Fields of the Nephilim, Tool, goth music etc... hiking, birdwatching, choking on crushed velvet dust (occupational hazard for my wife and I)...

... oh, and modelling. I'd make pretty much everything and anything given time and space and money (apart from model cars?!!) ; but I mostly restrict myself to aircraft.

Given that the above constraints still apply (after all, there are a LOT of aircraft in a LOT of scales!) I tend to stick to 1/72nd Fleet Air Arm post-1945 ones. Mostly.

1. Got mine from Hobbylink Japan- for about £35 a year or so ago, before the exchange rate of the pound against anything made it even MORE expensive! Their Sea Fury, by the way, is even better - and even more expensive; but for that you also get internally detailed cannon bays, and dropped flaps. I suppose, when you think of the cost of resin corrections sets for other kits, combined with photoetch, their prices aren't TOO bad...
2. Utterly stunning build of what looks to be an almost unbuildable kit! I'm waiting for the Airfix one too
3. And barbershops. As I young lad, it was a joy having my hair cut whilst wondering what Frog kit I could persuade my mother to buy for me... Frog going bankrupt was, I think, the reason I've hardly ever visted a barber since!
4. Looks really nice! The Solarfilm works really well.
5. I was about to say the same thing! Great model, lovely aircraft.
6. Xtrakit Simitar AND Vixen at the same time????!!!!! And I thought I was a masochist!!! Bet the Sea Prince is the easiest of the bunch! What's the kit like, anyway? Have yet to try my hand at a Sea Prince yet...
7. Good point! But I've tried and tried to get my models to sit properly, but I just tend to bugger things up - I can NEVER get the flattened parts of a tyre to actually sit flat on a shelf, I always end up sticking the bloody thing on at a slight angle, which then looks worse; and if I try and flatten it once the wheel's attached to the leg, I just ended up breaking the leg off So I gave up that years ago, and have had tippy-toe ones ever since! Actually, it would be difficult for the Firebrand anyway, since it has little rubber tyres.
8. Great model, I think the weathering is perfect - looks nice and subtle to me!
9. Great build and stunning finish; lovely shading on such a shiny bird!
10. Thanks, glad you like 'em! The CMR Bucc is possibly the most challenging kit I've ever made; and the fit, unlike a lot of their other models, is NOT GOOD. I still have nightmares about that warped fuselage; not to mention sorting out what bits are needed for what version. @ Tonyot: I found a highlighter was essential, once I'd decided on the scheme I pored over the instructions a few times to mark out what parts I needed, then put the rest straight into the spares box - it makes the parts cleanup a lot less daunting. But the detail is unlikely to be surpassed by any other Bucc kit, current or future; and you get a shedload of weapons, seats etc for the spares box. I even was able to use some spares for my conversion of an old Airfix S2 back to an S1 The Firebrand is, indeed, stupidly expensive; but you're paying for a handmade kit that fits as well as the very BEST injection moulded kit - I only used a tiny blob of filler at the underwing to centre fuselage join, and a little tippex on the roots and a couple of parts of the leading edges. Not to mention the fact that the detail is never going to be surpassed by an injection kit; the exhausts have to be seen to be believed. I almost dropped the flaps, but I felt that would be tampering with perfection too much - couldn't bring myself to chop this beauty up!
11. Thanks! I'm not entirely happy with the demarcations on the booms, as I think the EDSG is little too low; but dodgy vacuform + loads of filler + compound curves in all directions + some very narrow pointy sections = masking nightmare. Thank goodness most other Vixens have more sensible demarcations!
12. Veerrrrrrry nice. Not a Sabre fan, but this scheme makes me reconsider!
13. Two resin beasties, both handpainted with Xtracrylix. The CMR Bucc built out of the box about 18 months ago; a very, very challenging kit - but it looks amazing built up. I buggered up the paint demarcation on the nose, but other than that, I love it! The Aki Firebrand is an absolutely gobsmaking kit; a resin model that builds easier and fits better than most injection kits. It's impossibly to make a bad model out of this one! Built this whilst doing my DH110 as an 'easy' model to keep me sane! Hope you like!
