  1. Hopefully one will be available soon for him to review hands on. This could be nice for some flight simmers who are traveling and have the game on laptop?
  2. Here is a video breakdown list like the pdf linked above. One thing I will mention about the vkb gladiator is that the twist axis is a V grove/notch. Twist it and the handle rises a bit. Some pple dont like it. But at that price point it is hard to beat.
  3. Have you got a joystick/throttle? If not, this is a good break down. Regrettably the more affordable low end of the market does not seem to be well served. Reliability of the cheaper sticks does not look to be good over time. The pilots guide to gear. A link to a PDF. How large is your storage SSD? Just in DCS(and I dont have everything, I am at 165GB) Ad Il-2 sturmovik, IL-2 1946 and I am now considering a 2tb SSD. Get head tracking. You can get cheap and or free head tracking. I made a post on it. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235116771-possibly-easier-cheaper-head-tracking/ The following is just my opinion: DCS Study level. Learn the switches, some love it, others are meh. You can d/l the game free and use certain mods like the A-4 which is very well done for free. There are other free mods as well. You can practice with the Su-25. There are missions you can D/L iirc. If you get the openbeta version of the game, you can try 1 aircraft/map every 2 weeks for free. Then wait 6 months till it comes around again. The game comes with a section of the Caucasus and a Marianas map. Not MSFS level. Persian gulf map has a lot of detail, so it is hardware demanding from what I have read. Purchases: Can be expensive. But your first purchase you get a 50% discount. So consider what you want. Super Carrier? F-18? F-16? F-14? etc etc? WWII fighters? Even at 50% off it totals up quickly. They do a 50% off sale on a number of modules every few months. I think DCS is looking more into WWII, but right now, imho, WWII is not great. I think it will get better in time though. HARDWARE: They are trying to institute the Vulkan game engine and Multithreading. Hopefully soon. I hope that both will help. They should. With the current game engine, a friend of mine who has an Acer laptop with 8750h cpu and a crap 2gb gpu gets ok performance. He bumped the ram to 32 gb. He gets 30-45 fps depending on graphics settings and aircraft #'s in single player only. My desktop being very old at best gives me 15 to 20 fps depending on settings. There are videos on yt of ppl trying DCS with laptops. IL-2 Sturmovik. You buy maps/Area of operations which have the correct aircraft for that area/time period. Older maps cost less, but newer maps can be around 70-80 dollars. You can buy collector aircraft and fly them as you will. I would suggest waiting for the sales on the older maps. Older maps look to me to be Stalingrad etc etc. I prefer the Western myself. The dev team have announced that while they are supporting the current version of the game, that they have a new major project coming. No one knows what this means for the current game. Is it a new game/engine completely? Is it the pacific? My buddy with the laptop can get about 58 fps if he turns certain things like shadows/clouds down. IL-2 1946 If you don't mind older graphics you can get IL-2 1946 from Steam for oh $10. Now, if you dont mind unofficial mods, you have 2 paths. The BAT mod on the SAS1946 site lets you fly from WW1 up to the the F-18/F-16/F-14. Completely accurate? no, but it is a large mod with many aircraft/ships etc. There is another branch that is being used for online multi player play. Example of the graphics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jBv02JmLbI F-16 Falcon BMS. Older graphics, but actively being upgraded. Another $10 purchase and you have another study level sim. I know nothing about warthunder. Hope this helps. I am sure that others will chime in with advice.
  4. A number of people feel that the flight model on this is wrong. I think that it needs refinement. Hopefully the folks at VSN will rework the FM a bit. I have found a number of procedures on my internet wanderings and can post them here if anyone is interested. 60 Second bombing tutorial:
  5. 2:28 looks nice to me. I know HeatBlur will release a great paid module, but if $ is an issue, the folks over at VSN have done nice work here for us.
  6. They should sell that helmet. It is a hoot.
  7. Looks better all the time. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/288121-project-lancaster/?do=findComment&comment=5118256
  8. Could be interesting as a science project for the youngsters? I had a 3 foot wide iron asteroid and it exploded 19 miles up. It also estimates damages beyond the initial impact. Have fun? https://neal.fun/asteroid-launcher/
  9. If you still have room on your SSD, looks like more improvements and VR support are imminent. Looks like they are really improving this. Be sure to get the right version of Falcon. I believe you need Falcon 4.0 for for BMS. If you get the Falcon collection, this link should help, but read carefully! https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/6808/gog-falcon4-to-bms-for-dummies This link on reddit gives you information on what to get and set up. https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/qjl41c/bms_is_easier_to_use_than_ever_if_you_havent/ Various setup videos here. https://www.youtube.com/c/AviationPlus
  10. 1 hour plus. Sorry if already posted.
  11. Necropost. I see that these are in stock. Hope that whoever wanted one can get it.
  12. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/this-is-the-b-21-raider-stealth-bomber
  13. I trust that they will fix this. An annoyance to be sure, but at least you can still keep flying.
  14. Very nice piece of kit. I read a few posts: Make sure that you have the most current software Uninstall and reinstall driver. When reinstalling untick the box that says USB Filter Sometimes giving your brain time to think on things is the best. Good luck, hope that you get it working.
  15. Wonder if this would be a good seller for the aftermarket 1/72 & 1/48? https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/a-10s-train-with-air-launched-decoys-alongside-b-1b-bombers Edit: Did not seem to garner much enthusiasm in the comments. I know, never read the comments. Guess it would only makes sense for the aftermarket folks if the USAF adopts the program? Though you can hang 4 on an F-16. Hmm.
  16. Spitfire taking on a V-1. Wing tipping is being worked on(I hope)
  17. Sorry to hear of the OS issues and the customs handling fee. Wonder why the OS install didnt take? Is your SSD/HDD ok? From what I have read and experienced myself that's about the norm. Years ago I ordered some components from the states. Nothing expensive. By the time the carrier got done, their fee was close to the price of my order. I was not happy. That CM3 looks to be great and I am looking forward to hearing about it. Edit: typo
  18. Just saw this, thought I would pass the request along. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/288121-project-lancaster/?do=findComment&comment=5073475
  19. I just saw this easy diy sollution in this thread. Spray paint it black, use a gimbal weight(s) to make it look better. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/291222-making-a-collective-damper-system-for-virpil-rotor-base/?do=findComment&comment=4996649 Cat not included in this one. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/291222-making-a-collective-damper-system-for-virpil-rotor-base/?do=findComment&comment=4888898 That Virpil stick with the adjustable cams from the outside? Yes, that is lovely.
  20. I hope you do not mind me sticking my nose into another of your threads. I came across this aftermarket item on reddit. A counterweight. https://www.etsy.com/LaserWing/listing/1271733962/counterweight-bracket-for-virpil Have you looked at nyogel 767A? Best of luck with the additions and I would be happy to see pics of your setup.
  21. Ooof no time compression is a mistake IMHO. Who has time to fly 12 hours if you have a family or any type of responsibilities outside of the game? If you had a family, you would need the most understand partner ever.
  22. I am sorry to hear about your injury. I use the curves in opentrack to give my in game view full motion. I.E. 5-10 degree of IRL motion gives me 90 degrees pitch in game. 10 Degrees looking left or right IRL gives me 110-120 degrees in game. I've read that some vr sets have eye tracking? Maybe time for a new HMD? There is also tobii eye tracking. Some have managed to make it work, others have struggled. Bit expensive for my tastes. Skip to 13 seconds. D
  23. Thanks for the update. I hope that he is ok and has a good landing somewhere else.
