  1. What are the chances of an ATL-98 conversion for this kit at some point? I'm wondering if I should pick up the Revell C-54 just in case.... Best regards; Steve
  2. I hope Airfix continue to concentrate on 1/24 aircraft. After all, Trumpeter are about the only competitor in the market, and I think the Typhoon showed that Airfix have have the edge in quality by a mile. Airfix shift a lot of 1/24 kits, and not just to the seasoned hobbyist either. I don't think it's quite the niche scale that is imagined and a lot get bought as gifts too. I've said this before, but when I was in the trade, when the 1/24 Mosquito was released close to the Tamiya 1/32 Mk IX Spit we sold three times as many Mossies to Spits in the first two months. 250 Airfix Mossies to 70 Tamiya Spits. I think Airfix are happy to leave 1/32 aircraft to the other manufacturers. I agree with T7. Airfix have brought us some fantastic subject choices over the last few years. I hope they continue to do so with the support of my wallet at least. Best regards; Steve
  3. Does anyone else remember the year at Mildenhall that the C-17 first debuted? The commentator announced that he would hand over to "Major Bender USAF" to talk us through the display. The crowd around me hushed slightly. There then followed lots of sniggering. Best regards; Steve
  4. I can understand HK asking what we want, so hopefully they can give us what we would like to see on the Lanc. After all, it doesn't seem that long ago that any sort of raised surface detail was howled at, and everything had to be recessed...including rivets. This seems to have fallen out of favour now. I'm all for as close as possible to what is found on any real aircraft..so if it has rows of mushroom rivets, let's have them! As Work in Progress says, the old Revell P-40 shows what could be done over 40 years ago. Best regards; Steve
  5. I've often wondered the same about the Airfix Modern Car Series. There just doesn't seem to be many around at all...did they not sell well first time around? Regards; Steve
  6. Ah! The Austin Maxi! My Dad had one too...in the other colour BL loved then...orange! Was the first car I drove after passing my test. My parents went away that weekend and he said I could borrow it just for work....I must have put a couple of hundred miles on it that weekend! Nice roomy car...terrible gearbox! If only Airfix would re-release theirs! Best regards; Steve
  7. I've already commented on this in vehicle discussion but... THE 1/24 TRANSIT!! I'm sooooo pleased to see the Transit back having missed it thirty odd years ago and not wanting to pay the £100-£200 on Ebay for them. I've wanted one, just not that much! Is there a release date for it? I will want at least three and must build the Mk2 I used to whizz around in for Royal Mail in the late 1980s. I'm far too excited about a plastic Transit when I should use the money to fix my real one! Best regards; Steve
  8. I am sooooooooo pleased to see this back! I have been wanting one of these for years, but refused to pay the £100 - £200 prices it was fetching on Ebay. I will be buying several! When I was the buyer for Midland Counties, I suggested to the Italeri rep that they re-released the Transit. Maybe I sewed a seed! Regards; Steve
  9. Ok! I give up! I don't expect Revell to release a 1/32 Dornier 17Z anymore....anyone else up for the challenge? Overall, a pretty dull first quarter release schedule. It's not as if half of these are Revell kits anyway! Nice to see the old Matchbox Twotter again though.. Regards; Steve
  10. Hi All; Dragging up an old thread I know, but were there ever any further developments concerning the Humbrol Luftwaffe paints? Has the quality improved at all? I haven't bought any since myself as the promise of replacements for my paints hit the buffers. I never heard anything back from Humbrol! Regards; Steve
  11. Sorry...I can't help with the colours, but I used to know someone that was there that day. His name was Les Sayer and he was a top bloke. Sadly missed! http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/71204/Hero-who-crippled-the-Bismarck-dies-aged-93 Best regards; Steve
  12. I would second the Trumpeter Hurricane...it's a lovely kit!! Regards; Steve
  13. That is good news...a Yak 3 will be a welcome addition to 1/32 scale! Quick question! How similar is the Yak 3 wing to the Yak 11 wing? Were they the same? Regards; Steve
  14. Still wanting a 1/32 Dornier 17Z so I can complete my trio of Luftwaffe Battle of Britain models. I'm not holding my breath though. Regards; Steve
  15. Hi John; I must admit that I thought of buying a second kit too...I just can't remember what the final price of the kit is going to be! Must go and have a look.. Regards; Steve
  16. Hi! Does this help at all? http://spitfirespares.co.uk/Website%20products%20259/MKI%20Spit%20cockpit.jpg http://spitfiresite.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/spitfire-mk-ii-cockpit.jpg http://spitfiresite.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/spitfire-mk-ii-cockpit-2.jpg I find it interesting that this early cockpit has the flare rack fitted. I was led to believe that these were fitted later. Regards; Steve
  17. Hi Dave; The prop was a bit of a cheat. I've got a spare Trumpeter Spitfire floatplane, so I robbed the propeller from that! If I hadn't had that kicking around, I would have gone the old Airfix magazine conversion route and built up a Mk I spinner and carved some new blades. Regards; Steve
  18. It can be done, but there is a heck of a lot of work to do. You just need a good set of plans and a fearless approach to hacking up a perfectly good model! The wings and fuselage need a lot of work, but everything is possible and not outside of the skills of the average modeller. Airfix produced an annual many moons ago called "Aircraft Modellers" that had a Mk IX conversion article. The ISBN is 978-0850592948. I found it quite useful. I currently have a conversion on the go, and I am enjoying it immensely! I'm actually considering going further and converting it to a low back Mk XVI. It's not a great photo, but this is where I am at the moment... Best regards; Steve
  19. Hi Simon! I hope we get the full orchestra too! I really want a 1/32 scale Blenheim in my collection of Battle of Britain aircraft...almost as much as a 1/32 Dornier 17Z! I think your idea of an conversion set for a Mk I is a good one and may be a more cost effective route, but at the projected price, I would buy a full Mk IV and a Mk I kit. It would be just too much to resist. I do wish Benoit all the very best with this project and I feel comfortable paying up front to get it. It's a good solid subject choice with many colour scheme options...it has to be a winner surely? Best regards; Steve
  20. Simon, I couldn't have put it better myself...which is why I paid my deposit for this kit. And if he does a Mk I Blenheim, I'll buy that too! Regards; Steve
  21. I'd like to see more of the 1/32 "modern" car series re-released. Have you seen the prices they fetch on Ebay!!! Regards; Steve
  22. Yes! I thoroughly recommend this book too! I've probably got almost every book written about the Battle of Britain and out of all of them, I have three firm favourites. Most Dangerous Enemy, Battle of Britain Then and Now, and Alfred Price's superb 18th August: The Hardest Day. Buy with confidence. Best regards; Steve
  23. Dave; Biggest mistake Ian Allan made closing down MCP, and that was subsequently admitted at board level. It's been four years since my redundancy and I still miss that job every day, but I'm thankful for having it for the eight years that I was there. I don't think that Ian Allan realised just what a loyal customer base they had. Regards; Steve
  24. I was the aviation buyer (books and kits) at Midland Counties. From a book point of view, most samples ended up in piles around the office, but they were also used for the cataloging and marketing side of things as well as competitions. They were also useful to have at hand for customer enquiries. Admittedly, one or two caught my eye and if I asked the boss nicely...well, they're still on my shelf! Never got model kit samples though as it wasn't really necessary for our purposes. How I miss that job! Regards; Steve
  25. I don't think it will jam up HK too much, well not from my perspective anyhoo, as it's a B.Mk IV that I'm after. If HK release some later bomber variants, then I think they will get a fair share of the sales. I prefer the bomber variant myself, and find the variety of colour schemes available to the Fb variants a little dull. Just my opinion of course. Happy days for large scale Mosquito fans though! Regards; Steve
