  1. 25 01 2020 Hi All Just a quickie... in 1/48 can you use the masks meant for the p-40E on a P-40F? Can't seem to get the F masks anymore but loads of E masks out there. Cheer in advance Liam
  2. 12 09 2019 Hi All, I hope this is in the right forum but I was looking for tips on how to paint an Iron Man model, specifically the red. I was wondering what shade or red would be accurate for the armour and how would you get that nice metallic sheen? I would prefer to brush paint this and not airbrush it if at all possible but I would consider aerosols. Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance Liam
  3. 03 07 2019 @Mark Joyce Mark, is it only one (outboard) machine gun removed from each wing? Some sources suggest that that there was only one gun left on each wing. I can't find anything definitive on it. Kit is progressing. Just finished the nose/belly. Moving on to the rest of it. Thanks in advance Liam
  4. 15 04 2019 And the question is : how do you use the masking stickers?? Asking for a friend who loves making these complicated beasts. I have never made an F1 car and I have never seen 'masking stickers' before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Liam
  5. 20 02 2019 Love you guys. Really. @Tail-Dragon: Fantastic photos there. The section immediately behind F and the cowl flaps in the drawing....is that the black 'taped' area in your second photo? Rhanks again fellas. (say it like Scooby) Liam
  6. 18 02 2019 Hi Guys. Thanks for the replies. I have Milliput and will use it and perhaps use the plastcard strips to support it but what I need to see is what the actual shape is that I'm trying to make. The photos I see of the real aircraft of this area tend to be blocked by the gear doors or some such and the model threads on this seem to skirt over the actual work stages where the modeller built the area up and then blended the resin and the plastic. @Mark Joyce: re the wing guns: Yup, I'll be chopping that gun off as soon as I get the belly sorted Thanks! Would anyone care to share please? Liam
  7. 17 02 2019 Evening all. Been awhile since I last posted here but I have a problem and would like some help please. I'm currently building AmTech's 1/48 P-40 F/L as 'Stud'. I decided to use the resin nose as supplied in the kit and it fit okay but I do have a gap on the bottom which is entirely my fault. he problem is I don't know how to blend the resin to the plastic donor kit, if that makes sense. I have the cowl vents ready to attach but cannot for the life of me figure out how to blend hgem together. I know this is probably very simple involving some plasticard and putty but could someone please show me how they resolved this? I'm especially concerned about the 'Nun's Habit' on the belly. Thanks in advance Liam
  8. 14.10.2018 Quick question: Are there any aftermarket decals for this car by any chance? Liam
  9. 11.09.2018 Morning all, okay, so after a bit of a delay while I completed a different model I can now turn my attention fully to this P-40 again. Just finished riveting the plastic and am ready to start assembly. So, I guess the question I now have is: what colour is the seat! I know the later models had an unpainted/ aluminium seat. Would that apply to the seat in 'Stud'. I can't find anything definitve to confirm or deny this. Thanks in advance
  10. 07.08.2018 Hi Everyone I am going to model two Spitfires based on the Tigerhead decal sheet 48019. I will make the one with the yellow tail and the one with the white tail. Now, the sheet says one is a Mk.IXc Spitfire and the other is a Mk, IXe Spitfire. Both have the tall pointy tail and both ( based on some quick google-searches) have clipped wings. Are there any other significant differences? Thanks in advance Liam
  11. 19.03.2018 Thanks for your replies guys. A great help all in all. Pity about the red/white stripes but the white/olive drab looks interesting and I think I will go with that with the Revell F kit, just changing the nose and nose windows. Much appreciated the help Liam
  12. 17 03 2018 Thank You Tony. I went back into the stash and found an old Revell Fortress IIA.... H-213 in Costal Command markings. Didn't know I had one. Apparently, it's an E! Seems basic, lots of rivet detail and it might benefit from some aftermarket. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/193851-revell-h-213-boeing-fortress-iia Thank you for your suggestions Liam
  13. 17.03.2018 and Hi all, I want to make this B-17 'Birmingham Blitzreig'. I have asked this question in the 'Want' section elsewhere but I thought it might be better to ask here. I found this topic on the Britmodeller forum and the modeller, Deacon, eventually used Revell's B-17F to make the B-17 and took the E nose and propellers and put them on the F as he felt they were the main exterior differences. Would this work for an E? I don't need to worry about turrets and guns as they were removed. Any advise greatly appreciated. Liam
  14. Thanks everyone. A lot of food for thought in this. Liam
  15. Hey Artie, Thanks for the great information! I didn't know about the fuel tank so thanks again. I was wondering about the floor of the kit being straight and level as reference I had seen online suggested otherwise. I have the cockpit (such as it is) assembled and painted but the fuel tank idea sounds like a good one. Just need to Google a good reference pic What do you mean by 'under fuselage bump' ? Nice touch of the Irish there Slan abhaile...! Liam
  16. Hi Alan, thanks for the response and the photo. Yup, that makes sense. I also bought a photo-etch set from Eduard and their illustrations of the seat/bulkhead arrangement (which was depicting the placement of the seat belts) also shows the wide gap and nothing joining the the 'poles' to the bulkhead. Okay, I haven't joined the fuselage halves yet, so I'll fashion something to join the frame behind the seat to the bulkhead, We won't mention the fact that I painted the seat interior green. Looks like an aluminium seat in the photo Thanks again Liam
  17. Hey Seawinder, I can't seem to find a suitable resin cockpit for the F. Any suggestions? Liam
  18. Hi Seawinder, Don't you need to use the resin nose to make the Merlin engine machines? I would be interested to see what you did yes please. And thank you. I have one or two other AMtECH p-40's in the stash so any help would be brilliant. Best wishes Liam
  19. 01.01.2017 Hi All, I'm using the Academy 1/48 P-40C to buld a Russian machine and I noticed that the pilot's seat seems to sit a little far forward of the rear bulkhead of the cockpit and seems to leave a gap. Not sure if that's correct? If you look down into the cockpit you can see down behind the pilot's seat and thru to the rear of the aircraft. Any advice? Thanks in advance Liam
  20. 01.01.2017 Hi All, I'm using the Academy 1/48 P-40C to buld a Russian machine and I noticed that the pilot's seat seems to sit a little far forward of the rear bulkhead of the cockpit and seems to leave a gap. 21. 01.01.2018 Hi all Looking for some advice about this. I am going to make Col. R.L. Baseler's P-40F 'Stud' using the AmTech 1/48 P-40 F/L. I love the scheme. I acknowledge that maybe this kit is not the best when compared to modern kits but it's not exactly a dog either and it does come with the necessary decals and a resin nose for the Merlin engine. I found a profile of this machine on page 40 of Histoire & Collections Curtiss P-40 from 1939 to 1945 book. The red tone of the nose seems darker than the decal provided by the kit though. Can anyone advise if there is anything I need to do to improve the finished model please ( other than shipping it into the bin...not going to happen ). Thinking for the usual things like the cockpit etc.... Thanks in advance Liam
  22. Thanks John. That clarifies things greatly. Altogether a lovely kit Liam
  23. 02.12.2017 Hi all. Friend of mine was kind enough to get me the Airfix 1.48 F8 Meteor and it looks like a lovely kit. However upon closer inspection whilst fondling said plastic I noticed something that doesn't quite look right. Take a look at parts5 and 6, the upper wings. There seems to be sink marks present but part no.5 is more pronounced and there seems to be a ribbing-like deformity present as well. My question is whether this ribbing effect is meant to be there and if not how can it be fixed? Also, any chance those rockets could be used with a 1.48 Sea Fury kit?? Have both the Hobbycraft and Trumpeter kits in the stash and they'd look good slung under their wings Thanks in advance Liam
  24. 25.11.2017 Hi everyone. I recently bought AMLA 48001 for Academy's 1/48 P-40B/C : Tomahawk MkII. I have made the flaps without much bother but looking at the instructions and comparing them to the photo-etch fret there seems to be a number of 'extra' bits nos. 20-22. These numbers do not appear on the instruction sheet. Can anyone advise if they are to used at all? I plan to make a Russian P-40 Thanks in advance Liam
