  1. Cheers Tim, I've done all the construction now!! The control surfaces have been attached and I think they look far better than before. The rudder was attached with stretched sprue and CA, not very strong but it seems to have worked. Rudder: Tail skid attached (and reshaped of course): After I have had a few hours sleep and done my final Geography exam I will be priming it hopefully. (To be honest I can't wait to get rid of the unsightly black patches!) Please reply with any comments, good or bad! Cheers Tim
  2. Cheers Tim , Got the undercarriage assembly on and filled and sanded. Thats all for today, and maybe tomorrow too, as I have a couple of exams Cheers Tim
  3. This build seems to be picking up speed, probably until I get to painting the wood by the looks of it! Got the tail on, minus the control surfaces obviously. All sanded down and is starting to look like a camel. Currently with control surfaces laid out: Tail assembly: See you soon! Cheers Tim
  4. Cheers Andy Made a small amount of progress today, Just sanding and filling the upper wing/strut joints. Was a bit of a pain due to the small amount of space available to work with, but a small chopped off bit of a sanding stick seemed to work. Small gaps were filled with CA, then sanded, then painted flat black to check the result, then repeated. The pics make it look rougher than it actually is: Seems fairly successful to me, with no hiccups at all! Next: attaching the tail Keep watching and thanks for the feedback! Cheers Tim
  5. I managed to squeeze in one of the bits I was fearing with this build: the attachment of the upper wing to the struts. The struts went into their respective holes fairly tidily, and when i placed it on its top wing there was no warping or bent bits. I measured the distance from the ground of the lower wing and they are both equal, meaning the dihedral must be equal! This left me immensely happy due to the horror stories I've read. There is only one downside: I now have four points of attachment that badly need filling and sanding due to the poor fit, but I can handle that (hopefully!!). Strut attachments filled and sanded: First look: Proof! Top wing level: Rear quarter: Joint to upper wing: Thanks for all the positive feedback people! Cheers Tim
  6. Cheers guys!! That Triplanes looking nice RAJ! Thanks, Tim
  7. Got a bit more done so far today. Added the struts: I used polystyrene cement to give me a bit of time to adjust them during the fitting. Using the top wing as a guide, I managed to fit them as they set. I'm glad they aren't modelled individually, as I would have certainly gone insane! I've heard many horror stories about struts and I'm glad of the ease of it (so far anyway) There are small gaps which can be filled by CA quite easily: The cabane(?) struts joints to the fuselage seem to be very inaccurate to ease the construction, I'll have to blend these in somehow. The pitot tube were moulded in pretty much a solid block, which I used a excessively sharp knife to cut it out of, spearing my finger in the process!! With a small plaster I continued the work: (My hand is there because the camera kept focusing on the fuselage) Thanks for all the support and kind words guys! Cheers Tim
  8. Cheers Dean, This was EXACTLY what I was looking for!! Thanks and very nice Fokker by the way Cheers Tim
  9. I'm advancing through my 1/48 Revell Camel, linky and now i'm stuck wondering how to paint the wooden bits + bobs Any ideas? Cheers Tim
  10. Cheers Andy, Unfortunately, most of the people my age seem to spend their time playing video games, I like modelling more because you actually have something at the end, rather than being a Level 71 orc thing online and being imprisoned in your room! Lately there have been a few modellers joining, I even managed to convert a Warhammer modeller to figures! So its not all bad! Cheers Tim
  11. Very nice mate! Lovely eyecatching scheme as well, I wish I could make mine as fast as you can lol Nice one Tim
  12. Bit more progress, have added telephone wire into all the control surfaces bar the rudder, its too thin for my drill bit. However I have made a small notch with a razor saw and I plan to used thin stretched sprue. The control surfaces will be attched after the struts and upper wing are attached, as they may get in the way. Sanded down the vickers mount: I've also added the lower wing, fit not great: Any questions or comments welcome Thanks for the warning Bex, so far the amounts I've used havent had any adverse effects on my Camel. I will be careful with it though. Cheers Tim
  13. That interiors looking very nice mate Looks pretty accurate from what I can remember from riding in one last July! No not from the floods! Experience flight from Lossiemouth with cadets I'll be following this build with interest mate Good luck Tim
  14. Sweet, I'll be watching this I've got the Airfix F3 in the stash, Good luck with the build! Cheers Tim
  15. Done a bit more but have been plagued by GCSE's recently, as well as the cosford airshow! Area behind the engine, some stretched sprue to add a bit of interest, along with some scribed lines (0% accuracy but I think it works!): With engine mounted: With cowling attached: View underneath the engine: Reattaching the control surfaces (using telephone wire): I used a hot pin to make a hole in each of the vickers' guns: Filler needed!: Thats it for now! Does anyone have any good *idiot proof* methods for painting wooden props? cheers Tim
  16. By the way, does anyone know of an idea to fix the control surfaces back on? They will need to be stable and fairly strong, so they dont fall off randomly. i was thinking about lengths of metal pins Any other ideas? Nice 72nd scale camel Nick, what did you use for the rigging? Cheers
  17. Let me introduce myself, I'm 16 and have been modelling for about ten years. I got back into it when no one else at my ATC sqn knew how to make a model, that was about 2 years ago now, although I didnt do very well that year I managed to win the competition last year with my 1/48 Spitfire IXe. My skills seem to have risen dramatically by reading over here and ARC and putting the techniques I've learnt into practice. Anyway, this years model has been set as the Revell Camel, so I will be giving this a go! I havent quite decided what specific aircraft I will be modelling, I will probably decide this when I get the decals, I'm thinking of one off the Eagle Strikes Camel Part 2 sheet. Moving on, the box and bits: Decals: Sprues and awful cotton for rigging (I have some smoke invisible thread i will hopefully be using for this): Solid plastic seat, I think it looks a lot more like wicker now: I used strips of old net curtains to achieve this: Cockpit was added to with stretched sprue and bits out of the spares box: Not 100% accurate, but I like it: Seatbelts were made from thin card painted a khaki colour, with stretched sprue as the buckles etc: Gaps filled with Revells own Plasto putty: Lookin smoother now: Engine painted matt black then drybrushed with silver: Added some rods evident of reference pics: First time using a razor saw: sorry for the quality of some of the pics, apparently its not idiot proof! Any comments good and bad appreciated:) cheers
