  1. Rainbow Lorikeets and Magpies, haven't seen anything made out of metal for a couple of weeks!
  2. Been in in that situation before............except it wasn't model kits, it was a $3000 Gibson guitar.
  3. F-111 - though I now have both and an F-111A (or EF-111A depends on my mood when I build it) and an F-111G in the stash MiG-21 - also have one in the stash now Tornado - guess what? one in the stash Typhoon - yep, one of those in the stash too F/A-18F -yep, stashed F-22 - finally one not in the stash
  4. Black marker sounds like an idea worth trying. Will give it a try, and might also apply it to whatever rigging I eventually get the courage to put on it.
  5. G'day all, Decided to get stuck into something a bit different from my normal builds (1/72 aircraft, the odd Star Wars kit and 1/700 battleships) and get stuck into a 1/350 scale Schleswig-Holstein (1908). Having never worked with fence railings before, (though I have used other PE parts on several of my 1/700 builds) I'm wondering if anybody has any advise, in particular to when it comes to painting. I'm sort of tossing up between painting the railings first and then installing, or vice-versa. If the latter, what is the best way to paint it? Do you brush paint it, reducing the masking required or masking it to high hell and hitting it with the airbrush? Cheers
  6. I've been putting off my 1/72 F-35 build due to the masking involved. Glad I found this though. I plan on doing an RAAF version, and it looks like I don't need to do the crazy masking. (I just need to remember this when the time comes)
  7. I'm thinking of setting up a couple of computer fans to battery packs, with a ventilation pipe to point of out of the window to upgrade my booth. Before I go cutting holes in my booth, does anybody have any thoughts on how effective this might be, or have you tried it out already and can impart some words of wisdom.
  8. My very first kit was a 1/48 scale F-14 Tomcat in VF-84 Jolly Rodgers markings that I received for x-mas or a birthday around 30 years ago... I've forgotten who made the the kit, and the model itself would have been thrown out 20 or so years ago.
  9. I've seen a grand total of one, double the price of the EF-111 kit, and that's before another $30 for postage. I'd rather do the extra work than line the pockets of somebody greedy.
  10. I was hoping for the same. Hopefully something gets announced before I begin work on this kit (I've got a recently started 1/350 battleship taking up all my space that needs to be completed first!) I like the look of the red on the slats and flaps, so I will probably have them deployed anyway, but I may have to also extend those along with the wing as they appear to go the full length.
  11. Cheers That's what I was hoping to hear. I wasn't entirely sure if the wings were merely a continuation of the existing wing or not. I'll give building some extensions a go. I have some sheets of varying thickness to play with, so I'll see how it goes. I notice a lot of kits have the flaps and slats deployed, I assume these require extending as well? F-111A is plan B should I fail.
  12. G'day all, I'm looking to build myself a 1/72 scale F-111 in RAAF markings. I know there is a Hasegawa kit out there that fits the bill, however I'm finding it virtually impossible to find one anywhere. (at least not one that isn't at an over inflated price) What I have been able to find is Hasegawa's EF-111 kit, and I'm wondering how easy it would be for somebody with minimal experience in modifying kits to convert it to F-111C standard. I've never actually made any major modifications to kits, and scratch-building experience starts and ends with two 1/24 scale electric guitars I built recently to go with a car my wife built. The most obvious to me mods would need to be the tail fin, lengthening the wings and the modifying the landing gear too. The latter may fit in the "near enough category" as I'm not too concerned by being 100% accurate. I imagine too, a few aerials and what not to be chopped off or added on. I don't imagine the tail fin would be too much of a difficulty (hopefully there is 1 already in the box), however I'm more interested in how I would go about extending the wings and would be interested on hearing how others may approach this.
  13. I picked up an JAS-39A Tamiya kit recently. I couldn't tell you how good it is (or if it is just an Italeri rebox) as I haven't opened it yet, but that might be another option.
  14. I've already flown on one and lived to tell the tale and I'd get on one again. However that being said, I'll try to avoid them where possible until I'm satisfied the fault is fixed (a year or two). And I prefer A320s anyway, I feel less cramped on them, so that's another reason to avoid not just the MAX but any other 737 version.
