07 07 11 Guys, I bought the 1/32 Eduard seatbelt set for the Revell Hawk and have run into a slight problem. I can't figure out how to attach what I think of as the 'secondary' belts. If you look at the scan of the instruction sheet, I've marked the belts in question with red arrows (not very arrow-like, but you get the idea). I think they both attach to the head rest or to the side of it, with the belt doubled over but I can't quite make out the attachment points. The reason I am confused is that I have pics that show the 'hooked' end of the belt attached to the side of the head rest. It looks as if the belts in the instructions are upside-down? Can anyone clarify this for me please? Also, the long thin straps that seem to attach to the bottom of the seat: are these leg straps? And if so, do you leave them loose if there's no pilot? Do they lie on the floor of the cockpit or up over the seat pan? Thanks in advance, Liam

Hercules question...looking for info on 1/144 kits
yeehah1 replied to yeehah1's topic in Aircraft Modern
04 07 11 Thanks for the replies guys. I will pass the info on to my mate and see what he wants to do. Liam -
03 07 11 A mate of mine is looking for a kit of the Hercules but, as space is at a premium, he's looking at a smaller kit. I know there are kits in 1/144 and that Hasegawa do a nice 1/200 scale one. Thing is, he mentioned something about the US Navy flying them and Hercs coming out of Ramstein??? I know nothing about Hercs and their squadrons, so I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction please? Thanks in advance, Liam

27 06 11 I was in Hendon a little while ago and took some walk-around shots of the Harrier hanging in the same hall as the black Eurofighter. What mark of Harrier is it? I seem to be thinking it's a GR3, but may be wrong. It looks as though they have revamped the place. Loved the Spitfire hanging to on the wall, Spiderman-like, in the reception area. Nicely done. 25 06 11 Ahhhhhhhhh, those were the days. Planning on getting Battlefield 3 once it comes out. I LOVED Battlefield2. Awesome game. As for the F-35, I have picked up one of the Fujimi ones from Rainbow Ten. Apparently, the boxing I have bought comes with a photo-etch fret as well! Lovely. And what markings will I use? Well, the thread below discussing the colors the British F-35 will be in got me thinking....so it's either going to be Rasberry Ripple or Something simialr to the old Sea Fury colors. If I do it as a Raspberry Ripple, I might see if I can write 'The One and Only' or 'There can only be one' down the side. Heh heh. Liam

24 06 11 Does anybody know which model of Dauntless it is meant to represent, please? It's kit number 85-5249 (based on the Luckymodel website catalogue number) http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=RE%2085-5249 Thanks in advance Liam

23 06 11 Needle in a haystack time. Not long after the Revell 1/32 Hawk came out, we all got chatting about the lack of aftermarket resin, which is strange in that it's taken so long for it to happen at all. Now, someone posted a link to a company in the UK that makes resin bits for just about every British jet that served and they have plans for a whole heap of 1/32 stuff for the Revell Hawk. Thing is, I can't remember the site. Think they have an RAF roundel in the logo, but they do everything including Tornados, Lightnings etc etc. You have to scroll down a bit to find the hawk stuff. Anybody know the name of the site? Thanks in advance Liam

Vampire FB3 Scale drawings...are they avialable
yeehah1 replied to yeehah1's topic in Aircraft Cold War
23 06 11 Hi Giorgio. I had a look on ebay and on the Sami website. There's none avialable. Out of stock with Sami. Would you be able to scan the drawings or better yet, photocopy them and send them to me? Or does anyone have a copy of that particular magazine? Liam -
Vampire FB3 Scale drawings...are they avialable
yeehah1 replied to yeehah1's topic in Aircraft Cold War
22 06 11 Hi again Bill. So, the main ( only?) difference between the F3 AND FB5 Vampire are the wing tanks? I was able to download that book. All the side profiles are in 1/72? Thanks again for the help. I want to compare the Hobbycraft F3's I bought with some drawings to see how badly they differ. Might consider attempting to put them right. Liam -
Vampire FB3 Scale drawings...are they avialable

22 06 11 Hi Bill. Thanks mate. We seem to be crossing each others path a bit more regular these days! How are things with you? Liam -
21 06 11 Does anyone know where I might get some scale drawings for the Vampire FB3, preferably in 1/48 and a three view? Thanks in advance Liam

21 06 11 This may be a dumb question, but rather than make the assumption..I'll ask it anyways: When you varnished your model, did you gloss it or matt it? And if you gloss varnished it, how long did you leave it to dry/harden? If you matt coted it first, that might be why the decals stuck in place and wouldn't move. You have to gloss coat the model first, let it dry/harden for about 24 hrs and then apply your decals. Follow the steps the others have mentioned and be very, very gentle with the decals when placing them. I find sometimes it may help to run a blob of water from where you actually want the decal to be palced to where the decalactually ended up being placed. It'll help you 'glide' the decal into place. Once it's where you want it, take a piece of kitchen towel, fold it few times and dampen it, then dab or whick the excess water away. the decal should snuggle down beautifully. You can then put some micro-set over it with a soft brush ( try not to touch the decal with the brush). Alternatively, try using Johnston Klear ( get the old formula if you can) It works as well as the micro-set/ microsol. Once the decal is in place and settled, leave it be until dry. If it crinkles up a bit, give it some time to begin to dry and, working from the centre out to the edge, smooth the wrinkles with the damp wad of kitchen towel. You need to be VERY careful doing this. You have to time it right, decal can't be too wet nor totally dry and you need a gentle touch with this. One other thing, who did the decals? Kit manufacturer? Aftermarket? Where they old decals or reasonably new? Anyways, hope this helps. Liam

where can I get clear styrene to heat and smash-vac?
yeehah1 replied to yeehah1's topic in Scratchbuilding
20 06 11 Thanks for the reply guys. But to be clear, what I want to do is NOT vac-forming as such. I don't have the means to do that. What I intend to do is to heat the plastic and then thump it down over a master I have created, hopefully making the canopy I need. I have a tiny section of the stuff Squadron used to sell ( donated by a mate .. the last of his stockpile) and am looking for more or similar in case I make a muck of it. I never thought of the clear front of cd jewel cases. That's the clear plastic front of the hard cases, right? Not the floppy see-through envelope types? Hmmmmm. Liam -
18 06 11 Guys, I was hoping you might be able to advise me on this but I am looking for clear styrene that I can heat and smash-vac ( or plunge-vac) to make a canopy for a rather over-sized model I am making. I know the Squadron stuff is no longer produced but I was hoping someone could recomend something similar that I could use. Thanks in advance Liam

16 06 11 Guys, Can anybody tell me if there is anyone out there doing Vampires F mk 3's in 1/48 other than Hobbycraft? I am reliably informed that they are a bad kit. Thanks in advance Liam

16 06 11 Andy, That's fantastic, thanks for the information. I guess I need a couple of -5's then. The schemes are terrific. You should check out the Vampires .... http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AZD4841 Thanks again Liam

Thanks Andy, have amended my post accordingly. (told you I was confused)

16 06 11 Hi guys. I need a little help here please. I recently bought Aztec Models decals sheet 48- 040 for the A-24 Banshee which apparently were the Army version of the Navy's SBD-5. Now, I had read somewhere that the Dauntless/Banshees sold to Mexico where SBD-3's, so I am a bit confused. And, I just got my hands on two SBD-3 kits to use with these gorgeous decals. My question is : what are the differences between SBD-3 and SDB -5 and was there any major differences between the Army and Navy version of the Dauntless? Thanks in advance, Liam

16 06 11 Does anyone have good shots of the lap belts and how they connect please? I am making one of Revell's 1/32 Hawks and would like to detail the seats a little bit. Thanks in advance Liam

31 05 11 Would the sidewinder rails be the top two of these? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TMW3202-1-32-Resin-W...=item1c1c25f8b0 Thanks in advance Liam

31 05 11 Would 74 Squadron have carried any of these, being a part of the Flying Training School? Was thinking of getting the pylons, but unsure about the Lau-7's. Liam

30 05 11 It helps, but also contradicts what I was told elsewhere on this forum, which is why I was looking for that color in the first place. I prefer to use acrylic paint rather than enamels. I'm making one of the gloss black hawks (and I recently picked up an old Italeri kit with marking for the Demonstrator with a very unusual color scheme...it looks for a color called 'wood'. Eh??) which is why I asked for confirmation in the first place. Thanks very much for the pointing in the right direction. Liam
