  1. Got mine from Hobbylink Japan- for about £35 a year or so ago, before the exchange rate of the pound against anything made it even MORE expensive! Their Sea Fury, by the way, is even better - and even more expensive; but for that you also get internally detailed cannon bays, and dropped flaps. I suppose, when you think of the cost of resin corrections sets for other kits, combined with photoetch, their prices aren't TOO bad...
  2. Utterly stunning build of what looks to be an almost unbuildable kit! I'm waiting for the Airfix one too
  3. And barbershops. As I young lad, it was a joy having my hair cut whilst wondering what Frog kit I could persuade my mother to buy for me... Frog going bankrupt was, I think, the reason I've hardly ever visted a barber since!
  4. Looks really nice! The Solarfilm works really well.
  5. I was about to say the same thing! Great model, lovely aircraft.
  6. Xtrakit Simitar AND Vixen at the same time????!!!!! And I thought I was a masochist!!! Bet the Sea Prince is the easiest of the bunch! What's the kit like, anyway? Have yet to try my hand at a Sea Prince yet...
  7. Good point! But I've tried and tried to get my models to sit properly, but I just tend to bugger things up - I can NEVER get the flattened parts of a tyre to actually sit flat on a shelf, I always end up sticking the bloody thing on at a slight angle, which then looks worse; and if I try and flatten it once the wheel's attached to the leg, I just ended up breaking the leg off So I gave up that years ago, and have had tippy-toe ones ever since! Actually, it would be difficult for the Firebrand anyway, since it has little rubber tyres.
  8. Great model, I think the weathering is perfect - looks nice and subtle to me!
  9. Great build and stunning finish; lovely shading on such a shiny bird!
  10. Thanks, glad you like 'em! The CMR Bucc is possibly the most challenging kit I've ever made; and the fit, unlike a lot of their other models, is NOT GOOD. I still have nightmares about that warped fuselage; not to mention sorting out what bits are needed for what version. @ Tonyot: I found a highlighter was essential, once I'd decided on the scheme I pored over the instructions a few times to mark out what parts I needed, then put the rest straight into the spares box - it makes the parts cleanup a lot less daunting. But the detail is unlikely to be surpassed by any other Bucc kit, current or future; and you get a shedload of weapons, seats etc for the spares box. I even was able to use some spares for my conversion of an old Airfix S2 back to an S1 The Firebrand is, indeed, stupidly expensive; but you're paying for a handmade kit that fits as well as the very BEST injection moulded kit - I only used a tiny blob of filler at the underwing to centre fuselage join, and a little tippex on the roots and a couple of parts of the leading edges. Not to mention the fact that the detail is never going to be surpassed by an injection kit; the exhausts have to be seen to be believed. I almost dropped the flaps, but I felt that would be tampering with perfection too much - couldn't bring myself to chop this beauty up!
  11. Thanks! I'm not entirely happy with the demarcations on the booms, as I think the EDSG is little too low; but dodgy vacuform + loads of filler + compound curves in all directions + some very narrow pointy sections = masking nightmare. Thank goodness most other Vixens have more sensible demarcations!
  12. Veerrrrrrry nice. Not a Sabre fan, but this scheme makes me reconsider!
  13. Two resin beasties, both handpainted with Xtracrylix. The CMR Bucc built out of the box about 18 months ago; a very, very challenging kit - but it looks amazing built up. I buggered up the paint demarcation on the nose, but other than that, I love it! The Aki Firebrand is an absolutely gobsmaking kit; a resin model that builds easier and fits better than most injection kits. It's impossibly to make a bad model out of this one! Built this whilst doing my DH110 as an 'easy' model to keep me sane! Hope you like!
  14. Finally finished this monster after about 6 months - onto the next Vixen now! WG240 is depicted in the faux-naval colours she wore at the 1953 SBAC show; although I've seen different photos both claiming to be from the same event with differing colour demarcations; so it might not be 100% accurate! Not the easiest kit to build, but damn god fun! Finished entirely in brush-painted Xtracrylix, with additional bits from the etched Airwaves Sea Vixen set, Aeroclub Vixen Set, and a couple of bits stolen from an Xtrakit Vixen... Build thread here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...17&hl=wg240 With a contemporary prototype, the Hawker 1052 (swept wing Seahawk): And alongside my ANCIENT Frog Sea Vixen FAW2, built in about 1994: I've not yet decided whether to go for XP924 in her current scheme, or the Black FAW1 next - but Xtrakits are being butchered as I type (well, almost, hehehehehe!)
  15. Great stuff - especially love the first few shots with the sea/lake (pond?) in the background.
  16. Bloody lovely. I don't usually build in 1/48th, but this one looks very tempting!
  17. This is just insane!!!! WOW! Looking forward to updates!
  18. That's looking fantastic. Looking forward to seeing some more pics!
  19. Lovely stuff! Never knew they did the EE P1. Anyone built one?
  20. Right, have been very slowly working on whilst trying to get a house move sorted out! Have chopped the u/c off, shortened them all, angled the front gear a little more, attached the canopy , weathered, added decals etc... Nearly there now, just got lots of retouching to do, soften the weathering a little, and add the aerials, pitots etc.
  21. She is indeed a beauty - drove down to Culdrose viewing enclosure at midday and stayed there for about 4 hours, as I can't be ar*ed with the main display anymore since they moved it into the middle of the school holidays, too much queueing!!! Until the rain hit, the sky was so busy it was pretty much better than any PROPER Culdrose display I've seen in recent years; a couple of Hunters arriving, the Catalina, Provosts, Gnat, and a FULL display by Foxy Lady!!!!!! I got the impression they were showing her off in case tomorrow is a wash out. Thank goodness they did!
  22. Oh bugger - yup, I think you're right! I blame the old Frog Sea Vixen kit - I based the length of the nosegear on that, without noticing that it was depicted as fully extended. I then based the length of the main gear on the nose leg, making sure it was all level. I guess I could argue that in your pic it was fully laden with fuel, whereas mine depicts it after a (very) long flight - with engines removed for an overhaul?
