost no flash and was cast in a nicer 'feeling' plastic. I recently made a DH2 to practice rigging. So ive got to finish the Taube now πŸ˜‰ ANYWAY I didnt really get on with the rest of the photo etch for the cockpit. It was just to much work for so little reward. You can barely see into the office anyway. I didn't give up entirely but I also never bothered to paint the dials. Whoops. The wing struts are wafer thin. And in places are mostly made of casting gates. I'm not sure if I'll use these yet. Maybe just use plasticard? The nose needs cleaning up and rescribing in. Going to be a challenge to get it to fit. I'm actually thinking it's not worth using the resin cast engine on this. And just making two disks for the inside. The airscoop will need some fitting too. Untill tomorrow, thanks for looking Oh the top wing is in the box, forgot to take a picture of that. That's about the only bit that seems OK. I've drilled holes in it for something to key the struts to. Bit that's for another day. 🐧
