Airfix 1/32 Multipose German Infantry A55210
fightersweep replied to Ratch's topic in Figure Ready for Inspection
Great work Ratch! These were, and still are, superb figures. Remember the first two sets of Airfix multipose figures I picked up around 1981 or so. The German Infantry and US Marines. I was majorly impressed with them and thought they were far better than the Tamiya figures of the time. Steve -
Crikey! That's fantastic modelling! Everything beautifully executed and displayed.

Information on RAF Hornchurch (1939) Wing Commander Required
fightersweep replied to davecov's topic in Aviation Chat
Hi Dave; Think we've swapped stories about Hornchurch in the past. My grandparents lived in Gillam Way, and this aviation mad youngster loved soaking up anything that was left there. Wish I'd been around to see the airfield before it was built over. At least there's still a little bit of history to see there. My favourite RAF station with Rochford a close second. Had a thumb through the books I have on Hornchurch, and they all say C T Walkington, from July 38 to October 39. So I guess that would cover January 1939. Cheers! Steve -
I'll certainly be building both yours and the Combat kit. Maybe I should do a side by side WIP once I get around to them. I've done a little cleaning up on the Combat kit, and even though it has a full cockpit, cleaning up the area around the windows is scary as the resin is very thin there. It's all sturdy enough once the wing is fitted but something to be cautious of. Your approach of the solid clear resin for the glazing is way more sturdy, and being a high wing jobbie, there won't be much seen at eye level anyway. Either way, I had been waiting for a Broussard for ages, then two great little kits come along almost at once. Happy days indeed! Steve

Seemed a pretty decent film to me and a good all round effort. Some of the CGI was quite well done, some a bit over the top, so typical CGI really. The only part that got me, and even the missus commented on this too (so it must have been glaring), was that there was only four (or was it five) blokes on that Horsa? Sure they packed them in a bit tighter than that.

Some great choices there and the Aeroclub Varsity and Anson C19 were two I wanted to include myself. Both waiting patiently in the stash for me to build and very nice looking kits. The Revell Halifax III is another I keep meaning to pick up if only to use the "Vicky the Vicious Virgin" decals that I have kicking around.

This is a fun subject and some great choices so far. It's also a tough one to contemplate as eight kits isn't actually that many if the stash is wildly out of control like mine seems to be. 1: Trumpeter 1/24 Junkers Ju 87A Stuka. Looks lovely in the box, and only Trumpeter would have brought us an Anton in 1/24 in all it's flared trouser spatted U/C glory. One to build for sure! 2: HK 1/48 Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress. Bought instead when I realised just how stupidly big the 1/32 version I picked up actually was. Ten tons of Eduard also bought to add to this puppy. 3: Tamiya 1/32 Supermarine Spitfire Mk XVIe. Picked up to build a rendition of my beloved TD248 that I helped out on back in the 90s. Gorgeous kit. Perhaps almost too gorgeous to even touch! 4: Silver Wings 1/32 Hawker Demon. Absolutely beautiful resin kit of an absolutely beautiful aeroplane. Nuff said. 5: Matchbox 1/72 AW Siskin. Probably the first bi-plane I built as a kid. Love this model and thanks to Matchbox, 10 year old me discovered what an AW Siskin actually was. Fond memories. 6: Airfix 1/72 Piper Cherokee Arrow. Bought by 13 year old me in 1982. Usually only bought things with guns, bombs and naughty things attached. Yet this little kit captivated me. It still does. 7: Heller 1/72 Arado Ar 196A. First ever Heller kit I bought in 1983. Great fit, crisp and finely executed details. Heller was a game changer for 14 year old me. I still love Heller kits. And the non flying thingy curve ball; 8: Italeri 1/24 Ford Transit Mk 2. I love Transits, and wanted the Esci kit for years. £200 on eBay? Not on your Nelly! Thank you Italeri! I now have six to build with shed loads of Motobitz trans-kits. Bliss! Steve

PM me a sensible offer, and see if you can twist my arm Got a couple of mint ones in a Type 5 and 6 box. I bet the Marina did cost a pretty penny Dave! I'd love any of these 1/32 Airfix "Bread and Butter" cars, but I couldn't justify paying hundreds for them. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your financial sacrifices will prompt Airfix to re-issue them I've mentioned this before, but when I was in the trade, I got the annual invite to the Airfix catalogue trade launch were we got to be wined and dined by Hornby and then pre-order all our stock. In the bar the previous evening I got to have a long chat with Darrell Burge and suggested they re-release the 1/32 cars. He didn't think they'd sell and thought it unlikely. I even suggested gift sets and "Classics" boxings, but couldn't sway him. (Then again, he also didn't realise that Airfix had ever boxed an Eagle Transporter) That was a few years ago, and since then, we've had Airfix launch a "Classic" range and we've now seen the Beach Buggy and soon the Jaguar make a re-appearance. Hopefully, we'll see some more IF Airfix think we'll buy Marinas, Maxis and BMC 1100s again. Maybe we should email them and badger them. Steve

I'd happily bag any on that list, especially the 1/32 cars. I think the Vauxhall Victor Estate's moulds were butchered for the "Rebel Rouser" version, so we'll never see the original again. Same for the Capri/"Crackle Cat". Did they do an Allegro? Or did you mean the Marina? I'd take either if they came back out, and as for the Maxi, I'd buy at least three. Upvote for the Capri Mk I 2000, although they can do any mark of Capri and I'd be happy. Can we have a 1/24 Cortina Mk III, IV and V in 1/24 while we're at it? It would sell Dave as me and you would buy them all up even if no one else did! I bet the moulds for that kit are still really good. It didn't exactly get many releases. @IanC I had no idea the G.50s were going for £20 to £30. That seems a bit ridiculous as I've never viewed it as a rare kit. I'm sure I have three in the stash. Steve

I well remember! My Dad had a Maxi that I was allowed to use when I passed my test. In the case of a lost key, door locks and ignition could also by used utilising any item of kitchen cutlery or sometimes even just an extra hard Paddington Bear stare did the trick. Joking aside though, I would love Airfix to re-release the Maxi in the Classics range. Unfortuantely, they don't think it would sell.

Humbrol enamel oil stain wash for the leaks, but the smoke will be sold separately with the 1/32 picket line support set.

I want to see the BMC 1100, Austin Maxi and Morris Marina released as a BMC/Austin/Morris/Leyland gift set emblazoned with British Leyland's "Plughole of Doom" logo. It will come with Glue, brush, pots of specially formulated acrylic beige and baby sick green, a set of stick on Peter Wyngarde side burns and moustache and a facsimile trade union card. I would buy many, many sets if Airfix did this in the Classics range and I could happily re-live my youth of three day weeks, blackouts and piled up rubbish. Think of the diorama possibilities! Either that, or I'll take a re-issue of the Cherokee Arrow, Beaver and Shorts Skyvan. Ta! Steve

Although I don't like the PO charge either, that's not strictly how it works. The government expect Royal Mail to collect the VAT and duty for them, but do not pay them for doing their work. They got involved because they were told to. This of course costs Royal Mail in time and many staff hours, and believe me, it's not a small undertaking by any stretch of the imagination. So Royal Mail are going to pass that cost on to us. Not good for us, but that's the way it is. I say this from the perspective of having worked there.

Hasn't gone un-noticed that Weston is back to it's grey, damp and miserable self today.

Hi Sophie! Welcome aboard! Britmodeller is a great place to be. I like this: "I don’t think my skills are the best, and I often don’t show my finished work off as I think some of the builders out there far outstrip me in skill"....... Then produces photos of a collection of models so good as to make me want to give up and take up knitting instead! Steve.

I've already got one great Broussard to build, but I'll definitely be having this one too! Can't wait. Edit: Forgot to add. Superb news! A type long ignored by the mainstream guys, so fantastic news that another resin Broussard is coming along. I'm still surprised that Heller didn't do one in 1/72. Steve

There is the Fly 1/32 Hurricane kits. Had a couple myself. Everything you need in the box (resin, etch etc) and although it needs some care to build, it's still a lovely kit.

Very true! There were some areas that were beautifully thought out and engineered, and others that left me wondering what they were thinking. However, I really enjoyed improving those areas and adding my own stamp to it. Having said that, I don't think I ever want to re-paint 80 Routemaster seats ever again! Steve
