  1. Thanks for the responses guys! I do have a small glass fronted cabinet so I like the idea of a rotating cast of characters. Also glad it's not 'abnormal' to break down and move kits on after a time. I feel less guilty now! The show at Telford is actually on my list! And although it will be an assault on the sense, I really do want to go! Just to take it in. The Bolton show was not on my Radar so thank you very much for bringing that to my attention! As to Manchester United, I come from a long line of United fans, sadly I am the black sheep of the family with no interest in Football (Basically every sport except football). Appreciate it, if any of you are heading to Telford and fancy taking someone under their wing, drop me a PM! Cheers! Steven
  2. Good evening all, Apologies for the "clickbaity" title and the modelling related question in a non modelling section of the messageboard. I've been an on and off modeller for a very long time (Thankyou Grandad) and this has taken many turns over the years, such as wargaming, papercraft, scale modelling etc. I've recently moved to a working from home, staring at a screen all day type job so I'm looking to reengage with the modelling hobby to keep my hands busy and away from the screen. Specifically had my interest piqued by my local hobby craft stocking AFV models (never built one and want to take the splash). But the main thing I wanted to ask (minus my rambling) where are you placing/storing/displaying or what are you doing with your model kits once finished? I'm more into building than painting and they end up going in a box and eventually cleared out to a charity shop or the tip if I've made a mess. Would love to hear what people are doing so I can figure out what to do as I delve back in. Also, as a follow up, I am based in the North West of England (Manchester Specifically) and if any of you can recommend any upcoming model shows in this region, I would greatly appreciate it. Or please do recommend the big hitters as I would love to venture a bit further a field to take it in at a show. I look forward to hearing from you all and thanks for your time. Steven
  3. It honestly feels like forever since I last sat down at the bench to get some modelling done. Slow and steady progress on the Corsair this morning. Started with the wheel construction. Two pictures, first is all parts removed and cleaned. Second is the wheels built. https://flic.kr/p/2idNeTv Thanks for looking guys! Cheers, Steven
  4. Good Evening all. Got a little bit of progress this Saturday eve. Parts for the next stages of the build snipped and cleaned up below. First part of the build was the wheel and hook. Went together really smoothly, happy with the build of this. Once the wheel section was constructed, I grabbed the constructed pilot in his seat section to put together the body of the plane. Went together rather easily, could probably do with a little bit of filling and sanding before I begin painting. Onto the wings next, think I'm set on a wings up formation. Thanks for checking in guys and happy modelling. Steven
  5. Will definitely give the article a look. I need to make some painting purchases very soon. Appreciate your help! Thanks, Steven
  6. Great progress. Your patience and hand control for the camouflage has really impressed me. When I get round to purchasing some figures I think I'll have to get in touch for some hints, tips and tricks. Enjoy the rest of the project, I'm still watching. Steven
  7. A little bit of progress this morning on parts of the engine. I have to say there was a frustrating amount of cleaning up to do on the parts, but it does look pretty cool when it's all put together. First picture is the parts clipped, cleaned and ready for the build. Then a couple more of the constructed piece. Unfortunately it's the time of year where it's quite busy with family and friends so progress has been slow. Hopefully this ensures that I keep the parts well cleaned and the build is to a good standard. WIshing you all a happy new year tonight. Enjoy your celebrations. Cheers, Steven
  8. Did you do it all freehand? Or do you use masking tape to separate the two colours of the camo? Sorry for the questions, I'm not much of a painter so I need to learn the tricks. Cheers, Steven
  9. Glad to see someone building one of these as I nearly took the plunge this weekend on purchasing one. The kit looks brilliant, great job of the build. Did you use an air brush to do the camouflage? Cheers, Steven
  10. Thanks for this mate. Fingers crossed I can pull it all off when the time comes. I will definitely be using these photographs as a reference point. I must admit I'm still looking at doing the wings folded up so we shall see what happens. Another question I have for all the members out there. Can anyone recommend a starter paint set for painting up aircraft? I'm going to have to pop some paint onto them at somepoint. Thanks all, Steven
  11. I must admit I'm still to decide. I normally build straight wing but now the opportunity presents itself I might tackle folded for a change. Out of curiosity how should I rejig the build order if I opt for straight? I did chuckle as I was walking out of hovercraft. I was meant to buy paint supplies so I can finish these off properly but I guess I've put the painting off once again seeing as I consider my skills to be appalling and rather enjoy just building from the box.
  12. Looks like a fun build to me! I haven't heard of Rubicon Models before so I will definitely take a look. Best of luck with the build. Cheers, Steven
  13. Good evening and a Happy Christmas to all of the Brit Modeller members. Festivities, family commitments and work related nonsense have gotten in the way of any modelling that could take place over the last week or so. Funnily enough, the only hobby related item I've been able to crack on with is the purchasing of more models (I see how you all end up with stashes, mines grown by four this morning). Work on the Corsair has started this morning and out of the three models I'm definitely the most excited about this one. I've never built an aircraft in 1/32 scale before so I'm thoroughly enjoying it. The parts alone are good for me as I have to admit I'm not the most delicate of modellers, I struggle with fiddly parts. This should be a very relaxing build. Anyway, onto the photographs of what we've started with. Attached is a layout of all the parts fresh out of the box, not a million and one parts and everything is of a good size for me. I made my start with the cockpit which comes in four parts. All cleaned up and on display for you below. And you can see the assembled below. I was pretty confident when I cleaned him up that the pilot wouldn't slow together the best and I was right. But overall it's a nice clean looking cockpit. Onto the rest of the plane! Thanks for taking a peak guys. Happy holidays and happy modelling! Steven
  14. Really appreciate the photographs. I will certainly try my best. Thanks for the tip!
  15. Looks brilliant! I admire your patience with all that brass work, I think I shake to much for detail like that. I'm not normally one for looking at ships but this has certainly made me want to take the plunge! Cheers, Steven
  16. The interior of that M113 has literally blown me away. Bravo!
  17. I've been meaning to take the plunge of a dragon figure kit for a very long time. This is definitely going somewhere around the top. They look fantastic! Great job! That camouflage paint work is amazing, I am really impressed. I look forward to seeing the finished project, thanks for sharing! Steven
  18. This has been a really interesting read so far and I look forward to seeing the outcome. Your 3D modelling is very pleasing to look at and your attention to detail impressive. I've enjoyed seeing the development of your 3D sculpt alongside technical drawings and real life photographs. I wish I had the patience and the skills! Best of luck with the project, I'm following. Steven
  19. Aye, it was a bit of a pain, first Revell kit went together very smoothly. This one, not so much. Disappointing but I suppose if it only cost me £5 I'm not to grumble too much. I must admit I haven't thought of researching the builds properly I just crack on with what's in front of me. I got a little bit stuck on this one with it's awkwardness so it's definitely something I'll try to do on future builds. Rob, no mods for me I'm afraid but I'll try my best with what I have. I look forward to seeing your progress also! I am looking forward to build a model aircraft in this scale though as it's something I've never tackled before. The kit looks great, I've had the sprues out of the box a few times to have a good nosey at all the parts etc. In regards to Hobbycraft. It must of been the right day as you say. There was a small table in the middle of the modelling section of my local branch with these kits piled on. A couple of ships, couple of cars and a rocket all heavily reduced. There was probably four or five of each kit so I must of timed it to perfection.
  20. Day off means a lot more progress than usual. Body, wings and wheels all constructed and pieced together. I must admit, this model didn't seem to fit together as seamlessly as the first and will require some filling for sure. I can most definitely say I struggle to attach the wheels in a fashion which looks straight to me. If anyone has any pointers on firming up the attachment of wheels to model aircraft it would be really appreciated. Once it's all dry, cockpit attached and then onto the corsair! Cheers for looking guys, Steven
  21. Two holidays in rather quick succession (bad planning on my part) means next to know work has been done lately. However, I returned back from a trip to Malta this afternoon (truly superb, I highly recommend) and of course got plenty of inspiration to at least start attacking the spitfire. This was also helped by the fact that the January issue of Flypast happened to be a Malta special so it was a double whammy really. Cracked open the kit at the first chance I got after unpacking etc. As with the first kit, not a million and one parts so not looking like to complicated a build. However, again, all parts seem to be of a fair nice standard and rather clean looking. So onto the first order of business which was the controls and seating. Nothing mind blowing but all parts fitted together really cleanly and I am pleased to be back working away. Thanks for stopping in guys, I hope to have more progress soon. Steven
  22. An absolutely beautiful looking kit. Interesting subject topic to, I look forward to seeing the rest of this coming together. Cheers, Steven
  23. Adrian, wasn't familiar with them myself until I purchased these kits. Really nice to put together, basic but enjoyable. Perfect for my skill level. Appreciate your kind words, hopefully get some painting equipment around Christmas time so I can't attempt to do these aircraft justice. Back to the bench one day this week to begin working on the spitfire hopefully. Cheers, Steven
  24. Finished in the nick of time, really was an enjoyable build and all the parts (minus one wheel) when together really smoothly and they were really easy to clean up. I won't be back on the bench until Monday/Tuesday time so until then, happy modelling all! I'll start the spitfire next week. Thanks for looking all, Steven
  25. Progress, progress, progress. Spent the early evening snipping and cleaning up the wheels and all detail to the underside of the plane. Coming together nicely, once the wheels dry I'll finish of the propeller and the details to the top side of the aircraft and we have the finished product this evening before I go away tomorrow as planned. Thanks for looking guys, Steven
