  1. Interestingly, the L.34 was commanded by Kapitänleutnant Max Dietrich, who was apparently the favorite uncle of Marlene Dietrich. Quite a lot of the L.34 was washed ashore, along with many of the bodies of the crew. I have been trying to obtain a small part of this airship for a few years now, sadly without success so far. Thanks for trying to translate what the General was trying to say, I think he has been around @corsaircorp too much. Still,if you are wrong there is always Bletchley Park that his Generalship is always banging on about. From the somewhat garbled post, am I to take it that you like it? and more worryingly, are you turning into CC? Vary concerned of Mars 👽
  2. Thanks Loren, the pictures I have of the L.59 show her in darkish colours and in the absence of any colour pictures I mixed up a dark tan as being a logical choice for the mission for which she was specially built. Martian 👽
  3. Thank you. The model is fractionally over 12inches long. Martian 👽
  4. Finished this morning, my rendition of the L.59,known as Das Afrika Schiff due to the purpose for which she was build; to re-supply General Paul Vorbck-Lettow's forces that were fighting the British in East Africa. Model is from two Mark 1 Models R Class Zeppelins with a section from one added to the hull of the other to give the correct length. Thanks for looking. Martian 👽
  5. Finished this morning and for @general melchett's impatient perusal in particular, Das Afrika Schiff L.59. as camouflaged ship next methinks, more specifically the P Class, L.11 as I have a complete set of pictures from the Bundesarchiv showing this particular ship from all angles. Given the number of pictures taken of her at the same time, I suspect that she was trialing a new camouflage scheme. Thanks for looking, more pictures in RFI. Martian 👽
  6. Any shrink that has the General and his entourage as clients must be madder than they are and should be treated with the utmost suspicion. Thank you kind Earthling. Try telling that to Mrs Martian and see what happens! Martian 👽
  7. Yes @Pete in Lincs, @LorenSharp, and @Galligraphics, I need my head testing. I am sorry to have to inform you that it has recently been tested and the shrink gave up on me. Wibble! Bonkers of Mars 👽
  8. I had trouble getting to sleep last night and ended up counting the extra parts I added and it came to 309 on this model. I got off to sleep quite quickly after that! Anal of Mars 👽
  9. Thanks Dave, I think I can do better though. Martian 👽
  10. Thanks Loren, I am quite pleased with it but I think I can do better. I have a cunning plan..... My Pleasure Rod. Thanks Mathew, I always feel that not presenting a model as well as one can is spoiling the ship for the proverbial Ha'pence of tar and in this case, the model has to fit in with the others in the Zeppelin display. Thanks HL-10, I don't seem to be able to do mainstream stuff. Maybe one day I will surprise everybody and build a Spitfire! Thanks Toryu, Mrs Martian has agreed to do some close ups in the near future. Martian 👽
  11. Thanks Pete, the real problem I had with the kit was the limited space on the workbench. My room is only 6 x6 feet and the extra couple of inches in length over the Takom P Class meant that I kept knocking the model and damaging it. A camouflaged P Class next methinks. Thanks Beefy, I will see if Mrs Martian can do something, she is far better at close up photography than I am. Thanks Pete. Thanks Rich, the scratch built parts out number the kit ones by over 200. Why do I put myself through this time and again? Martian 👽
  12. The second of the the trio of Zeppelins that I had on the bench crawled over the finishing line last night. For once the rigging fought me all of the way on this one and as soon as I glued one wire in place, another decided to part company with the model; cue multiple alien swear words! Anyway, here is the finished model and thanks for looking. Martian 👽
  13. As promised, the 1/350 Takom Qcumber Class ship, completed as the L.21 crossed the finishing line last night. I think she represents an advance on the other three Takom builds I have done but I still think I can do better. Anyway, by doing things in the following order one can make life a lot easier for oneself: 1. paint and rig the control surfaces off the model, 2. fit and rig the gondolas before adding the tail surfaces at the end of the build and 3. detail and paint the upper gun platform separately from the model, popping it into place when the rest of the model is complete. That's enough of the sensible part, I'm off to put a pencil up each nostril, yes all three of them, put a fresh pair of underpants on my head, put my best tentacle forward take a deep breath and utter a very loud wibble or two before beginning to rig the Afrika Ship. More pictures in RFI. Thanks for looking. Martian 👽
  14. Fret ye not, it won't be happening again any time soon. Hang on a minute, there's the reveal of the completed Qucumber Class looming, wibble! Martian 👽
  15. Thanks Loren, the only thing that is really holding my up is finding a suitable 1/700 hull to adapt for the sailing ship. I very briefly toyed with the idea for doing it in 1/350 scale but then the size of the diorama and the impossibility of transporting it along with the rest of the display dawned on me. I also intend to do a diorama of the "King Stephen Incident"; I think I can get hold of a 3D printed steam drifter that I can adapt so this one if more likely to see the light of day sooner, especially as the subject matter is far more serious. Good grief! Not only a sensible Martian post but a serious one as well! This will not do. I think I need to go and have a long lay down in a very dark room. Hang on, I have just had one! Wibble! Martian 👽
  16. Indeed; I hope to do a diorama of the incident at some point. Martian 👽
  17. I'm not standing for that! Outraged of Mars 👽
  18. Thanks Charlie, the total, including the two still on the bench is fourteen with a few more and a couple of dioramas to go. This will enable me to vary the display so that it won't grow stale. Martian 👽
  19. Beautiful, simply beautiful! Impressed of Mars 👽
  20. I didn't think there would be many of that type following one of my threads but, given today's litigious society, I thought I should play safe and post a warning. Cautious of Mars 👽
