  1. Weren't they for squadrons using the 8,000 and 12,000lb HC Cookies as well?
  2. A bit of work on the office as there isn't much detail in the second moulding! Navigator/wireless operators table and chairs are made of card. Bits of sprue are used for other bits.
  3. Excellent, thanks very much. There appears to be evidence of a small tripod for the Jack staff in one picture I have seen but this is barely taller than the railings. At least it saves yet more brittle things from snapping off 😁
  4. Thanks, I normally stick with aircraft too but I'm really enjoying the recent efforts at ships! 😁 Plenty of time for it all to go horribly wrong yet though...🥴
  5. A bit of a question for those that are more knowledgeable about warships than I (most on here I should imagine); I have noticed that in most photos of KGV and other ships when underway, they don't appear to have the jack staff or ensign staff fitted. From what I can make out there is a tripod for both but I am assuming that the staff has been removed and that they are only fitted when in port/not at battle stations?
  6. I have started on the masts...blimey, are they fragile 😳...and the amount of rigging on this thing is astronomical...I might just see if I can train a spider to run about on the masts!...Plus there are the cranes to rig!
  7. I have a couple of sets of the Brengun two stage kits for use on Tamiya MK IVs plus Blackbird's bulged bomb bay door set and 100 gallon drop tanks and, Pavla's bomb bay interior resin set with a Paragon canopy... Roll on a B XVI 😄
  8. A bit more, most superstructure fitted now. The masts, scratch built radar and rigging to do before I fit the deck to the hull.
  9. It's a funny old world this modelling lark!
  10. Might have something, Mosquito B XVI, on the last bombing run of the war on the night of 2nd/3rd May...a bit of controversy here as well. 'Common' knowledge has it as 608 Sqn bombing Kiel with 4,000lb cookies whereas there is info for 105 and 109 mosquito sqns that went on to Eggeberg after marking Kiel to drop cookies there! Apparently the Eggeberg bombs were dropped (at 00:54) after the Kiel bombs by 20 minutes!
  11. Damn! September 28th 1945! I'll have to think of something else...it's quite a challenge to find something a bit different...that I have in the stash 😁
  12. I have not long finished an Airfix 2F.1 Camel...more rigging than HMS Victory!
  13. Ok Wez, I'll try and think of some other weird wonder! I did find more info though, there were no B35s delivered to 627 sqn although apparently they were built but stored at 27 MU I believe. More interesting info though, on a Lanc that was used to transport ex POWs back from Germany! Listed here, fascinating reading! http://www.627squadron.co.uk/afs-bookpartIII-LincolnsorMossies.html
  14. I'd say That Royal Navy Air Squadron speaks for itself!...I was contemplating a Flying boat but missed RNAS by a few months by going to RAF!
  15. Ooooh, I particularly like the idea of the Albatros!
  16. Are aircraft planned for but not necessarily built at the time allowed? I'm thinking of a D.H. Mosquito B35 with H2S. These were planned as part of the Tiger Force Pathfinder Squadron. H2S had been tested at RAF Defford on a BXVI Order of Battle, 26th July 1945 planned for 553 Wing to include 627 Squadron flying such aircraft (B35s). 'Standard' Tiger Force colours of White upper surfaces and glossy black undersides would be order of the day! B XVI with H2S fitted, courtesy of Imperial War Museum.
  17. All that ordnance was why I bought one back in the 70s 😄
  18. Do you have the Airfix Nelson to Rodney conversion article? Google "airfix nelson to rodney conversion" and it comes up as a PDF! There are some quite useful hints and tips including the number and positions of Carley floats...during 1944 so spot on for your build!
  19. Assembling sub-assemblies now, it's starting to get a bit ship-like. All of the deck furniture here including the anchor chain is cast on...beautifully detailed...but a pig to paint! The deck isn't glued to the hull yet.
  20. Thanks guys. It's a very detailed kit with lots of tiny bits but it's not a difficult kit to build as it's so well produced.
  21. It is a bit pretty I have to admit!
  22. It will be Mk VII but not in French colours unfortunately, I just used that picture as I couldn't find one of Mk VII with bulged bomb bays at the time...sorry!
  23. I do have a drawing (artistic) of a B Mk II with and H2S dome fitted but this was again, from Defford so probably experimental...Serial no. was LL736!
  24. I painted the wooden areas with Tamiya khaki XF49 and then a couple of washes of artists acrylic burnt umber to try and give a stained mahogany colour...topped with a light gloss coat. The hulls of the admiral's barges are Tamiya gloss blue X4 and white XF2 on the cabin roof and below the waterline again with a light gloss finish. The other boats all have 507A hulls. I must admit to using some quite powerful magnifying aids 😁
