  1. Thanks Graham & Mike. That's useful information on the undercarriage rake and I can see that the rake on the Airfix kit is way to far back. Having looked into it a bit further I believe the rake was adjusted for the spitfire as well so the Monforton drawings give me a good indication of what the angle should be. Still puzzled as to whether the Signal/Morse lamps should be present on the Seafire III or not. I think I'll have to pick a subject that does not show the top lamp and go from there and assume the bottom does not exist either
  2. HI Mike, Thanks for your comments. It's not a peg and collar arrangement but more of a T bar at the top of the leg and a couple of clips in the lower half of the wing that the T bar snaps into. Your suggestion would also work if I took some material off the rear of the T bar which would give the same effect.
  3. HI Graham, I'm somewhat committed now the wings are cut and I agree, there is a lot to do on the wing and pretty much all the panel lines and access panels have now been filled ready to be re-scribed. I've also flattened the u/c bulge in the upper half of the wing and there is still plenty of plastic to spare which goes to show how thick these mouldings are. The plan is to articulate the wing as well but whether that comes to fruition or not is yet to be seen. I've yet to address the rake of the undercarriage but as this is going to be fixed I'll probably scratch build new legs and mount them differently than Airfix intended. I bought the 1/24 CAD drawings and book by Paul H. Monforton which has been a huge help and I was quite surprised by the accuracy of the outline of the Airfix wing. It's just this question of the signalling lamps that's bothering me at the moment but I'm sure other things will pop up soon along with a few other hurdles to overcome such as the Radio, Windshield, Propeller etc.
  4. Hi folks I have a number of 1/24 spitfires stashed away and decided to convert one of these to a Seafire Mk.III. Going OK at the moment, Wings cut and cockpit detailing removed but I just have a quick question regarding the Seafire Mk.III - Did this aircraft have signalling lights, top & bottom? I've searched High & low for images of the Seafire Mk.III where I can clearly see the underside but not having much luck. When I look at the restored Seafire, PP972, it does not have these lamps, yet I see the upper lamp just behind the mast in some old images and the signalling box present in the cockpit. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Ian
  5. Excellent, looks like you hit the nail on the head here. Many thanks
  6. Thanks for your quick replies. I have seen the previous post about the same scheme and what an incredible job he made of it. Photography was never my strong point so, again, thanks for your input here. The Montex stencil kit also shows the colours as they think they should be.....Just wanted to make sure before I finish her off
  7. Hi Folks I'm currently finishing off an Airfix 1/24 Hurricane and I have decided to use this scheme and I have bought the stencils for this from Montex. My issue is with the colours of the roundel and fin in this photo. In my mind the darkest shade would be blue, followed by red and then yellow, so in this image reading from outer ring to inner would be red, yellow, white, blue which is absurd. Am I missing something? Any experts on lighting in old photos out there? Could this have been a 1940's prank? The same goes for the fin. It seems the red and blue have been reversed. The image in this link I believe is the same aircraft and the fin colour's are the correct way round. Hope you can help
