  1. Nobody does a Abbot SPG in a large-scale , I asked KFS kits about making one but was told by a nice gentleman there it's all about cost and how many people would want one , a model of a Abbot in 1/24 scale sounds good to me ...ah well back to the real thing I suppose.
  2. The models are fantastic , I wish I had the skill to do what you do . I take my hat off to you my friend. I've only made something something in 1/24 scale and that was the Tamyia Centurion tank , I had no problem getting the details right as we had two of them sitting on the GunPark .
  3. Hi Iain, One question where do you park these babies up in a hanger next to the house?
  4. Hi MMU, With BATUS on your doorstep you should have no problems with getting photos of Armoured vehicles , I spend 6 months there in 1988 many moons ago , tell me are the Medicine Hat Tigers still playing? Regards Niallmhor
  5. Thank you Gentlemen , seem I'm not alone been from Yorkshire ( Gods County)
  6. Hi Gents, I've just started a model of " old Ironsides " on the plans for the Gunwales they say it's painted Matt white but , what I've seen in pictures of her in Boston they are painted a kind of bottle green , I want to get it right from the word go . any suggestions will be grateful cheers
  7. Hi Carius, I must admit I have never seen this type of vehicle before, your model is a work of art. The only thing I've seen on these lines is a Falcon mounted on a Abbot chassis it never made it past the trials stage. It end up in the Vickers tank Factory in Newcastle moving completed Warrior turrets , the vehicle was painted yellow. As for the turret it maybe in a corner of the factory somewhere.
  8. Sounds about right Rogue 705, the amber flashing lights where mounted on the horns of the gun ( M107 SPG ) but, American AFV's went over the top with their Amber flashing lights.
  9. :The only picture that I've seen of the GT Conqueror on trial was it crossing a a Baily bridge. Your model is a work of art , the details are fantastic. If you ever get the chance there is a book called The Tank Factory by William Suttie: British Military Vehicle Development and The Chobham Establishment.
  10. You never no with the Russian military, they might just it after watching them put them on a tank transporter or not in case on YouTube.
  11. 5 Reverse gears and one forward no less ! Looks like the turret was based on a M109 .
  12. Targets WILL fall when hit , after carrying it for 6 months you did feel the weight or your arms have been numb!
  13. The Ferret was probably a Mk.1/2 with the low superstructure on the hull. Nice drive !
  14. Thanks for that Gents, maybe Takom just might take the hint and add more of the FV430 series to their range
  15. Hi all, Can anybody tell me beside AA, does any other manufacturers do a Abbot SPG ? Having worked on them in 70s I thought it would be nice to build one but at the price that AA charge I'm looking for a cheaper option

Hi, Scoobie the name sounds familiar

Sorry I've been away with work so not on line since Wednesday. Did you work with Hutch (Martin Hutchby)  he did some photography with 27? I was only with 27regt from 86 to 89 after which I went to Ireland before finishing off as an instructor with NITAT down at Lydd. We had a few ex-27 come through on the package with other units when I was at Lydd and a load of ex 23bty who came down as civ-pop. Happy days.

      Hi Wagtail,

I took over from Hutch ,when I returned from BATUS , besides doing the Photographer job I was the 27 Regt AFV recognition instructor as well as a DMI ,many strings to my bow.

I left 27 in Dortmund to spend my last 4 years in the Hebrides at RARH . I sometimes bump into Hutch now and again ( not if I can help it lol)

Now a days I look after two " Old Ladies "  after  their military service they need alot of TLC ( Abbot SPG & Stalwart HMLC Mk1) so I can't get away from them even when I've left the military.

      Best wishes Scoobie

  17. Hi Paul, welcome to the forum I'm a bit of a Star Trek nut but mainly maritime.
  18. Is Wolfgang still alive ? He always seem to know where we where even when we where under cam !
  19. So you must have met the "Legendary" Wolfgang with his blue Bratty van coming on to your location on Soltau Ranges then ? Happy days !
  20. Sorry, but it a M109A2 (G) , I used to be in 27 Field Regiment RA so I know that had M109A2 in Lippstadt, Germany in the mid 80s
  21. Hi , I had a look at the photos, it's a Chieftain with Stilbrew armour , also there is a FH70 155 mm Gun, FV432 Mk2/1, a Humber "Pig" , Foden "DROPS" system , Foden Recovery Vehicle and a Leyland Hippo Artillery Limber.
  22. Hi All, I've been making models since I was a kid, the first one was a Airfix Spitfire which every kid made when I was growing up. Then joined the Army for a number of years , been in a Artillery unit in Germany I started to build Models of the equipment I worked on ie: M107, M109A2, FH70, but no one made a model of a Abbot at the time so I'm still waiting for that . Now I'm retired I do a mix of Military, Maritime & Sci-Fi subjects and vehicles in a scale of 1/1 . Now living very close to a RAF Base on our doorstep can be interesting.
