  1. Morning everyone, Took a break over Christmas and worked on other stuff, does anyone's canopy offer still stand?
  2. I've made the mistake of using search "in this forum" instead of the whole page recently. Might be something to look out for if someone is making a new thread. Thread I started was already made in Chat for example.
  3. How come this is in chat and not rumourmonger? Is there too much speculation for it to go there? Anyway I've heard talk that we might get some ship stuff, recent social media posts would back that up but it's not really reliable as info We'll see. I'm just hoping we'd get some more 1:72 Been slowly transitioning to 1:48 though, so mainly hoping for a phantom right now... I wish helicopters would get some love, especially in 1:72 but I know the market isn't very big for it.
  4. I've made some progress since, started applying metallics and made the propeller Then I saw this... Oh dear Might have to put the project on hold Airfix quality control at its finest
  5. Sounds like a job for Michael Carvill! He made an incredible cutaway 1:72 shackleton! Check it out There's a lot more photos on Facebook
  6. Done quite a bit of progress don't worry the grey will be replaced with metals in time. I also need to paint some more wood and metal on other bits such as part of the tail. Plenty of work left but getting there...
  7. I did I have to do the wings differently though as mine are fabric whilst shortCummins' is all metal wing. So I'm not 100% sure if I did it correct was also using this technical drawing as reference
  8. How's this for fabric/metal areas? Painting isn't done I, just want to check I got the material distribution correct before moving on. (And yes, I ended up going with undoped fabric, thought the colours clashed less. I also liked how the effect looked on shortCummins' 1:48 kit)
  9. Found some good technical drawings from a previous thread by Troy
  10. I'm currently wondering where the fabric ends and the metal begins, difficult to tell from photographs. Interestingly it looks like the area behind the gun panel is also metal, you can see the rivets. That bit on the kit is fabric... Photos from IWM if I recall correctly. follow-up questions, were the flaps metal or fabric coated?
  11. Either works in my case, thanks for the answer. I'm not sure which I'd like to do, the red would be quite striking but the natural colour might be nice too...
  12. build has started! I have another question- what colour would the bare fabric on a hurri be? Is it the same colour as on a Wellington?
  13. I'm at university now but I'm not going to abandon this hobby so easily Decided to make a simpler kit so it doesn't take up much of my time I had an airfix 1:72 Hurricane Mk.I in my stash, I already made L1592 so I wanted to make something different. One of my friends made a "naked" Yak-3, where all the materials of the aircraft were exposed. I like this idea so I decided I will do something similar, a "naked" hawker hurricane (Mk.I so it has fabric wings too!) I tried doing some research with others on Britmodeller, yielded some interesting results. I decided I'm going to make it an unmarked airframe though, as I couldn't find a real example of one, should be an interesting project either way. Today I made the cockpit, also bare, without the interior paint. Used restoration photos for reference of what the inside looks like unpainted, this website was especially useful (not a Mk.I but still good enough for interior refs) http://109lair.hobbyvista.com/DETAILSITE/UK/hurricane/z2768/hurri_z2768.htm Pretty happy with it so far.
  14. Thanks for all the excellent help everyone! This has been quite a learning experience. I think I'll be making my hurri "fictional", in the sense that it won't have any markings. Purely a showcase of the materials of a hurricane, not a specific airframe. (as rob Lyttle said "that doesn't mean you can't build a model in the naked style and the Hurricane's multi media construction will make for a great looking subject." I'll definitely pursue making some with real markings in the future because you have all provided some great examples for me. Definitely got what I was looking for for now though. Onto the build! (Soon, hopefully...)
  15. I want to make an interesting model, are there any photos of hurricanes without paint? Specifically the Mk.1, I think it could be an interesting subject with the fabric. I tried looking for factory photos but I didn't really find much Maybe hurricanes were painted as they were built, I don't know. Any help would be appreciated.
  16. Lovely work as always, looks great next to the Cebu A320. The winglets/sharklets situation on the zvezda kit still trips me up, I thought they are all on the same sprue but evidently that isn't the case
  17. I am leaving my workbench for university! I will be studying Aero-mechanical engineering at the university of Strathclyde. These two models will be my last for a while... I actually started these years ago (B in 2020, D in 2021) but got bored of them, recently came back to them and fixed them up. Without further ado, here they are: P-51B 42-106750 and P-51D 44-15648 P-51B 106750 Historical photo from 1945 in Italy P-51D 44-15648 Historical photo of the aircraft from Italy during the second world war. Thanks for looking! I will definitely be staying active on the forums despite not making models, I do hope I can make something again soon.
  18. Redstaff has been kind enough to supply me with a spare clear sprue so work will be resuming!
  19. Thanks for all the help everyone, this was for a phantom I was building, it is done now.
  20. Made in 17 days, was a fun build. Thank you to the people in this thread that helped me get correct positions for flaps, airbrakes etc. Anyway, here it is: Here she is with my RN FG.1 And with my other RAF camo birds Thanks for looking!
  21. Work on this project is temporary paused until I can fix the damaged canopy or find a replacement. (It is glue fogged and scratched, it also has a hairline crack in it)
  22. thanks, do you know if the airbrakes also drooped with power off?
  23. I apologize After consulting some diagrams, I have learned that what I thought was an outer set of flaps are actually the "drooping ailerons", I'm still not sure on the positioning though... found another photo where the drooping aileron is down but the flap isn't. https://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/phantom/full/dux00215.jpg but then again... this website calls it a "flap" not an aileron so I'm puzzled yet again. Is this control surface multiple purpose?
  24. currently researching RAF phantoms (FG.1s especially), I am planning on making mine parked on the ground, everything off. From photos I've seen, sometimes the outer flap is down but the inner large flap is up, what's the deal? Am I seeing it wrong? References that support this: https://www.airfighters.com/photo/218927/L/UK-Air-Force/McDonnell-Douglas-F-4-Phantom-FG1-F-4K/XV573/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisengland/39574176992 https://media.abpic.co.uk/pictures/full_size_0539/1820838-large.jpg I also have a few other questions, such as the airbrakes - do they stay closed when everything is off? Thanks for any input people could give me on this.
