  1. Back in 1971 I was a Forward Observation Officer with a Royal Artillery battery in BAOR, N Bty, the Eagle Troop to be precise. My vehicle was a Centuron OP tank. I am aware that not all these were the same. For instance mine had a functioning gun, but my friend in the next battery had a “Quaker” with a dummy gun. I think it was a Mk12? I rather fancy making a model of c/s G22. What I am wondering is what kit to start from and how much modifications would be needed? i also had a Ferret scout car, but I am not sure what Mk.
  2. Thanks I've been using Vallejo "yellow desert" is there a commercial modelling paint that is a better match?
  3. Certainly looks like it! There can't be many radiator grills like that! Thank you
  4. I've looked at all my, rather limited, truck references and, although it looks very familiar, I can't ID this rather distinctive truck! Can some kind soul point me in the right direction? Please. Its in the Royal Jordanian Tank Museum.
  5. OK, please bear in mind this is my first AFV and my first model for over 50 years! This is as far as I've got, still some work to do, The front fender (UK bumper) supplied was twisted and broke when manipulated with boiling water so I have to work out how to build a new one from scratch. I also need to make up a pair of smoke dischargers (not in the kit). I've ordered an after-market MG and most as the kit one is awful. Then there's the matter of some weathering! Never even attempted that! Mind you I've just found this pic which shows that they also had problems with the bumper and replaced it with something much more simple. It also shows I need to move the sand channels, which allows simple stowage for water jerry cans
  6. Thanks Jack, for some reason I couldn't find your first response. I found it about two minutes ago, but too late to cancel the post! But just so this is not wasted. what is going on here. Its A Marmon Herringtom MkIV, but what's the gun? A 6pdr perhaps? Eddie
  7. Hi Guys I am really sorry, I know someone has answered this before, but I can't find the reply! Can someone please say what the armoured car on the extreme left of this picture is? The museum is the Jordanian Armour Museum.
  8. Well certainly the flap that turns back would be hull coloured with green seats. I haven’t decided if it will be open or closed. If it’s closed there isn’t much point in taking a lot of time over the invisible internal detail. Anyway silver it is elsewhere!
  9. Yes, I’ve done that. It’s OK now, but if I could find a metal one I’d use that. But where to look? Given there appears to be just the one kit on the market would anybody make one? Or is there a 2pdr AT gun let metal barrel?
  10. Resin and superglue is a bit of a leap into the dark for me! The gun barrel is now straight but on close examination has no trunnions. So I could have used the optional .5 Browning turret front but I don't think the Arab legion had that version. However as a retired Gunner I have manufactured a set of trunnions from a metal paper clip. Seems to all line up! More of a leap into the dark in that the kit contained two turret floors, one pale khaki and one pale green. neither seemed to have any way to attach them to the turret itself in order to form what I've always known as the turret basket. So a mega improvisation involving a bit of guesswork and three cocktail sticks. When they are painted they will be next to invisible.
  11. Can someone advise on the interior colours of a WW2/1948 AFV, in particular a Marmon Harrington MkIV armoured car? During my service 1970ish the inside of our FV432 were silver painted and any seating etc was olive green. Would that have been right for end of war AFVs?
  12. Thanks. Im going to do the 6pdr first and then revert to the 25pdr.
  13. OK so as a new chap to resin how do I straighten a wonky gun barrel? There will be lots of sill questions to come I suspect! I was really taken aback by the amount of waste in the bag of parts
  14. Well, it's finally here and rather expensive too. I have to say that I am somewhat worried that I may well have overreached myself. A very plain box containing Rather basic instruction sheet. Hull top and bottom halves A large bag of loose components. A smaller bag of turret bits in a bilious green A loose and apparently duplicate turret floor A bag of wheels An etched brass sheet. A short length of brass wire. There is a rather nice engine, but as I intend this to be an "in action"model This will never be visible.
  15. Ive just realised that my memory had failed me. The gun I am seeing is a 6pdr Anti-Tank Gun as used by the Arab Legion at Latrun where, in July 1948, two companies of the Legion's 4th Mech Bn fought off 2 Brigades of the Israeli army supported by 5 tanks. All five were destroyed by the Bn's lone 6 pdr sited on the roof of the Police Fort. This photo shows the gun after the action. The right hand shield extension appears to have taken a serous ding! In a better photo the inner shield can be seen to carry the ranges to prominent land marks Latrun, which controlled the access road to Jerusalem was held by the Legion until 1967. In a rather backhanded compliment the IDF established its Armour Museum and tankers memorial at Latrun. Rich do what looks like a nice kit in 1/35 so I am going to give that a go.
  16. Oh deal. 1/35 is what I was thinking of! Thanks all.
  17. I wonder if members can advise me which 25Pdr kit they consider is best? And are there any decent detailing sets? I want to do an example from the Arab Legion in the 1948 campaign. I don’t believe they used either Quads or limbers? I also quite fancy doing a 17Pdr from the same period. I’ve not sen a kit on the net?
  18. So it is! Thank you both. Any ideas on the others anybody?
  19. Ive been looking at the Jordanian Tank Museum site (http://rtm.jo/en-us/.) and this picture is exactly the period I am interested in. I see another MH MkIVbut can some kind soul tell me what the armoured car on the left is? I am also curious about the vehicle on the right mostly obscured by the carrier? And finally can anybody comment on the carrier, is identifiable as any particular version?
  20. Lots of very exotic bits and pieces lurking around that part of the world!
  21. There's also the Martyr's Museum which is also quite a sight. https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Martyrs-Memorial-and-Museum/1636936546584785
  22. Sadly Hornet has deleted its Arab heads. I looked though the entire current catalogue and I don't see any Arab faces, but I suppose its a matter of opinion. Thanks anyway Eddie
  23. Of course! Genius! Although the Arab legion were rather less scruffy than the SAS! In fact one of my needs is for a vehicle crew and there is a choice of them available!!! Thanks
  24. I hope I have now managed to work out how to post a picture. This shows the type of headdress I need. Interestingly it is actually a photo of two solders one of which is actually reworking the fringe on a newly issued Shamagh.
  25. After a bit of scratching around I found my way to the Jordanian Royal Tank Museum where there is a good picture of a MH MkIV. Not a lot of help in detailing but nice all the same.
