  1. Well said, You're right, it would be a silly to skip brush painting alltogether. I'll just rewatch some video's with tips on how to layer thin enough to avoid brush strokes, thanks!
  2. I have the Revell Aqua paint lying around, however on my spitfire I can see a lot of brush strokes. I thinned it with a drop of water but still. Is the quality of the brush important? Can you recommend some brushes that will aid in not having stripes? Thank you! Thanks for the tip! That would mean I would have to find a spray can that matches somewhat the Revell color, right?
  3. I have this Boeing 777 (1:144), which I'm about to start but I'm a little worried about the hull that needs a big shape of blue color There's a masking paper cutout available but how do i fix it in place on the model without paint crawling under it? Since it's not adhesive.. Side note: I'm in doubt to buy an airbrush since I don't like brush strokes (which my first model has plenty of) I just don't have 150 euro's lying around to spend on it at the moment.
  4. Thanks for your reply, I'm in serious doubt as to move on to airbrush or not, the only thing stopping me is the cost, at the moment. Is there a big learning curve with airbrushes? Since with normal brushes there's the brush brand, types of hair, thinning of paint, but I guess these technicalities will be around with airbrushing as well. How does the airbrush learning curve compare to brush painting? I'm using Revell Aqua paints at the moment. It's my first kit so just went with what the store offered me.
  5. I'm very new to the scene, so I only bought the needed paints, and micro set. Now I see a lot of brush strokes, stripes and finger prints on the hull of my poor spitfire. Does a model need a coating of some sort after painting? My silver grey also looks very un-silvery is that also something that a coat can solve?
  6. This is my first ever model, didn't want to spend too much money on it for now. So I only have the Revell Aqua paints, no primer whatsoever. Is there a big difference with a primer? There's so much to know and to learn in this hobby.
  7. I'm using a Brush! I'll see if I can order some Tamiya tape, using cheap diy store tape at the moment, the edges are a bit rough.
  8. Freehand would work, but in general it would need multiple layers, right? So you would have to go over it a second or third time, and follow the exact same pattern? Without going outside the borders, isn't that difficult with a freestyle hand brush?
  9. Thanks, So you wouldn't first paint everything gray? And then paint the green over it? Since if the mask isn't a 100% correct I'll have gaps where there's no paint, right?
  10. Hi Guys, I'm on the verge of painting the following small piece of camo on the nose of my Spitfire. Now I'm wondering how I should do the curves? Should I start with putting down a base of the lightest color? Then try masking it off and painting the darker side?
  11. @Ratch Amazing guide! thank you, I haven't used Klear, what does it do? Does it improve the visuals of the part?
  12. Thanks for that, I suppose tamiya tape is better than my cheap diy store tape for cutting out complex masks? I'll order some online.
  13. Hi Everyone, I'm wondering how I should paint the following piece(s), it's the cockpit window for a Spitfire. How do people generally tackle this?
  14. You're right I'm sorry, I haven't had time to look at my model and while I did see you reaction I still have to read them. I have read the book a few months ago. Very good read, didn't read much about online gratefulness but I'm sure it's in there somewhere.
  15. Thanks for all the advice everyone, that tape tip is a really good idea! I underestimated the amount of putty that is needed to fill all the small gaps. It's almost as much work, if not more then the whole paint job in itself.
  16. Strange things happening with my Revell. I need part G179 (see screenshot) but it doesn't exist, they even admit it in the legend.. now what?
  17. Hi everybody, I'm wondering if I should close this gap or not? What do you guys think? It's a Revell Spitfire Mk.IV 1/32.
  18. Right, sorry about that, It's the Revell 1/32 Spitfire MK.IV and I'm using Revell Aqua paints.
  19. I'm building my first spitfire, and while I'm done doing all the small parts, next up is painting the full airplane, wings and all in one color. Now I bought a semi-big brush (2cm wide), how do I get started? I'm afraid to destroy this beautiful aircraft. Any tips are welcome! It's the Revell 1/32 Spitfire MK.IV and I'm using Revell Aqua paints.
  20. Thanks for your answer, is Mr Surfacer the same as putty?
  21. Hi, I'm in the process of building my very first model. Now so far so good, only a few parts broken or lost. I'm wondering how I can fix this issue, there's some surplus of cement, and a visible seam line, any advice is welcome!
  22. I didn't even know there was such a thing as masking fluid. I'll have to google that
  23. I'm a beginner, and I have a clear part, on which the outer sides have to be painted black. Now I'm wondering how I can mask this circular bit of in the middle? Are there any known techniques for this? Thank you!
  24. Great! Thanks for the tip, I'll order some putty online first, nail polisher should be in the bathroom somewhere! Thankjs
