  1. FANTASTIC model! 🍺  Really, that is a beautifully done scale model; perfectly weathered to my tastes and so well done.   I guarantee you that if you placed that model on a suitable base, at an actual airport/airbase setting, it would certainly look like the real deal!   Great scale modeling!! :worthy::worthy::worthy:

I'm slowly catching up on your builds here Gary 😉

that's a good looking Dora there in a nicely painted scheme. Sounds like you went the extra mile to bring her up to spec which was time well spent from where I'm sitting.

    Thanks for sharing,

    cheers Greg 👍

That's great Greg, I'm really happy that you're checking them out! :worthy: Thanks on the Dora mate!  I did put a lot of work into a kit that sure did need it too.  In the end,  think it does look the part.   I appreciate your kinds words a lot. 😀

Well, for an "unbuildable dog" that's turned out to be a very convincing representation of a Dora - Bravo!

Nice work and the extra touches you have made have certainly added to the overall.

    Nice work.

Maybe unbuildable was too strong a term, lol. 🙂 For many modelers, a better term might be "undesirable". 😉 There are a lot of much nicer kits out there I know, and I even have one of the Eduard 190Ds to build someday.  But once I started this old dog, it did become a challenge to myself to see if I could make it presentable.  I appreciate your kind words too Rick! 🍺  And the best to you as well!! 😀

    Cool,

Amother Monogram classic. I'm not really a fan of jets but the 1950's and 60's stuff is quite appealling as modelling subjects.

Once again very well photographed and presented Gary.

    Thanks for sharing 🍺 Greg

Thanks so much Greg! 🍻  As a child of the '50s and '60s,  I guess I have a built in attraction to those birds.   I can remember zooming toy versions of the Panther, F-5, F-100 and Crusader around the yard and my room as a kid.   There's a romance and appeal to those early jets that I just don't feel in their modern day counterparts, as cool as they might be in their own right!

An excellent build of a classic 50's jet and a classic Monogram kit! Just imagine what they could have turned out if they had stayed in business, as their "old" kits are still the class of the field in many instances. Sigh...if they had only done a dash 5 in 1/72 scale!. Thanks for sharing your build with us- well done!

    Mike

Thank you Mike! :worthy: You are so right, Monogram did produce some classic kits and many are still considered the standard for their scale and type.  Their accurate shapes can be seen in models as early as their 1/48 Spitfire Mk IX and Dauntless kits.  Both of those were designed by Bill Koster, I've been told.   And both of which we may see here on the forum before too long...😉

    Great result Gary 👍

I enjoy seeing these golden oldies built up rather than languishing in the stash. Makes me want to start my old Monogram kit 😀

    cheers Greg

Thanks very much GREG! 🍺  Yeah, these old kits just take a bit of TLC and determination to turn out good four -footers. Hey, get that old kit dusted off and see what happens; just might find a jewel inside?!!?   Thanks again my friend!  😀

That turned out very well for a..................Hobbycraft. I've got six under my belt with three more in the stash and one in the "may never be completed". I swear most of the builds contain more filler than plastic

Yeah, those Hobbycraft kits can be hit or miss; mostly miss, lol.  I've done the 1/48 Hobbycraft Hawker Sea Fury and it's not a bad kit.   I'll get it posted here too sooner or later.😉  Thanks for your comments!🍺

Really good build Gary. Well made for a Hobby craft kit. The black paint work is well done. Thanks for the tips on that. I have several to do in the not too distant future.

I appreciate that Greg!  Thanks so much.  Black is sort of tricky but you'll make good work of it I'm sure!  😀

    Excellent finish,looks great.

Many thanks steve!  Appreciate that! 🍺

  7. It was started in 2014.   After getting about 1/3 finished, I sat her aside for another project.    In early 2017, I resumed work on the model and around the end of February, I took her out to the Cameron airport for a photo session. I messed up the stretched sprue radio aerial loading the model up for the ride out there and just managed to get it back in some sort of shape, of course never as good as previously though. (Go figure…😐)

It’s painted with Testors 1/4oz. square bottle flat black, and faded with Humbrol dark gray 32 mostly, as well as a few other grays. I tried out a bit of oil-paint dot filtering on the lower engine cowls but the 45 year-old oil-paint and my lack of experience didn’t help.🤦‍♂️ The exhaust staining is Model Master intermediate blue, dirtied with pastel chalks. As always, I used my Paasche Model H, powered by CO2, for the airbrushing. I drybrushed the paint damage with Humbrol MetalCote unpolished aluminum and used a silver pencil here and there. The cockpit barely shows so I made seatbelts/harnesses from tape with home-made lead-wire buckles. The exhaust flame shields were made from Evergreen sheet.

Let’s see, gun barrels and exhausts were drilled, and tires sanded for a change, 😉. Lead wire brake lines were added with furnace tape clamps. I sanded down the wing light “lenses” and carved out a concave lens with my motor tool, filling that with silver. Overall, she turned out a pretty fair “four-footer” and looks good with her RAF warbird mates and sister Hawker planes in the display. But please, no more Hobbycraft kits for a while😜

  8. That's a great looking biplane Andy!  👍Thanks for sharing it with us!  Troy has given some great advice and suggestions too.  Have you access to an airport by any chance?  The environs there make for an interesting and appropriate background.  Here's my Hurricane at our local airport.😀
