  1. Many thanks people for the nice words, much appreciated. Shame it took me two years-odd to get this thing finished! Ray, The decal are box stock from Revell, one of the three options they give.
  2. Certainly one of the smartest schemes ever to adorn the SLUF. Nice job Mike ......and it looks like your learning curve of switching to acrylics/preshading/wash is working in your favour.
  3. Good point Matt, its just the backing I had set up at the time., will re-shoot with a white backing methinks. Yep will bring it and the Skyray to Yeovilton show, I missed the Feb show so will definitely make the October one.
  4. Phinally Phinished the Phantom.... She'll be gracing the BM tables at Farnborough show tomorrow.
  5. I added a scratchbuilt periscope and rear view mirror to the canopy mid section. The periscope is simply a cocktail stick cut and shaped and the rear view mirror is scrap plasticard. You can also see on the desk in the foreground I am converting one of the sidewinders to an aquisition round for the outboard port twin rail as per refs. It just needs a flat coat and final touches and she'll be done. I will get it finished tomorrow as I am working a late shift today but have friday off and my boy is at nursery all day, so i'll have plenty of "me" time
  6. Thanks Rod, most useful, much appreciated.
  7. Thanks Adrian Makes my life easier then. I think I'll go with the droptanks as fixed, two dummy sparrows as you mentioned, any idea what colour dummy Sparrows are? and...err...what is an 'aquistion round'?
  8. Thanks guys and yes John, it'll be done for sat
  9. Many thanks for the positive comments and feedback guys. So, decals on, gear in and doors on, tail planes on, seats in. I now need to satin cote the whole lot and Mattcote the metal rear end. Also gonna add some sootiness around the back end and some general wear and weathering - not to much though. I don't wanna ruin all that lully blue paintwork. Next up is missile painting and decalling. Boring work but it needs to be done to finish her off. I have 4 x Sideys for the twinrails from the spares box, and the 4 x Sparrows from the kit too. The canopies will be in the open position. State of play today.....
  10. Whilst on thh subject of the Eduard 110, anyone know when the G-4 Nightfighter is released, must be soon?
  11. This one's been hanging around long enough Bill, I think I can live with the wheels. Don't need another excuse to keep this one hanging on any longer!. I broke out the Blue paint today . Its supposed to be roundel blue IIRC. Luckily the roundels on the decal sheet match exactly to Tamiya XF-8 , so it got a generous coat of that, followed by three coats of Klear in readiness for the decals later this evening. Is it me or does the blue scheme just look so right on the F4?
  12. Many thanks guys. Iknew there was a reason I bought some Gunze-Sangyo Barley Grey!!
  13. Been trawling through the archives on here, but I can't find any thing relevant.... What colour is the RAF Eurofighter painted? my instincts say Camouflage Grey, but I have a niggling doubt its Barley Grey. Sorry to go over this old ground again. TIA, Mi
  14. I found this in the loft whilst looking for something else, and i'd forgotten about it. Don't know why I never got it finished, its been at this stage for about two years I would guess. Its the Revell issue of the Hasegawa Phantom FGR.2 in 1/48 and is a cracker of a kit . Its almost ready for paint, so i'll get the canopies in place temporarily for painting and then get some primer on it to see if any seams need more work. I will be finishing it in the decals from the kit of the blue aircraft from 92sqn in 1991. Here are the seats and u/c ready to rock n roll, and you can also see how far I got with it, like I said, not sure why it stalled I will endeavour to get this done pretty sharpish to bring to the Farnborough show. So after a coat of Tamiya rattle can fine grey primer, I started with the exhaust area. I sprayed Alclad Aluminium over all the areas first, shaded with Dark Aluminium, Steel, Pale Burnt Metal and Jet Exhaust which was further toned with "Hot Metal" colours, Sepia, Red, Blue and a light dusting of Violet in the hot areas, all topped off with some Tamiya X-19 Smoke. I just need to decide whether a matt finish is suitable and if to add some soot as most references seem to show the metallic areas quite matt, especially around the afterburner cans. Your opinions would be appreciated.... and with the jet pipes and tail planes dryfitted....
  15. Ahhhh man this is gonna be good!!!!! Cracking work so far....
  16. Wow John, just wow! I hope you can make the Farnborough show with it, would sure like to see it for real. mike
  17. Very nice work. I bet that was a tricky masking task! Neat work on the painting. Nice and bright , especially good to see it in daylight/sunshine.
  18. What he said. Halfords can be a bit grainy and leave a orange peel rough effect if not handled well. Tamiya on the other hand is far more forgiving, just wish it came in a larger can!
  19. Looking at my (limited) references to german aircraft, I would go with silver/grey. Most Lufthansa commercial aircraft of that period had silver and black as the livery, eg: Ju52/3m, Junkers G38 and FW200. Though some later FW200's were painted RLM 65 undersides.
  20. Following on from this, does anyone know if you can use the Polished Aluminiumor Chrome over normal grey primer? what would happen? My thinking being that if I primer with Tamiya rattle can, mask of some areas and spray gloss black on the exposed areas, then take the masking off and spray the whole lot with polished aluminum, will it give a two tone effect with the gloss black painted panels/areas being shinier than the grey primered areas? TIA for any info! Mike
  21. I really can't think of any more superlatives with which to lavish on this one Jen....so.....
  22. Stop it with the updates Spence, I keep breaking my jaw everytime it hits the floor!!! Superb workmanship on every level, truly inspirational.
  23. Will do Paul, if thats the way I go. I have only ordered from them over the phone before and got fab service, only the once mind when I got their 48th Super Etendard 'pit. There's no rush for this one, I am just seeing whats what for the 48th Hawk. I'll probably wait till I see them at a show somewhere and pick it up there, cos I have heard bad reports about the mail order service too. cheers, Mike
