18 03 2012 Hi Guys, quick question: I have AIM-9L Sidewinders, AIM-132 ASRAAM's, IRIS-T, Meteor, AIM-120 AMRAAM's, Storm Shadow's and Taurus from the Revell 1/72 Eurofighter which I built 'clean' with nothing hanging off it. What can I use the above on? Will they go with the Tornado (which mk?) or Harrier (which mark?) Thanks in advance Liam

16 03 2012 So again: can anyone advise what, if any, are the differences between the Avro RJ85 and the BAe 146-200? The blurb on the side of the Revell boxing states that the Avro RJ85 is derived from the BAe 146-200 but does that mean you can build it up AS a BAe146-200 (which I'd like to do)? Thanks in advance Liam

06 02 12 Guys, I am a bit confused about something. I want to model a C-130 J -30 belonging to the USAF with an RS tail-code. I was under the impression ( info I had got from somewhere) that they used the Alison T56 engines. I bought the Italeri 1/72 J and also bought a set of resin engines (T56's) to replace the kits bits as had been told the kit engines are wrong for a J-30. However, looking at pictures, the belly of the nacelles on the -J -30 look deeper than those on the resin T56's. The kit's bits actually look correct as they have a deeper belly than the resin bits. This is on the sprue that also holds the 5-bladed prop. It looks like Italeri molded a new sprue with the bits to make a C-130 J. (I have the bits necessary to make the J-30) Can anyone confirm what engines I should be looking at for the American version ( in case they are different to the RAF version). Should they be AE2100's? Thanks in advance Liam

12 01 2012 Does anyone have or know a link to scale plans for a C-130J-30 please? Much appreciate any help that can be offered. Thanks in advance Liam

09 01 2012 Actually, looking at the link provided by Ed, there is a 'nose-cone' at the front of the Nene, but this is not included in the Aires resin kit of the engine. Do you think a modified Hurricane or Spitfire spinner would work in it's place? The drawing doesn't give a clear indication of how this looked from the front though. I don't imagine that there are fan blades in there behind the 'spinner' so, how did it connect to the engine. Liam

09 01 12 Ed, that's exactly what I was looking for. I have said it before and I'll say it again: there's no forum like Britmodeller for help, friendship and just all round brilliant-ness. @ Work in Progress and Edgar: Thanks guys, very much appreciated. That's the machine I'll be hoping to make and I found some lovely images on Airliners.net as well for reference purposes. I had read elsewhere on this forum that someone had modelled this machine and had written an article about it for one of the model mags many years ago and that they had used the fuselages of 2 Gloster Whittles to form the body of the nacelles. I managed to get two of these at Telford, as well a 1/72 Nene engine (obviously, I need another). The only this I wasn't sure of was where, inside the nacelle, the engine was actually placed. Thanks guys for clearing that up for me. Liam

09 01 2012 Hi guys. I am thinking of building a Lancasterian Nene-engined test-bed and have found some lovely images online to help. Now, it's difficult to see exactly where the engine was palced within the fairing that housed it ... did the powerplant sit in the middle of the fairing ( directly under the Lanc's wing) or was it the the same length as the fairing? I don't know if I am asking this correctly. Can anyone point me to a drawing of how the powerplant was placed within the fairing when attached to the wing of the Lanc? Something maybe like those breakaway drawings you see in the likes of Aeroplane monthly or Flypast Datafile articles? I know it's a long-shot, but any help would be appreciated. Liam

07 01 2012 I saw these advertised on Hannants today: http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/VTH48110 and http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/VTH48109 Are there any 1/48 scale kits out there for any of these? Thanks in advance Liam

11 12 11 Hi guys, I am looking for 1/72 scale decals for the Oman Air Force from around the 1970's. I have looked on ebay and there's nothing currently there although I did find an old boxing of the Airfix kit that has Oman Air Force markings in it. Does anyone know if any of the aftermarket fellas have decals suitable for this? I want to model a Strikemaster as used during the famous SAS engagement where nine SAS soldiers ended up in a firefight with a couple a hundred Communist soldiers and had to call in air-support. I think it was around 1972? Any help greatly appreciated. Liam

A Battered Aichi 'Val'
yeehah1 replied to Bertie McBoatface's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
07 12 11 Very nice job on the paint-chipping but the only thing I would say is that it needs a bit of weathering. It looks too clean for a plane that beat up. Even if you only add exhaust stains that kit would jump into life. I just like my airyplanes a bit grubby.. heh heh. Thanks for sharing. That Revell Val is a beautiful kit and I think it's their rebox of the Hasegawa kit. If you see one, lads, pick it up. Liam -
Don't the longer nacelles come with the J kit? What are my options for getting the longer landing gear sponsons? Scratch build? Liam

Thanks for the reply! So, are there any conversion kits out there that will give you the longer landing gear sponsons? Liam

05 12 2011 I just got one of these an was a little disapointed in that it appears to have raised panel lines. For reason, I thought it was a new tool. I was intending to build a J model and it seems to have all the bits, but the booklet that comes with it seems to reference a H model. Does anyone know the pedigree of this kit? Kit number 1255. The booklet also suggests that you can get plugs to extend the fuselage to make a C-130J-30 and a L-100-30. What, other than the stretched fuselage is the difference between the regular J and the -30 in terms, I suppose, of what its' used for? Thanks in advance Liam

24 11 2011 Hi guys. I need to make either a USMC KC-130R/T or a NAVY KC-130. Now I believe the Navy ones are essentially C-130T's without the glass cockpit, so that a C-130H model will do as a basis kit wise. I picked up the Braz 1/144 engine conversion for the Allison engines and the Extra Tech C-130 Cargo compartment, which may not in hindsight work for a tanker version. So, the question is about the props. I know most of the modern fleet have those new twisty-type props and I was thinking of getting the Minicraft H model, unless someone knows of a better 1/144 kit closer to the model I need. Does anyone know of anyone doing the modren prop blades in 1/144? Thanks in advance Liam

Can you remember... and this might be a daft question, but were the Whittle fuselages 1/72 or 1/48? Liam

29 10 2011 No, I hadn't been aware of it but thanks for the heads-up Liam

29 10 2011 I bought Aeroplane monthly this month, the one marking the 70th Anniversary of the Lancaster. On pages 32/33 there's a picture of a Lancastrian with two Rolls-Royce Nene engines. Does anyone have any more information on this? Better yet, is there a kit or resin engine bits that can be bought to kit bash this machine?? Preferably in 1/72? Liam

09 10 2011 Thanks Shaun. I have the wings joined together and attached to the fuselage so too late to drill the holes out. The Xtra decal set ( X32032) lists XX226 as a TI.a. Go figure. Might put the pylons on just for show. Then again, might not.

Thanks again smeds. Which model of sidewinder? Liam (love this website!)
